- [13:08 SLT] Torley Linden: hello and welcome to our office hours!

- [13:11 SLT] Torley Linden: that's very nice of you Katt, i'm here with my Doc Team homies Katt & Jeremy and our office hours are focused on Documentation and what's related... today we have a new blog up!
- [13:11 SLT] WidgetHUD v1.1 (Mono): Torley Linden has pinged you.
- [13:11 SLT] David Ruby: Torley: I found you a gemstone... You have to steal it from "The Vault" at the Museum of Natural History in London to get it though: http://www.flickr.com/photos/henriksvendsen/3308573825/
- [13:11 SLT] Torley Linden: hmmm Tourma, do you have a screenshot? and yes, they are.
- [13:11 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: Yay!!~
- [13:11 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: no I didnt take one darn
- [13:11 SLT] Katt Wulluf jumps up and down on excitement
- [13:11 SLT] Katt Wulluf: torley!
- [13:12 SLT] Katt Wulluf: lol
- [13:12 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: I will try and do that when I see it again
- [13:12 SLT] Torley Linden: oh next time it comes up let me know, Tourma. darnit, sorry, when i thought of your description, that's what came to mind.
- [13:12 SLT] mark Tretiak: do they change fequently or is it a random pic torley?
- [13:12 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: LOL
- [13:12 SLT] Torley Linden: it's random from a selection, mark. there's sub-sets for times of day.
- [13:12 SLT] Torley Linden: Leeloo, this is a very oddly-named object. i'm not rezzing it until later.
- [13:12 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: It's similar but not the one, I don't think. I'll keep looking out fo r it
- [13:12 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: Okis---lots of fun
- [13:12 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: thanks
- [13:13 SLT] Torley Linden: in the future Tourma i'd simply like to have SLURLs on the login screen and a wider, dynamically-updated base of imagery to draw from (like all the Showcase shots).
- [13:13 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: Yes that would be great.
- [13:13 SLT] Torley Linden: TNT - Second Life Tips & Tricks blog, which we're responsible for, in case you missed the link earlier... https://blogs.secondlife.com/community/community/tnt
- [13:13 SLT] Torley Linden: We're quite excited. :)
- [13:13 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: mark, I hope you don't mind me sitting in your lap
- [13:13 SLT] David Ruby: Are anyone in the middle in the black sofa? I don't think everything's fully rezzed on my end...
- [13:13 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: LOl
- [13:14 SLT] Jeremy Linden: Indeed! We've been waiting for the new blogs for a long time. :-)
- [13:14 SLT] Torley Linden: Bio, are you like, an assassin?
- [13:14 SLT] Karenann Wirefly: its ok i moved
- [13:14 SLT] Marianne McCann hopes she isn't standing on anyone
- [13:14 SLT] Bio Swindlehurst: ssshhh ;-)
- [13:15 SLT] David Ruby: Hi Daniel
- [13:15 SLT] Marianne McCann: I couldn't find Magellan's new blog
- [13:15 SLT] Torley Linden: if you have any comments on our blog please feel free to share right there.
- [13:15 SLT] David Ruby: Cool avatar :P
- [13:15 SLT] Daniel Voyager: Hey David :D ty
- [13:15 SLT] Torley Linden: Magellan doesn't have a blog yet but ask Jack/Cyn about it... =) it's funny because i commented about a related thing, Mari.
- [13:15 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: I must say, nice kitty cat---all blogs should have a kitty
- [13:15 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: Comment? those are truly scary pics Torley lol
- [13:15 SLT] Kate Linden: I'd love some feedback on my post about your favorite Viewer features and related article feedback.
- [13:15 SLT] Marianne McCann: Oh?
- [13:15 SLT] Torley Linden: thanks, my kitten is fond of a foil ball. she plays with it incessantly.
- [13:15 SLT] Marianne McCann: An I will pester Jack. I jes did a long review of the infohubs f'r him
- [13:15 SLT] Niky Zenovka: VICTORY♪
- [13:15 SLT] Torley Linden: Tourma, better to inspire fear than bore! j/k
- [13:16 SLT] Marianne McCann: It's a lot to read so far. ONly read a couple of the entries in the blags so far
- [13:16 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: lol yeah
- [13:16 SLT] Leeloo Lyle mumbles friendly greetings hummuna hummmina
- [13:16 SLT] Daniel Voyager: Hey Opensource :)
- [13:16 SLT] David Ruby: Torley: Well, except for being a little short of entries, the blogs look awesome.
- [13:16 SLT] Torley Linden: David, hopefully we'll remedy that in time. :) glad you think so.
- [13:16 SLT] Torley Linden: if there are requests for specific topics of tips you'd like to see, tell us!
