- [15:04] Psi Merlin: Hey Maestro
- [15:04] Oskar Linden: alright. let's get this show on the road
- [15:04] Oskar Linden: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Server_Beta_User_Group
- [15:04] Gooden Uggla: lol now they can't sneak up on us
- [15:04] Oskar Linden: today the lab is having a hack-a-thon
- [15:05] Draconis Neurocam: i hope it goes well
- [15:05] Oskar Linden: lots of devs and qa are hammering on some new vwr build and automation stuff
- [15:05] Marigold Devin: ohgod I'm wearing loads of scripts
- [15:05] Oskar Linden: everyday is hack-a-thon for me
- [15:05] Oskar Linden: so I made it a dev-a-thon and pretended I was simon or monty and started touching server code
- [15:05] RedMokum Bravin: Hey, Oz tried to make it sound special!
- [15:05] Latif Khalifa: lol
- [15:06] Latif Khalifa: touching code is not for the uninitiated
- [15:06] Oskar Linden: :-)
- [15:06] RedMokum Bravin: Did the code survive?
- [15:06] Oskar Linden: ok ok latif
- [15:06] Jonathan Yap: Are we getting svc-1167 from you Oskar?
- [15:06] JIRA-helper: http//jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-1167:
- [#SVC-1167] Script function: to return objects
- [15:06] Master Starship: well as long as you only make it better
- [15:06] Oskar LindenOskar: Linden sets group limits back to 42 from 100
- [15:06] Master Starship: or change a varable from 40 to 42
- [15:06] Oskar Linden: let's talk about releases this week
- [15:07] Latif Khalifa: having more groups would've been fun... in 2008 :P
- [15:07] Ima Mechanique: providing you don't touch it in inappropriate ways and never ask the code to keep it a secret
- [15:07] Oskar Linden: the long awaited Display Name changes made it live on Tuesday
- [15:07] TankMaster Finesmith: what changed?
- [15:07] Oskar Linden: there were quite a few fixes and changes in there
- [15:07] RedMokum Bravin: Not seen ??? lately.
- [15:07] Oskar Linden: oh my link broke...
- [15:07] Oskar Linden: hmm
- [15:08] Oskar Linden: [1]
- [15:08] Oskar Linden: * Modify simulator top scripts report to include agent IDs instead of usernames.
- * Messages sent to estate by user with last name resident are seen as forged by simulator
- * llGetDisplayName failed intermittently
- * Offline group invite email contains Username only and contains Resident last name in body of message
- * llGetDisplayName returns nothing if the resident has not chosen a new name (shouldn't it return at least the legacy name, like the viewer is showing for their name?)
- * Last name resident shown in title of IM Conference Window with no Display name
- * metadata embedded in postcards: shows username="Firstname Lastname" instead of "firstname.lastname"
- * Confirm LSL functions tooltips have current valid descriptions
- [15:08] Oskar Linden: not sure if anyone has gotten the chance to notice if the DN code is working any better but it should be
- [15:08] Oskar Linden: I've not seen any major complaints
- [15:08] Oskar Linden: or if I did they were from a user using unpronounceable unicode
- [15:09] RedMokum Bravin: :-p
- [15:09] Latif Khalifa: i've turned it off, people abuse it making it difficult to read chat ;)
- [15:09] Coyot LindenCoyot: Linden has discovered that the DN code will not let him set his DN to ???
- [15:09] Oskar Linden: I know :-)
- [15:09] Gooden Uggla: do bans work now?
- [15:09] Oskar Linden: sure you can coyot. let me show you later ;-)
- [15:10] Coyot Linden: k
- [15:10] RedMokum Bravin: Oskar will teach you how to use upside-down question marks no doubt.
- [15:10] TankMaster Finesmith: set it on the backend server side :P
- [15:10] Oskar Linden: are you jumping topics gooden? :-)
- [15:10] Oskar Linden: I do everything on the backend
- [15:10] Gooden Uggla: oops, my bad
- [15:10] TankMaster Finesmith: lol
- [15:10] Oskar Linden: uhm
- [15:10] Oskar Linden: yeah
- [15:10] Oskar Linden: ok
- [15:10] Latif Khalifa: can you set display name to '; drop table users;
- [15:10] Oskar Linden: heh
- [15:10] Oskar Linden: little bobby drop tables
- [15:11] Opensource Obscure: ^^
- [15:11] TankMaster Finesmith: >,<
- [15:11] Oskar Linden: what would the internet be without obscure memes
- [15:11] Master Starship: error table users not found
- [15:11] Oskar Linden: it's like one big inside joek
- [15:11] TankMaster Finesmith: useing > will cause you to termonate yout XMPP session in group chat...
