SL维客一般遵从MediaWiki site's language policy on Help pages的想法和机制，相对于Wikipedia的语言版本。

创建页面

主要语言

英语是SL维客的主要语言。

选择英语是因为它是当今国际化交流中最通用的语言。但这并不给讲地方英语者以特权。所以，即使您很擅长英语，请假设读者的英语并不流利并且只能使用普通简单的词。

如果需要，您可以在英语句子中使用外语字词和短语。然而，请尽量避免使用拉丁语，希腊语或者法语。

页面标题

SL维客中的页面标题应该基于英语。

尽管MediaWiki足够支持非英语标题（也就是，可以使用任何Unicode字符），但SL维客将不使用此特性。

非英语内容

如果您想使用非英语语言创建页面，请考虑使用两种语言写之；一种是英语，另一种是您打算使用的非英语语言，使英语页为主要页面，而非英语页面是翻译页面。在此情况下，英语页不需要完整。仅需要一个简短的概述就可以了。

即使您不情愿或者非常缺乏足够的能力用英语写页面，还是建议您创建一个内容几乎为空的英语页面，只说一些像 "The content of this page is not available in English for the moment" 的语句, 并写您的非英语页作为翻译。

这样，其它的居民可以在不改变整个页面结构的情况下最终把您的内容翻译与英语。

页标题

翻译的内容写在它自己的页面中。

翻译页的标题应该是它对应的英语页的标题加上语言代码，并以斜杠(/)分隔。例如，Main Page的荷兰语翻译以Main Page/nl为标题，对于 Hoofdpagina 或者 Hoofdpagina/nl, 这里的 nl 荷兰语的语言代码。参见后面的语言代码获取可用的代码。

所有的语言代码需要小写。

语言模板

翻译的页面应该使用{{Multi-lang}} template作为标签。有一个或者多个翻译的英文页也应该如此。此模板{{Multi-lang}} 应该被放置在页顶部附近，并且相同的翻译页位置应该一致。

模板用法一致{{Multi-lang}}有助于读者找到他们想要语言版本页。

注意Template:Multi-lang 由于历史原因有另外一个可用的名字Template:Languages。

链接

如果您想要在非英文页链接另一个页，并且目标页具有同样语言的翻译页，您最好把它链接到翻译页。这样链接有一个翻译的锚点更好。

例如，您正在写法语页，并且想将某个链接指向标题为Voice的法语版本页，最好把链接写成[[Voice/fr|voix]]，或者[[Voice/fr]].

当然，这是上面指南在某程度上不够方便的方面，也就是说页标题总是基本英语的。(欢迎在 discussion上发表您的意见。)

如果目标页没有相同语言的翻译页，请将它链接到主（英语）页。

同步

尽管您作为一名翻译者，没有义务跟踪原始页的变化，但请您尽力使与英语页对应的翻译页内容同步。我们鼓励关注变化的任何成员更新翻译。