- [13:17 SLT] Karenann Wirefly: Ms. Kate linden, my I have a weblink, thank you
- [13:17 SLT] Karenann Wirefly: i will give you an honest critique
- [13:17 SLT] Kate Linden: Karenann https://blogs.secondlife.com/community/community/tnt/blog/2009/02/18/welcome-to-tnt
- [13:17 SLT] Karenann Wirefly: =-)
- [13:18 SLT] Manhattan Atlas: howdy
- [13:18 SLT] Kate Linden: Main blog link: https://blogs.secondlife.com/clearspace/index.jspa?showhomepage=true
- [13:18 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: Hi Manhattan
- [13:18 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: Torley, we'd like to see more tips on using the Advanced Menu
- [13:18 SLT] David Ruby: Torley: I don't know if it fits in, but some Build/Script (or maybe simply "Create") would be cool...
- [13:18 SLT] Torley Linden: heh heh Leeloo do we have a treat for you... coming up... :) any specific items or, in general?
- [13:19 SLT] Kate Linden: LeeLoo, I'm writing a top ten Advanced Menu features article and Torley has created the vidtuts to go with it.
- [13:19 SLT] Jeremy Linden: I've been considering the idea of running a recurring "LSL Tips & Tricks" column. Do you think that would go over well?
- [13:19 SLT] Torley Linden: David, it totally would work. as Jeremy said... scripting is on the table!
- [13:19 SLT] WidgetHUD v1.1 (Mono): Torley Linden has pinged you.
- [13:19 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: I'd like you to fly me to San Fran and train me in your office!~
- [13:19 SLT] David Ruby: Leeloo: Template:Weasel... Who's "we"? :P
- [13:19 SLT] David Ruby: Leeloo: Just kidding...
- [13:19 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: We is us.
- [13:19 SLT] Marianne McCann: Me too Leelo. Heck, I dun even need to be flown!
- [13:19 SLT] Marianne McCann giggles
- [13:20 SLT] David Ruby: Leeloo: I'm just a bit too much of a wikipedian, sorry :P I totally agree with you...
- [13:20 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: Yay!~
- [13:20 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: Just a specific question for anyone who can advise - is there any way I can stop my inventory from opening all it's folders at once after a search?
- [13:20 SLT] David Ruby is some 10 hours away from SF with plane...
- [13:20 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: I'm in Itay---got you beat
- [13:20 SLT] Marianne McCann: Tourma - hit close all folders after a search. Not too elegant, but it works
- [13:21 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: Tips on auctions would be nice---it's kinda herkey jerkey
- [13:21 SLT] Torley Linden: Tourma, also related depending on what you're going for, in Inventory window, File menu > Show Filters and uncheck "Always show folders".
- [13:21 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: yeah but it's more a problem of locating the searched item and keeping it found when I delete the search term
- [13:21 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: at that point all the folders open up
- [13:21 SLT] Marianne McCann: Ya, I hear ya Tourma. Drives me nutso too
- [13:21 SLT] Torley Linden: Tourma, oh, try clicking the item then deleting the search term? it should remain highlighted
- [13:22 SLT] Jeremy Linden: If you have the item highlighted in your inventory, it should stay in view when you clear your search bar.
- [13:22 SLT] Marianne McCann: It used to do that, Torley, but it's behavior has been less-than-stellar since, 1.25?
- [13:22 SLT] Jeremy Linden: ...despite all your folders expanding :-P
- [13:22 SLT] Kate Linden: Tourma, if you select the folder the item is in, then delete the search term, it stays highlighted although you have to scroll for it.
- [13:22 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: title red VERY Friendly Greetings!~
- [13:22 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: yeah it does but *hanggs head* because my inventory is so huge, it usually the searched item usuall disappears way down out of sight in my inventory
- [13:22 SLT] Kate Linden: You can also submit a feature request on our Issue Tracker.
- [13:22 SLT] Torley Linden: Mari, i've heard about inconsistent behavior for awhile... i'd like to see a reproduction for the newest problems. i haven't reliably made it happen.
- [13:23 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: I'd like to easily eliminate duplicates in my inventory
- [13:23 SLT] RC Landar: that would be nice...
- [13:23 SLT] Marianne McCann: Likewise. Lemme see what I can do (inbetween everything else!)
- [13:23 SLT] Torley Linden: i wish we had some equivalent of those disk management/file cleaner tools for SL inventories. :)
- [13:23 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: I agree!~
- [13:23 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: ok I think the filter idea helps, thank you
- [13:23 SLT] David Ruby NP: The Chongs
- [13:24 SLT] David Ruby: Oops, wrong command...
- [13:24 SLT] Jeremy Linden didn't know this office hour had a DJ :-)
- [13:24 SLT] Torley Linden: deleting dupes isn't automatic but for Landmarks, at least on World Map in the Landmarks field, it will show all your landmarks and any repeating ones. if you buy a lot of stuff from a particular creator who includes landmarks in their boxes, that's one of the biggest causes of dupe landmarks.
