If you have a boxed item, like an avatar, you'll have to unpack it to receive it.

To unpack the box,

(1) you need to drag it to the ground,

(2) right click on it and choose 'Open' from the pie menu,

(3) a window will open (It may take a minute or two if the box has a long list of items in it.)

(4) click on or if there is clothing in the box you can also wear it ().

(5) Once you've copied the items, you can find them in your inventory. Check your 'Recent Items' tab if you don't see it right away.
