Big Easy

Have you ever lost an in-world friend? As years pass in Second Life, more residents will have the sad experience of logging in to find that someone they know and love in-world has passed away in Real Life.

The Day of Remembrance is a new community event commemorating the life, spirit, and creativity of all the residents who have left us.

The event is organized around the New Orleans tradition of the Jazz Funeral. Rather than a sad, solemn affair, a New Orleans funeral celebrates life with music and parading. Our parade will depart from historic Jackson Square and crash joyously through the Big Easy sim four times-- so that Residents in all time zones can participate. We will have an interactive memorial garden and temple, and some great music on the main stage throughout the day.

Participate! This is a completely resident-created event. The Remembrance Team has a lot of activities and builds ready to go, but there are some holes we'd like to fill before the 17th. Check out the project needs below. If any of them speak to you, please join our team. All levels of participation are open!

International Greeters:

We would love to have a team of people prepared to come to the event during your daytime and evening hours to help orient people who speak your language.

Translators:

We need help translating our signage, and scripting notecard givers to explain the purpose of the event to speakers of all languages.

Everybody:

The rest of you mark you calendars for the 17th-- come by and join in the "second line" of the parade. Second liners spin parasols, twirl hankies, play various instruments and carry pictures of the dearly departed, all to a Jazzy beat. And we've got 24 hours of live music to share with you!