- [13:24 SLT] David Ruby: (iTunes remote control)
- [13:24 SLT] Jaymes Kjeller: Here's what I've been thinking about. There could be a KB article (or a wiki page) about the maximum footprints of buildings that can fit on parcels of a particular size. However, you have square parcels, retangular parcels, parcels in funny shapes...I would think anyone would get a headache half-way through.
- [13:24 SLT] Torley Linden: it's funny because my alternate last name is Chong IRL, ha
- [13:24 SLT] Kate Linden: Here is an article about Inventory Management tips: https://support.secondlife.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=4417&task=knowledge&questionID=3974
- [13:25 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: Thank you Kate - urg I think I am past saving lol
- [13:25 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: Torley, don't confuse us with RL stuff--LOL---
- [13:25 SLT] David Ruby: Torley: Well, the song is made by you, so might not be too much of a coincidence :P
- [13:25 SLT] Marianne McCann: Me too Tourma. Nearly 40k items an no idea what to do with half of 'em
- [13:25 SLT] Torley Linden: :O which one is that, David?
- [13:25 SLT] Manhattan Atlas: I have a question for Torley.... does it require a specific version of the viewer to run your windlight settings?
- [13:25 SLT] Marianne McCann snickers
- [13:25 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: I'd like to find items that CREATE LAG----like when building and scripting
- [13:25 SLT] David Ruby: Torley Linden: "The Chongs" from the final selection...
- [13:26 SLT] Torley Linden: Manhattan, no. they've worked since 1.19.1 and newer. :)
- [13:26 SLT] Manhattan Atlas: ok
- [13:26 SLT] Torley Linden: so if you have the current main viewer they'll be fine.
- [13:26 SLT] Torley Linden: ahhh yes David, cool.
- [13:26 SLT] Manhattan Atlas: cant get them to appear in the editor for some reason
- [13:26 SLT] David Ruby: Torley: It sounds kinda harpsichordish if I'm not mistaken...
- [13:26 SLT] Torley Linden: Manhattan, are you on Mac or Windows? XP or Vista? if you place them alongside all the preset WindLight settings, they should appear fine.
- [13:26 SLT] Manhattan Atlas: windows
- [13:26 SLT] Manhattan Atlas: vista
- [13:27 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: urg Vista
- [13:27 SLT] Manhattan Atlas: ok
- [13:27 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: I share you pain
- [13:27 SLT] Jeremy Linden: Leeloo, I know several of our developers who are really into trying to help Residents build and script more efficiently. They hope to one day introduce some way to show metrics for objects, similar to Avatar Rendering Cost.
- [13:27 SLT] Manhattan Atlas: will try it again
- [13:27 SLT] Manhattan Atlas: tnx
- [13:27 SLT] Kate Linden: Torley has a great vidtut about finding texture sizes on objects inworld. Large textures cause lag so this might help https://support.secondlife.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=4417&task=knowledge&questionID=4850
- [13:27 SLT] Bio Swindlehurst: where are the windlight settings?
- [13:27 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: Rendering cost for items
- [13:27 SLT] Torley Linden: i wish it were easier to navigate to those folders. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Windlight#Torley.27s_WindLight_settings <-- is where they are
- [13:27 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: Prim rendering cost
- [13:28 SLT] Marianne McCann: I'd like to see more people used the *default textures in the library. Get rid of all those "totally clears" an stuff.
- [13:28 SLT] Bio Swindlehurst: sweet :D
- [13:28 SLT] Aard Andel: Can anyone tell me why i no longer get a white box with the name when I run my cursor over an avi? (in addition to the overhead name)
- [13:28 SLT] Torley Linden: more people should use *Default Transparent Texture instead of uploading their own.
- [13:28 SLT] Jeremy Linden: I wonder if "building efficiency" might make a good recurring column on our blog?
- [13:28 SLT] Torley Linden: Aard, probably View menu > Hover Tips and check those on.
- [13:28 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: I think so, Jeremy
- [13:28 SLT] WidgetHUD v1.1 (Mono): Leeloo Lyle has pinged you.
- [13:28 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: I'd read it
- [13:28 SLT] Jaymes Kjeller: Dang, Torley beat me to it!
- [13:29 SLT] Aard Andel: thanks torley, that did it\
- [13:29 SLT] Marianne McCann: I love 'em, Torley. I used *Default transparent whenever nowadays, and tossed out a stack of other people's alpha textures
- [13:29 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: How can I stop my inventory from coming up onscreen when I login?
- [13:29 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: Don't log in
- [13:29 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: LOL
- [13:29 SLT] Garrett Ceriano: One of my friends did something to remove their last name from their overhead tag, how is that done?
- [13:29 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: LOL
- [13:29 SLT] Jaymes Kjeller: I wonder why that would be? Is it because of caching or something like that?
- [13:29 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: J/K Tourmie
- [13:30 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: I'd redownload the program
- [13:30 SLT] Jaymes Kjeller: (Regarding using the *Default transparent)
- [13:30 SLT] Kate Linden: Jon!
