The community translation user group exists to discuss and facilitate translation of information resources such as:
- Second Life Knowledge Base
- Wiki
- Other relevant information
Note: Next meeting is Thurs, May 19th. |
Schedule

Also see the calendar of public user group meetings.
Agenda
Agenda for the next user group meeting is:
- Please, add below in the appropriate chapter your suggestions for future meetings.
Questions for Eli for the Thursday May 19th meeting
- GENERAL. Improving communication:
- There are many JIRAs without assignment and/or "awaiting review". We cannot know if any Linden has seen those JIRAs.
- We do not know why LL decided to fix some JIRAs (some non-urgent) and why LL dedided to pospone other (some urgent).
- P.S.: Is the private forum really an appropriate method of communication?
- GENERAL. Is there any way to translate the new strings of the Viewer before the public release version?
- Could some cooperation with Team Snowstorm and/or the open source developer community help here?
- GENERA. I (Irene Muni) don't know if this can help or if it's convenient: this is a IM I have received yesterday: "Hi Irene. I am one of the volunteer developers that works on viewer 2 as time permits. I see you are commenting on a lot of translation type jiras -- would you like to be able to fix those? I (or someone) could tell you what you need to do to get set up. In your case it would not be terribly complicated -- you'd need to be able to navigate around directories and issue a few commands. I have thought of a way you could fix those issues for everyone without having to be a programmer, but you would have to use a few commands and know how to move files around."
- SPANISH. How can we tell LL what JIRAs are specially urgent? (No, the "major" priority does not work.) The list of pending JIRAs is long (VWR-25534 and WEB-3819), but not always are the JIRAs selected for fix the really urgent ones.
- SPANISH. Is there a plan/schedule for translate the "Help" (F1) of the Viewer?
- SPANISH. The Quick Start Guide has without translation the images (WEB-3776) and some chapters (WEB-3818). There are another JIRAs about the Spanish translation of the web (WEB-3819), but those are urgents.
Suggestions about the meetings
- Volunteer(s) to take and post minutes of this meeting?
- Why Schedule says "Every other Thursday" if meetings happen on every Thursday?
Suggestions about the Knowledge Base
- While we expect Lithium solves the problem, what can we do to show links in the English article to translated articles (and vice versa)?
Note: For further information about the translation of the KB, see Community Platform KB Translation Project. |
Suggestions about the Viewer
- In my opinion (Irene Muni) it's very important translate the new strings of the Viewer BEFORE that Viewer is being launched in Beta. It can not be hard to find a working method to translate the new strings in Snowglobe or similar. And IT IS EASIER translate the new strings if LL says us what are that new strings and we don't need to wait the launch of the viewer and then open JIRAs for the translation.
Suggestions about specific languages
All languages
- I just would like to mention why we keep asking about the translation of the terms of service (no need to discuss).
- German (and I believe most of european) trade law requires companies doing business with germans (most europeans) to either NOT have a localized website or if the website is localized to have available the terms of service in the languages provided by the company's website. If any company infringes trade law the terms of service are null and void. With that in mind and knowing which fines companies had to pay for infringement of european law I really think it makes sense to keep asking about a translation before Linden Lab is being sued and bankrupt as the result. ( Torben 07:29, 31 March 2011 (PDT))
Spanish
- Spanish team needs more "Ready for translation" articles of the KB (see Community Platform KB Translation Project).
- Any news about the "deferred" from October 2010 JIRA requesting translate the Marketplace into Spanish?
Suggestions about the official Second Life CT Projects group
Note: To join this group, please see Community Translation Project. |
1. The members of the CT group have been updated (May 9). Maybe it's an opportunity to revisit this JIRA :)
Other Suggestions
- Is it necessary (and appropriate) the totally outdated wiki page of the Localization Portal about Top Translators in the Community Translation Project?