- [15:11] Latif Khalifa: [2]
- [15:12] Oskar Linden: I remember when I came back from a long motorcycle ride through australia where I had limited internet access for half a year and I didn't get any jokes
- [15:12] Latif Khalifa: lol
- [15:12] Oskar Linden: my friends were like talking in code I didn't know
- [15:12] Oskar Linden: it moves that fast
- [15:12] Oskar Linden: anyways
- [15:12] Oskar Linden: maint-server got merged witht he DN code
- [15:13] Oskar Linden: deployed to magnum and will get promoted next week
- [15:13] Oskar Linden: it's been a very patient little branch
- [15:13] Coyot Linden: promoted if all goes well
- [15:13] Latif Khalifa: whom do we bribe to get step 1 and 2 of mono upgrade fast throgh?
- [15:13] Latif Khalifa: maestro?
- [15:13] Oskar Linden: speaking of coyot we should convene in email Monday night to see if we should do the roll Tuesday morning since Monday is a holiday
- [15:14] Coyot Linden: Governor Lindeon
- [15:14] Oskar Linden: kelly
- [15:14] Oskar Linden: all moneys go to kelly
- [15:14] Jonathan Yap: LL holiday on MOnday?
- [15:14] Maestro Linden: actually step 1 is already in RC :)
- [15:14] Oskar Linden: yes
- [15:14] Oskar Linden: speaking of step 1
- [15:14] Latif Khalifa: kelly says his work is done, it's up to qa now hof fast it gets tehre
- [15:14] Coyot Linden: oskar - Lil and I to convo on that Friday night
- [15:14] Oskar Linden: LeTigre has mono2-aware
- [15:15] Oskar Linden: maestro can you give a rundown on mono2-aware?
- [15:15] Maestro Linden: sure,
- [15:15] Carbon Rod,: X-Flight: All Go
- [15:15] Maestro Linden: so mono2-aware only has minor performance improvements compared to previous server versions
- [15:15] Latif Khalifa: "don't crash when you see serialization of the real mono2 update"
- [15:15] Maestro Linden: but we have a 2nd branch, Mono2Performance, which dose have a lot of performance optimizations
- [15:16] Gooden Uggla: after 2+ years it's finally happening :)
- [15:16] Maestro Linden: mono2performance scripts will crash if they're rezzed in older servers
- [15:16] Maestro Linden: but mono2aware can deal wtih mono2performance scripts
- [15:16] Latif Khalifa: yeah mono2-aware is only crash proofing existing engine for the real update
- [15:17] Maestro Linden: so once mono2aware is out on all channels, we'll be able to try out mono2performance on certain channels
- [15:17] Oskar Linden: see! we made a plan
- [15:17] Oskar Linden: and thought ahead
- [15:17] Oskar Linden: aren't you proud?
- [15:17] Draconis Neurocam: very
- [15:17] Latif Khalifa: it's an exception that proves the rule :P
- [15:17] Gooden Uggla: you have no idea
- [15:17] Homeless: we're: proud!!
- [15:17] Jonathan Yap: Does that mean there will be another checkbox for LSL compiling types?
- [15:17] Draconis Neurocam: mono upgrades, msvc 2010 upgrades, xmpp, its crazy, things are actually getting done
- [15:18] Oskar Linden: so you'll hear more here abot when the next mono2 phase is ready
- [15:18] Maestro Linden: Jonathan: nope, it's still just LSL or Mono
- [15:18] Oskar Linden: things are moving so fast it's hard to keep track of it all
- [15:18] Master Starship: much better than the last one
- [15:18] Oskar Linden: even in the last 6 months
- [15:18] Jonathan Yap: So new compiles will be into Mono2
- [15:18] TankMaster Finesmith:
- [15:18] Oskar Linden: the idea that we basically ship 4 new versions of server code weekly kinda boggle the mind
- [15:18] Latif Khalifa: kcp ftw
- [15:19] Master Starship: and in parrall not seral
- [15:19] Gooden Uggla: has someone chained Kelly to his desk yet?