- [13:30 SLT] Tourmaline Falken wonders why people have started to call her Tourmie ;)
- [13:30 SLT] Jeremy Linden: It should not be possible to remove your last name from your nametag...
- [13:30 SLT] Jon Linden: greetings!
- [13:30 SLT] Garrett Ceriano: Well, I've seen people do it on purpose
- [13:30 SLT] Jeremy Linden: Hi Jon!
- [13:30 SLT] Jenneh Adamski: Yes I have as well
- [13:30 SLT] Jeremy Linden: Garrett, do you have a screenshot, by any chance?
- [13:30 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: ooh Jon - the antioxidant Linden
- [13:31 SLT] Jeremy Linden: Or Jenneh?
- [13:31 SLT] Garrett Ceriano: No, I do not :(
- [13:31 SLT] Katt Wulluf: Friendly greetings Jon!
- [13:31 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: :D
- [13:31 SLT] Marianne McCann: Ya, I believe that some of the third-party viewers allow such things with group tages and names. Not nuttin' supported, though
- [13:31 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: Friendly Greetings~!~
- [13:31 SLT] Bio Swindlehurst: is there a fix due with the having to turn off the palletized textures if using a nvidia card
- [13:31 SLT] Torley Linden: friendly greetings indeed. ^_^
- [13:31 SLT] Jenneh Adamski: Me neither :(
- [13:31 SLT] Jeremy Linden: I know we're working on it, Bio. I suffer that bug, too :-)
- [13:31 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: I'm glad I'm not the only one jiggling anymore
- [13:32 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: Did I get a (serious!) answer to my question about inventory popping open on login?
- [13:32 SLT] Marianne McCann: Yer looking especially firm today, Jon. Set up well overnight?
- [13:32 SLT] Katt Wulluf looks at Jon and she's suddenly hungry
- [13:32 SLT] Jon Linden: a little time in the fridge is all i needed
- [13:32 SLT] Bio Swindlehurst: which card?
- [13:32 SLT] Jeremy Linden: Tourma, which version of the viewer are you using?
- [13:32 SLT] Kate Linden: Tourma, are you asking about the inventory window itself?
- [13:32 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: I don't know anything, Tourmaline, but I'd reload the program
- [13:32 SLT] Jeremy Linden: Bio, I run an 8600GT.
- [13:32 SLT] David Ruby: Lol Jon
- [13:32 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: 1.21.6 Jeremny
- [13:32 SLT] Bio Swindlehurst: bit less than mine then lol
- [13:32 SLT] Jaymes Kjeller: I'm using a third-party viewer. I didn't really want to, but people would say I've never tried them before saying anything about them. So...yeah.
- [13:32 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: Yes Kate
- [13:33 SLT] David Ruby loves his iPod Touch...
- [13:33 SLT] Garrett Ceriano: I thought 600 models don't work with SL
- [13:33 SLT] Garrett Ceriano: hmm
- [13:33 SLT] Marianne McCann: Tourma. Do you get a lot of objects sent to you offline? Do you have "always show newly acceoted objects in inventory" checked under Preferences > Popups?
- [13:33 SLT] Marianne McCann: accepted*
- [13:33 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: Yes, does it happen EVERY time?
- [13:34 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: Yes Marianne thanks - I have unchecked that
- [13:34 SLT] Marianne McCann: You're welcome! :-)
- [13:34 SLT] Marianne McCann: Hope it helps
- [13:34 SLT] Kate Linden: <3 Marianne FTW
- [13:34 SLT] Marianne McCann giggles
- [13:34 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: lol
- [13:34 SLT] Torley Linden: Garrett, depends on the whole model number. NVIDIA's *600 and up are usually mid-high end. the number in front indicates generation, altho they've done a very confusing thing with their 10th gen (the 2xx series).
- [13:35 SLT] Torley Linden: System Requirements are here, which need updating. but they do list the 8600. http://secondlife.com/support/sysreqs.php
- [13:35 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: Did I mention that we'd like object rendering cost?
- [13:35 SLT] Katt Wulluf: lol
- [13:35 SLT] Bio Swindlehurst: yeah mines a gtx260 core 216 lol so thats more confusing lol
- [13:35 SLT] Jeremy Linden: Heh. I heard, Leeloo. And I said some of our devs want it too.
- [13:35 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: Yay!!~
- [13:35 SLT] Jaymes Kjeller: I have a 8600 GT, I think, but I haven't encountered any issues with the textures, at least in the RC and one third-party viewer.
- [13:35 SLT] Garrett Ceriano: Oh, ok, well one of my friends was saying 600 models are not compatable, but was talking about 9600
- [13:36 SLT] Opensource Obscure: re : object rendering cost - we still can wear the object and see how much ARC changes
- [13:36 SLT] Torley Linden: if he's referring to an ATI Radeon, Garrett, then that is a different numbering system and brand altogether.
- [13:36 SLT] Bio Swindlehurst: hi colton
- [13:36 SLT] Colton Linden: Hi :)
- [13:36 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: Hi Colton
- [13:36 SLT] Niky Zenovka: Talking about inventory... not sure if I could ask this... with respect snapshots..
- [13:36 SLT] David Ruby goes to JIRA to look for linux bugs as I am one of the few I know running Linux :P
- [13:36 SLT] Marianne McCann: Hey Colton!
- [13:37 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: Well---I build so I have some pretty big pieces----but I'll try it
- [13:37 SLT] Torley Linden: please do ask, Niky! indulge your curiosities!
- [13:37 SLT] Torley Linden: friendly greetings Colton!
- [13:37 SLT] Niky Zenovka: Is there a way of bulk download the snapshots same as bulk upload? I would love to clean my inventory, that is 21K+ already of items.
- [13:38 SLT] Garrett Ceriano: Oh, ANother question I have is about the Windlight settings...how do I install the download, I've tried and it didn't work, lol.
- [13:38 SLT] Marianne McCann: Thanks f'r addin http://www.sluniverse.com/pics/AlbumView.aspx?id=834 to the list of Linden piccies, Torley
- [13:38 SLT] David Ruby: Does anyone know when the AutoUpdater is planned for Linux?
- [13:38 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: Ohhhh good one, Niky
- [13:38 SLT] Karenann Wirefly: ☆*¨¨*:•Kate!!!•:*¨¨*☆
- [13:38 SLT] Karenann Wirefly: chuckles
- [13:38 SLT] Jon Linden: bulk download of just snapshots from inventory? hmm
- [13:38 SLT] Torley Linden: not an easy way i know of, Niky. you could use an external macro program to automate some of the keystrokes, but aside from that, it's pretty much save one at a time as TGA to disk... then use a batch converter (if you want) to change them to a more Net-friendly format like JPG or PNG.
- [13:38 SLT] Katt Wulluf: textures in general
- [13:39 SLT] Bio Swindlehurst: wouldnt it be easier to save to disk in the first place?
- [13:39 SLT] Jeremy Linden: In order to download textures, you generally need to have the individual texture's window open and active.
- [13:39 SLT] Niky Zenovka: I know... I learnt that now... in the past I used to save in SL...
- [13:39 SLT] Torley Linden: Garrett, did you see the instructions on the page i linked earlier? basically just put the .xml files in the right folder and restart SL. (they won't show if SL is already running.)
- [13:39 SLT] David Ruby: Jeremy: Making a "Download" button would be awesome...
- [13:39 SLT] WidgetHUD v1.1 (Mono): David Ruby has pinged you.
- [13:39 SLT] Torley Linden: you're very welcome, Mari. thanks for all those great snapshots.
- [13:39 SLT] Torley Linden: i wonder if someone's open source viewer has a batch download for textures.
- [13:39 SLT] Garrett Ceriano: oh, ok
- [13:39 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: Is there a way to save preferences of PERMS for the items that we make?
- [13:40 SLT] Bio Swindlehurst: none in the cool viewer
- [13:40 SLT] Torley Linden: Bio, it would. and it'd be higher-quality too, likely. but in case that wasn't the original circumstances...
- [13:40 SLT] Jeremy Linden: It sure would! If you have ideas that you think would add a lot of value to something in the viewer, I would encourage you to send them to us as feature requests on our Public Issue Tracker: http://jira.secondlife.com
- [13:40 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: thanks Jeremy!~
- [13:40 SLT] WidgetHUD v1.1 (Mono): Leeloo Lyle has pinged you.
- [13:40 SLT] Garrett Ceriano: About the bulk download of textures, I saw a thing on xstreet that manages your inventory outside of teh viewer and backs it up? how is that possible?
- [13:41 SLT] Jon Linden: that's a good question
- [13:41 SLT] Jaymes Kjeller: You mean Second Inventory, Garrett?
- [13:41 SLT] Garrett Ceriano: I think so
- [13:41 SLT] Bio Swindlehurst: doesn't that only work on stuff that has full mods?
- [13:41 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: I heard about that today - sounds a great idea, but pricvey?
- [13:41 SLT] Becky Pippen: You're probably thinking of Second Inventory, but it doesn't save textures, does it?
- [13:41 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: omg typos pricey
- [13:41 SLT] Jeremy Linden: I would guess that such a system uses a third-party viewer (at the least), which is something we can't even begin to cover here :-/
- [13:42 SLT] David Ruby: Garrett: I think it connects using OpenMetaverse or something similar and downloads the raw stuff... Not sure though...
- [13:42 SLT] Leeloo Lyle batts her eyelashes and rolls her eyes
- [13:42 SLT] Torley Linden: Leeloo, at least you didn't roll your eyelashes and bat your eyes.