- [15:19] Oskar Linden: moving on, BlueSteel got some improvements to the IP management tools that had been crashing sims
- [15:19] Oskar Linden: they seem to be less crashy
- [15:19] Oskar Linden: probably let that sit for a couple more weeks
- [15:19] TankMaster Finesmith: less crashy is a good thing
- [15:19] Latif Khalifa: did you add "undo" button for when governene damages half of the grid by mitake?
- [15:20] Latif Khalifa: governence
- [15:20] Oskar Linden: I wish
- [15:20] Oskar Linden: a big old CONTROL-Z in our tools panel
- [15:20] Master Starship: why did they not jsut change the asset instead of removing it
- [15:20] Latif Khalifa: would be useful
- [15:20] Coyot Linden: assets are immutable
- [15:20] Oskar Linden: I don't know
- [15:21] Oskar Linden: it wasn't an intentional error
- [15:21] Oskar Linden: if that makes you feel better
- [15:21] Master Starship: then how dothey change them for IP items
- [15:21] Jonathan Yap: Is any error intentional? :)
- [15:21] Oskar Linden: the details on the IP management tools are a big secret
- [15:21] Gooden Uggla: they substitute a placeholder item for the object, the UUID is immutable
- [15:22] Oskar Linden: I didn't have any firstborns to offer so they won't tell me
- [15:22] Coyot Linden: The TCP management, not so much
- [15:22] Oskar Linden: some people believe that all our errors are intentional and part of some devious master plabn
- [15:22] Draconis Neurocam: the amount of uuids in sl has to be a better test for the standard than anyone ever thought of before
- [15:22] Oskar Linden: I only wish that were true
- [15:23] Oskar Linden: then there are others who will say that I can't talk about the master plan and this is just a diversion
- [15:23] Homeless: isn't: the plan to take over the world?
- [15:23] Oskar Linden: it gets deeper
- [15:23] Gooden Uggla: we don't believe that oskar, we believe the top floor just smokes too much weed
- [15:23] Latif Khalifa: "Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity" <- Heinlein's Razor
- [15:23] Coyot Linden: Bob would love you for that.
- [15:24] Oskar Linden: :-)
- [15:24] Homeless: and: turn everyone into bots?
- [15:24] Oskar Linden: we have open office floorplans so whatever anyone is smoking the rest get it too
- [15:24] Coyot Linden: No, that's more Asimov than Heinlein
- [15:24] Gooden Uggla: wow, someone referred to bob the prim?
- [15:24] Coyot Linden: No, Bob Heinlein
- [15:24] Marigold DevinMarigold: Devin mutters conspiracy theories, weed, bots grrr
- [15:24] Gooden Uggla: coyot is going to get huge love in comic form
- [15:25] Oskar Linden: Coyot is on nicknames basis with Mr Heinlein
- [15:25] Gooden Uggla: or not...
- [15:25] Oskar Linden: I call him Robby H
- [15:25] Latif Khalifa: lol
- [15:25] Oskar Linden: speaking of AWG conspiracy theories we are upgrading our blogs/forums
- [15:25] Oskar Linden: to a Lithuium offering
- [15:26] Oskar Linden: info here: [3]
- [15:26] Oskar Linden: there will be some downtime
- [15:26] Draconis Neurocam: anything has to be better than jive
- [15:26] Marigold Devin: Ohgod people are going to die without theh forums for 10 whole days !!!! have you read the reactions there already?
- [15:26] Gooden Uggla: not that it's admitting the lab made a mistake or anything...
- [15:26] Oskar Linden: the good news is that it will make next weeks release very very quiet in the forums
- [15:26] Homeless: Just: don't put Lithium in the water
- [15:26] Gooden Uggla: lol that would solve the problem of having bitchy users
- [15:26] Coyot Linden: You see, they aren't on weed - it's lithium
- [15:27] Flip Idlemind: Yes people with die without the forums. Where else will people talk to eachother? o.O
- [15:27] Latif Khalifa: It's not a AWG conspiracy theory, just constatation that LL has severe case of Facebook envy which is couterproductive to SL's success
- [15:27] Oskar Linden: I toyed with a few ideas of a replacement
- [15:27] Oskar Linden: I wanted a webcam pointing to my whiteboard
- [15:27] Gooden Uggla: oh?
- [15:27] Oskar Linden: where I would write updates
- [15:27] Gooden Uggla: that's a good idea, could be fun
- [15:27] Oskar Linden: you know what... I'm going to do that anyways
- [15:27] Gooden Uggla: ~^.^~"Hey, This promises to Be Fun!"~^.^~
- [15:27] Oskar Linden: I'll just upload pics
- [15:27] Draconis Neurocam: time lapse
- [15:28] Homeless: draw: plenty of cartoons
- [15:28] Oskar Linden: I will
- [15:28] Oskar Linden: this will be the link: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Server_Release_Status_Whiteboard
- [15:28] Draconis Neurocam: haha
- [15:29] Oskar Linden: pass that link around when people want to know what is going on with server
- [15:29] Oskar Linden: we've got some progress made on the XMPP front.
- [15:30] Oskar Linden: we've got some project vwr code talking to our XMPP servers here on ADITI
- [15:30] Oskar Linden: it's actually working
- [15:30] Oskar Linden: more info on that when project vwrs are publicly available
- [15:30] Oskar LindenOskar: Linden looks forward to new group chat bugs!
- [15:30] TankMaster FinesmithTankMaster: Finesmith is on the xmpp vwr
- [15:30] Oskar Linden: nice
- [15:30] Latif Khalifa: we found many already
- [15:30] Oskar Linden: :-)
- [15:31] TankMaster Finesmith: yeah, i found one bug alreadu
- [15:31] TankMaster Finesmith: > kills the chat session
- [15:31] Oskar Linden: let's give tank and latif a round of applause for finding early bugs
- [15:31] TankMaster Finesmith:
- [15:31] TankMaster Finesmith: gez knows of it now
- [15:31] Psi Merlin: Make a whiteboard here and put the link on it.
- [15:31] Ima Mechanique: I only found out how to crash myself out of the viewer :-(
- [15:31] Oskar Linden: now when it goes live if there are any issues with group chat poke them
- [15:32] Latif Khalifa: only for the bugs we didn't find ;)
- [15:32] Oskar Linden: when it comes to rollout we'll most likely have a time when new and old chat services are both available on the grid
- [15:32] Latif Khalifa: but it smells very alpha, i wouldn't expect xmpp chat to go live any time soon
- [15:32] Oskar Linden: so if you feel the need for laggy chat just fire up an old group chat
- [15:32] TankMaster Finesmith: or use 1.23
- [15:33] Latif Khalifa: xmpp chat is pretty laggy the way it's implemented
- [15:33] Homeless: the: lag adds a certain anticipation
- [15:33] Oskar Linden: good to know
- [15:33] Oskar Linden: 1
- [15:33] Oskar Linden: 2
- [15:33] Oskar Linden: 6
- [15:33] Oskar Linden: 5
- [15:33] Latif Khalifa: 5-10s freeze when a new participant logs in
- [15:33] TankMaster Finesmith: local doesnt use xmpp...
- [15:34] Oskar Linden: log is still working on the download queue enhancements in the asset server code
- [15:34] Oskar Linden: we had xan run some stats to figure out which regions had the longest download queues
- [15:34] Zindonas Loxingly: is that delay an issue with xmpp or a network issue?
- [15:34] Oskar Linden: then I contacted those sim owners and asked if they wanted to help by letting us use their sims on aditi with some new code
- [15:34] Oskar Linden: they were very excited :-D
- [15:35] TankMaster Finesmith:
- [15:35] Oskar Linden: we might doa pileon in those regions in the coming weeks
- [15:35] Jonathan Yap: loads of textures?
- [15:35] Oskar Linden: 3 of the top 10 were mainland regions
- [15:35] Oskar Linden: not textures
- [15:35] Motor Loon: what would cause it then?
- [15:35] Latif Khalifa: Zindonas, xmpp server calling a web service to check if you are allowed to join. It's done sync (everything freezes until web service responds). It needs to be rewriten in async mode.