- [13:43 SLT] Marianne McCann: Thatd hurt
- [13:43 SLT] Katt Wulluf: lol
- [13:43 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: LOL
- [13:43 SLT] Niky Zenovka: Jeremy Linden* lmao *Jeremy Linden
- [13:43 SLT] Marianne McCann: Trust me, I know
- [13:43 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: ow
- [13:43 SLT] Marianne McCann grins
- [13:43 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: Did I mention we'd like rendering costs for objects?
- [13:43 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: LOL
- [13:43 SLT] Jon Linden: ha
- [13:43 SLT] Jon Linden: has everyone had a chance to check out the new blogs today?
- [13:43 SLT] Jon Linden: (did we already discuss this before i arrived?)
- [13:43 SLT] Marianne McCann: A little bit, Jon
- [13:43 SLT] Marianne McCann: (yes))
- [13:44 SLT] Jon Linden: ah, the perils of overlapping meetings
- [13:44 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: I'd like to be able to set preferences for what we build---as in PERMs---I build a lot and there is a lot of checking of PERMs
- [13:44 SLT] Daniel Voyager: Suggestion for the new SL Blog. There needs to be monthly archives section and categories section...:)
- [13:45 SLT] Jon Linden: i'm sure there'll be good archiving, daniel
- [13:45 SLT] Bio Swindlehurst: and a section all about me :P
- [13:45 SLT] Garrett Ceriano: is it still possible to make megaprims inworld? I keep wondering how the freebie ones were created...
- [13:45 SLT] Daniel Voyager: lol
- [13:45 SLT] David Ruby: Garrett: Those are already created and just rerezzed...
- [13:45 SLT] Jeremy Linden: Leeloo, I'm going to be archiving this chatlog... no need to repeat yourself unless you think we missed an important conversation point.
- [13:45 SLT] Torley Linden: there is a "Bulk change object contents permissions" featurette being worked on.
- [13:45 SLT] David Ruby: Garret: If you try to resize them, the server catches it and resizes it back to <=10meters
- [13:46 SLT] Jaymes Kjeller: Garrett, those were made when a loophole was discovered, and since then, there's been good uses and bad uses, just like everything else.
- [13:46 SLT] Katt Wulluf: Can I say hello to my mom then?
- [13:46 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: Part of it is for entertainment benefit---we don't want to be drones =-)
- [13:46 SLT] Torley Linden: also re: megaprims, an unofficial history... http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Megaprim :)
- [13:46 SLT] Garrett Ceriano: yes, this I know, but why? How do you create them the size they are in the first place?
- [13:46 SLT] David Ruby made a Download button JIRA: VWR-12196: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-12196
- [13:46 SLT] Garrett Ceriano: ok, i'll read that
- [13:46 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: Friendly greetings, Pax
- [13:46 SLT] Pax Plutonian: Heelo.
- [13:46 SLT] Pax Plutonian: Hello
- [13:47 SLT] Torley Linden: friendly greetings Pax!
- [13:47 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: Hello Pax
- [13:47 SLT] Marianne McCann: Hey-lo!
- [13:47 SLT] Pax Plutonian: Neat place, thanx for the welcome.
- [13:47 SLT] David Ruby: :S My client nearly crashed there...
- [13:48 SLT] Katt Wulluf whistles
- [13:48 SLT] Jeremy Linden: Megaprims exist now because of an exploited bug a long time ago. There's no "official" way to create them, but they do have useful applications so we've been looking the other way until we can come up with an official solution.
- [13:48 SLT] David Ruby: :P
- [13:48 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: Jeremy, do they really create lag?
- [13:48 SLT] WidgetHUD v1.1 (Mono): Leeloo Lyle has pinged you.
- [13:49 SLT] Niky Zenovka: brb
- [13:49 SLT] Kate Linden: new article today, with info about logging into the new blog: https://support.secondlife.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=4417&task=knowledge&questionID=3932
- [13:49 SLT] Bio Swindlehurst: a 256x256x256 sphere to re-create the death star :D
- [13:49 SLT] David Ruby: Bio: :P
- [13:49 SLT] Jeremy Linden: They do unexpected things to our physics and rendering engines because we didn't design Second Life to handle such large objects.
- [13:49 SLT] Kate Linden: LeeLo I had an office hour where we tested mega prim
- [13:49 SLT] Kate Linden: and found that the lag existed client side
- [13:50 SLT] David Ruby: Jeremy: It basically wreaks havoc on Havok?
- [13:50 SLT] WidgetHUD v1.1 (Mono): David Ruby has pinged you.
- [13:50 SLT] Kate Linden: unless they collided
- [13:50 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: and what if they are phantom?
- [13:50 SLT] Jeremy Linden: I'm not really qualified to speak on the details, David. At least not for Havok 4 :-)
- [13:50 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: and transparent---for that matter?