- [15:35] Oskar Linden: sounds is an example
- [15:36] Log Linden: there's another bottleneck on textures
- [15:36] Log Linden: that's for a future project
- [15:36] Log Linden: this needed to happen first
- [15:36] Draconis Neurocam: i wonder if thats related to the issue where viewer 2 sends mediadataclientrequests like mad, and if the stats will change when they fix it
- [15:37] Oskar Linden: anything else new and upcoming maestro?
- [15:37] Maestro Linden: we're working on those recent attachment bugs
- [15:38] Oskar Linden: oh right
- [15:38] Maestro Linden: SVC-6766 / SVC-6769
- [15:38] JIRA-helper: http//jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-6766:
- [#SVC-6766] Since Feb: 8th Server Rollout to main simulator isn't reliably sending inventory item UUID for attachments
- [15:38] JIRA-helper: http//jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-6769:
- [#SVC-6769] Taking off: part or all of a clothing/attachment set and then wearing another item often causes the the removed item(s) to reapear
- [15:38] Oskar Linden: yeah I had those in any other business
- [15:38] Maestro Linden: hm let's see
- [15:38] Oskar Linden: nice long talk about those at andrews server usergroup
- [15:38] Maestro Linden: next week, we're planning to have another new RC
- [15:38] Bronson Blackadder: I seen this
- [15:38] Flip Idlemind: Ferrari?
- [15:38] Maestro Linden: to address cumulative lag that pops up on some regions which is related to derezzing objects
- [15:39] Oskar Linden: I wish. legal said I can't name an RC after Ferrari
- [15:39] Maestro Linden: I mean, another new server build on one of the existing RC channels :)
- [15:39] Flip Idlemind: Ah okie dokie
- [15:39] Homeless: you: could call it Homeless lol
- [15:39] Flip Idlemind: Would have been cool. 5 server versions a week :O
- [15:40] Oskar Linden: 5 server versions a week would be nuts
- [15:40] Oskar Linden: Coyot? how about it?
- [15:40] TankMaster Finesmith: ^
- [15:40] Oskar Linden: you up for tracking 5 diff branches per week?
- [15:40] Oskar Linden: you could handle it
- [15:40] Draconis Neurocam: would form a pentagram and then all the conspiracy theorists would go nuts
- [15:41] Oskar Linden: he's been doing server releases for like a whole week now
- [15:41] Marigold DevinMarigold: Devin cues Aerosmith Livin on the Edge
- [15:41] Oskar Linden: right now it's a pyramid
- [15:41] Oskar Linden: traingular based pyramid?
- [15:41] Maestro Linden: by the way Jonathan, you won't need to recompile Mono scripts in Mono2performance to make them run faster - they'll automatically run with the optimizations when they're rezzed
- [15:41] Oskar Linden: isn't that intimidating?
- [15:41] Jonathan Yap: sweet Maestro
- [15:41] Oskar Linden: that is cool
- [15:42] Bronson Blackadder: pyramids hmm yes Freemasons
- [15:42] Bronson Blackadder: the all seeing Linden and all that
- [15:42] Oskar Linden: with kelly's eye in the center
- [15:42] arton Rotaru: so we have to rerez all scripted objects to benefit from the update?
- [15:42] Coyot LindenCoyot: Linden is not committing to five RCs
- [15:43] Maestro Linden: nope
- [15:43] Gooden Uggla: the "all-scripted eye"
- [15:43] Maestro Linden: just rez them when you want to run them, no preliminary rez required
- [15:43] Oskar Linden: in my Interesting Stuff topic on the agenda I put some links to interviews with Rodvik Linden our new CEO
- [15:43] arton Rotaru: yeah, but with objects rezzed like houses
- [15:43] Oskar Linden: you guys might find those interesting
- [15:43] Oskar Linden: I've not watched them all
- [15:44] Lares Carter: i saw, thanks for the links, oskar
- [15:44] Master Starship: will it deoptimize any of our scripts?
- [15:45] Oskar Linden: I'm about done for topics. we can freeform the rest of this meeting
- [15:45] Maestro Linden: I don't think so
- [15:45] Oskar Linden: maestro will answer any and all personal questions
- [15:45] Latif Khalifa: don't read nwn one. hamlet is a pihhead
- [15:45] Draconis Neurocam: haha
- [15:45] Latif Khalifa: he wants to turn sl into 2.5D "tap to move there!" farmville clone
- [15:45] Homeless: I: have a visitor counter that is always running, would I have to reset it or re-rez it?