- [13:50 SLT] Jon Linden: note to anyone using jira.secondlife.com -- it might do you good to search around on it first, to see if the feature you're asking for has already been requested (and perhaps voted for)
- [13:50 SLT] David Ruby: Jeremy: Neither am I, so it's not too important :P
- [13:50 SLT] WidgetHUD v1.1 (Mono): David Ruby has pinged you.
- [13:51 SLT] Garrett Ceriano: Oh oh oh, That reminds me, does anyone know if and when the physics will be changed so that flexi prims dont go into your avatars body or things you sit on etc?
- [13:51 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: Ahh Torley I just checked the Offshore picture and that is the one I meant - thank you so much :)
- [13:51 SLT] Garrett Ceriano: unless you want them to
- [13:51 SLT] Torley Linden: OH GOOD TO KNOW TOURMA (woot)
- [13:51 SLT] Garrett Ceriano: lol
- [13:51 SLT] Jeremy Linden: Actually, that's an interesting myth: Invisible/transparent prims are actually worse for rendering than solid prims.
- [13:51 SLT] Bio Swindlehurst: which version of havok is running now? is it 4 or 5?
- [13:51 SLT] Marianne McCann: 4
- [13:51 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: Good to know Jeremy----thanks kindly
- [13:51 SLT] WidgetHUD v1.1 (Mono): Leeloo Lyle has pinged you.
- [13:51 SLT] Kate Linden: That would be a good topic for our blog
- [13:52 SLT] Jon Linden: writing it down now
- [13:52 SLT] David Ruby: Kate: What? SL Myths? Yea!
- [13:52 SLT] Jeremy Linden: When you can see through an object, the rendering engine needs to figure out what's behind it, and what color it needs to be, what order to render them in, etc.
- [13:52 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: exceptional answer
- [13:52 SLT] Bio Swindlehurst looks in inv for his megaprims
- [13:53 SLT] Jeremy Linden: Bio, I saw Nyx put a 65km megaprim on his head the other day. He proceeded to show off the largest rendering cost I've ever seen.
- [13:53 SLT] Katt Wulluf: Firendly greetings, daniel
- [13:53 SLT] Jeremy Linden: er, Nyx Linden, that is.
- [13:53 SLT] Zamantha Carter: Like looking through Jon :)
- [13:53 SLT] Bio Swindlehurst: lol
- [13:53 SLT] Daniel Voyager: Greetings :D
- [13:53 SLT] Bio Swindlehurst: well last time I saw Nyx he was tiny anyways
- [13:53 SLT] Marianne McCann: Sene that too, Jeremy. Like seven digits or so
- [13:53 SLT] WidgetHUD v1.1 (Mono): Marianne McCann has pinged you.
- [13:53 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: I'd like to be Leeloo Linden
- [13:53 SLT] David Ruby: Daniel: Oooo, can I have that av?
- [13:53 SLT] Marianne McCann: So big, the viewer dun even seen it
- [13:53 SLT] Torley Linden: that's a very alliterative name, Leeloo!
- [13:53 SLT] Jon Linden: there'll definitely be a recurring column on our TNT blog about common Second Life myths, and the testing thereof
- [13:53 SLT] Daniel Voyager: Sorry, it's no transfer! :(
- [13:53 SLT] Garrett Ceriano: Oh, i think it should be possible for residents to creat megaprims, just make is so you cant put scripts in them
- [13:54 SLT] Tourmaline Falken looks at Jon and is itching to go get a pot of cream and a spoon
- [13:54 SLT] Marianne McCann: Docbusters!
- [13:54 SLT] Torley Linden: we must stamp out superstition!
- [13:54 SLT] David Ruby: Daniel: Aww, WALL-E too?
- [13:54 SLT] David Ruby: Marianne: Lol :P
- [13:54 SLT] Kate Linden: Good name Marianne
- [13:54 SLT] David Ruby: Call the Mythbusters, they are in the San Fran area :P
- [13:54 SLT] Torley Linden: well Garrett, there are some benign uses for scripted megaprims. like a giant sign that you can't miss which links to a website. :)
- [13:54 SLT] Marianne McCann grins
- [13:54 SLT] Marianne McCann: Permission to use granted.
- [13:55 SLT] Jon Linden: i've actually seen about half the mythbusters team in person at one time or another, completely at random
- [13:55 SLT] Marianne McCann: I see no problem with megas of a given size. I'm sure that'll eventually be allowable in some ways, at least a bit larger. It happens.
- [13:55 SLT] Zamantha Carter looks at Jon and is reminded of her fine hospital food experiences as a candystriper
- [13:55 SLT] Torley Linden: Docbusters reminds me of Bachbusters. ah, good ol' Don Dorsey... and Wendy Carlos... and their lovably synthage ilk.
- [13:55 SLT] Marianne McCann: Cool, Jon.
- [13:55 SLT] Jon Linden: who eats jello with cream?!
- [13:55 SLT] Daniel Voyager gives Torley a big hug.
- [13:55 SLT] Torley Linden: awwwww
- [13:55 SLT] Daniel Voyager: lol
- [13:55 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: We can call 'em primbusters
- [13:55 SLT] David Ruby hasn't been to the US =(
- [13:55 SLT] David Ruby: Jon: I do.
- [13:55 SLT] Marianne McCann: Gotta love Wendy Carlos. What a talent
- [13:55 SLT] Bio Swindlehurst: been to Us once lol
- [13:55 SLT] Bio Swindlehurst: US*
- [13:56 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: Who ya gonna call? Prim BUSTERS~!
- [13:56 SLT] Torley Linden: Zamantha, totally curious here, are you into Stargate?
- [13:56 SLT] Jaymes Kjeller: Yeah, Megaprims can be used for good things, like building things which can cause less lag,or bad things, like...well, causing havoc.
- [13:56 SLT] David Ruby: Leeloo: Lol...
- [13:56 SLT] Torley Linden: i want Wendy Carlos to do the Tron 2 music, Mari. not sure if that'll happen tho.
- [13:56 SLT] Zamantha Carter: I am, hene the name. Great for lucky chairs too :)
- [13:56 SLT] David Ruby: Jaymes: Or creating workspaces...
- [13:56 SLT] Marianne McCann: I'd lvoe it too. Well see. Doesn't seem all that likely, unfortunately
- [13:56 SLT] Bio Swindlehurst: Hi, I'm Chucky
- [13:57 SLT] Torley Linden: haha that's awesome Zamantha. SG-1 has always helped civilizations across the galaxy from being oppressed by superstition!
- [13:57 SLT] Jaymes Kjeller: David: I suppose you can, if you can hollow them.
- [13:57 SLT] Zamantha Carter: They definitely helped raise the awesomeness quotient
- [13:57 SLT] Leeloo Lyle batts her eyes and rolls her eyelashes
- [13:57 SLT] David Ruby: Jaymes: I was more thinking of 20x20x1-ish for floor and same for roof...
- [13:57 SLT] Daniel Voyager: Shares some stargate pictures in SL from today: http://www.flickr.com/photos/danielvoyager/ :)
- [13:57 SLT] David Ruby: Leeloo: Ouch? :P
- [13:58 SLT] Jaymes Kjeller: David: Oh, I see. :)
- [13:58 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: LOL
- [13:58 SLT] Jon Linden: folks, we have hit the end of our hour
- [13:58 SLT] David Ruby: Aww....
- [13:58 SLT] Marianne McCann: You missed out this weekend, Daniel. Miss th' big party
- [13:58 SLT] Katt Wulluf: nuuuuuu
- [13:58 SLT] Torley Linden: as a serpent guard too, Daniel! cool.
- [13:58 SLT] Katt Wulluf: I'm learning a lot
- [13:58 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: Thanks for the hour
- [13:58 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: 2 mins 2 mins Jon
- [13:58 SLT] Jon Linden: i must run -- everyone have an excellent week!
- [13:58 SLT] Garrett Ceriano: ok, instead of the no scipts idea, what about adding a option in about land to enable creation of mega prims for owners and rentors of land
- [13:58 SLT] David Ruby: Torley: Have you seen the Torley-stone? I took the pics just for you :P
- [13:58 SLT] Daniel Voyager: Indeed, Torley. :)
- [13:58 SLT] Becky Pippen: Bye Jon
- [13:58 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: Bye Jon
- [13:58 SLT] Torley Linden: i got your email and will check that soon David. :)
- [13:58 SLT] Jon Linden: feel free to stick around, of course, but i have things to take care of ^__^
- [13:58 SLT] David Ruby: Torley: Yay!
- [13:58 SLT] Marianne McCann: Time f'r me to get back to work. Figting with particles an mouselook. Ugg
- [13:58 SLT] Jon Linden: see you next week!
- [13:58 SLT] Bio Swindlehurst: cya jon
- [13:58 SLT] Daniel Voyager: Here it is
- [13:59 SLT] Torley Linden: JAFFA! KREE!
- [13:59 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: Did I mention we'd like rendering costs for objects?
- [13:59 SLT] Leeloo Lyle: LOL
- [13:59 SLT] Marianne McCann: Bye Bye!!
- [13:59 SLT] Daniel Voyager: lol
- [13:59 SLT] David Ruby: Torley: The first thing to fall into my mind when seeing it was "Torley", then "I got to take a pic of this" :P
- [13:59 SLT] Colton Linden: take care everyone :)
- [13:59 SLT] Niky Zenovka: Well.... time for me to go too... Thanks everyone! :) Take care.... *Muah*
- [13:59 SLT] Torley Linden: hee hee...
- [13:59 SLT] Torley Linden: how nice of you to share!
- [13:59 SLT] Torley Linden: ta, Colton!
- [13:59 SLT] Daniel Voyager: watch my head part
- [13:59 SLT] Torley Linden: *watches*