- [15:46] Oskar Linden: good question
- [15:46] Maestro Linden: no, you wouldn't have to re-rez it
- [15:46] Bronson Blackadder: tap to move there looked like crap on Blue Mars
- [15:46] arton Rotaru: ok, thats what I wanted to know
- [15:46] Master Starship: also does it optimize time or mem usage?
- [15:46] Homeless: just: leave it go and the update is automatic?
- [15:46] Maestro Linden: it would be all ready when the sim starts up in mono2performance
- [15:46] Jonathan Yap: It will get upgraded when the server is updated?
- [15:47] Latif Khalifa: bronson, hamlet is just pissd off blue mars failed, now he wants sl to fail too
- [15:47] Maestro Linden: hm, Kelly would be able to answer more detailed questions about the nature of the optimizations in mono2performance
- [15:47] Bronson Blackadder: who's hamlet?
- [15:47] Master Starship: best to email her?
- [15:47] Fancy Linden: Greeter: Gez Tester has arrived
- [15:47] Draconis Neurocam: i wonder how many copies of mvs 2010 they had to get for all the LL employees
- [15:47] Coyot Linden: hamlet on rye, hold the mayo
- [15:47] TankMaster FinesmithTankMaster: Finesmith waves to gez

- [15:48] Gez Tester: may log back in with my linden account in a sec here.
- [15:48] Latif Khalifa: hamlet is ex linden, self proclaimed "journalist". recently been working for blue mars. basically a pen for hire
- [15:49] Latif Khalifa: hey Gez
- [15:49] Gez Tester: howdy latif
- [15:49] RedMokum Bravin: How's the web portal doing in bringing in new residents?
- [15:49] RedMokum Bravin: (I wouldn't know who really watches over that.)
- [15:50] Flip Idlemind: So I've got something odd: Ya know that parallelogram-ish shape that mesh objects show up as if you're not on a mesh viewer?
- [15:50] Latif Khalifa: the pyramid
- [15:50] Latif Khalifa: orangle/yellow thing
- [15:51] Latif Khalifa: ah
- [15:51] Latif Khalifa: Flip, now I understand
- [15:51] Latif Khalifa: yeah
- [15:51] Motor Loon: what about it Flip?
- [15:51] Flip Idlemind: Idk if it's a server thing or a Phoenix thing (I'm on Phoenix) but if I go to Ahern (the sim to the north) most of the prims change to look like that
- [15:52] Bronson Blackadder: Freemasons I tell you
- [15:52] Oskar Linden: ahern is not on mesh code
- [15:52] Maestro Linden: the Ahern prims look normal to me from here
- [15:52] Bronson Blackadder: it's freemasons
- [15:52] Flip Idlemind: Including things attached to be, but it's only if I cross into Ahern
- [15:52] Latif Khalifa: to meetoo
- [15:52] Motor Loon: me too

- [15:54] Gooden Uggla: is it going to a channel anytime soon?
- [15:54] Jonathan Yap: Is that a pretty simple fix?
- [15:54] Motor Loon: oh yeah, thats an annoying one
- [15:54] Latif Khalifa: if it gets past 2 server releases it fails "was this broken in our last release" test, and never gets fixed after that ;)
- [15:55] Maestro Linden: there's a fix for the bug, Gooden
- [15:55] Gooden Uggla: excellent
- [15:55] Gooden Uggla: any plans to implement the fix?
- [15:55] Latif Khalifa: like inventory accepted notification
- [15:55] Motor LoonMotor: Loon grins
- [15:55] Oskar Linden: that's a sad reality sometimes latif

- [15:55] Fancy Linden: Greeter: Gez Linden has arrived

- [16:00] Gez Linden: I'm working on getting up a project for the xmpp viewer in the next day or so. hackathon is taking precedence currently, but we'll get something up there for you.
- [16:00] Maestro Linden: I found that I can trigger the "can't attach item twice" error message when I wear a bunch of attachmetns and login wtih my viewer bandwidth set to 100kbps
- [16:00] Master Starship: having them relog
- [16:00] Maestro Linden: but that didnt' actually show my attachments detached in inventory..
