- [13:05 SLT] Marianne McCann: Hi iso
- [13:05 SLT] Justine Cazenove: hiyas ^_^
- [13:06 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: Hi Iso
- [13:06 SLT] Jeremy Linden: Hello! Welcome to Documentation Office Hours. We'll be starting up for real in a few minutes; Torley is off rounding up more attendees.
- [13:06 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: Hey Drazen!
- [13:06 SLT] Drazen Graves: Hey
- [13:06 SLT] Justine Cazenove: hahaha jeremy
- [13:06 SLT] WidgetHUD v1.2 (Mono): Justine Cazenove has pinged you.
- [13:06 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: SL is getting smaller lol
- [13:06 SLT] Justine Cazenove: Yuuuuuuuus!
- [13:06 SLT] Justine Cazenove: lol
- [13:06 SLT] Marianne McCann snickers
- [13:07 SLT] Jeremy Linden: In the meantime, if you have any Knowledge Base or learning-related questions for me, I'd be glad to answer!
- [13:08 SLT] Jeremy Linden: *crickets*
- [13:08 SLT] Justine Cazenove giggles
- [13:08 SLT] Marianne McCann: Anyone... Bueller....
- [13:08 SLT] KaLynne Silvercloud: can't think of anything
- [13:08 SLT] Justine Cazenove: me neither
- [13:08 SLT] Justine Cazenove: lol
- [13:08 SLT] Justine Cazenove kicks his laptop
- [13:08 SLT] KaLynne Silvercloud: I was searching the other day for how to mute somenoe
- [13:08 SLT] KaLynne Silvercloud: haha
- [13:08 SLT] Justine Cazenove: hahahaha
- [13:09 SLT] Justine Cazenove: i figured that out on the first day
- [13:09 SLT] KaLynne Silvercloud: and then started looking for alt avatars
- [13:09 SLT] KaLynne Silvercloud: because I cam across that
- [13:09 SLT] Justine Cazenove: hehe
- [13:09 SLT] KaLynne Silvercloud: seems to work ok
- [13:09 SLT] Becky Pippen: will the doc team be involved in any way with the V-Team's new Second Life Answers website?
- [13:09 SLT] Jeremy Linden: We've been tangentially involved in the Answers project; I think Torley or Jon would know more than me about that one.
- [13:09 SLT] Torley Linden: ok back :)
- [13:09 SLT] Torley Linden: sorry what'd i miss?
- [13:10 SLT] Marianne McCann: Welcome back!
- [13:10 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: wb
- [13:10 SLT] Laurent Bechir: welcome back
- [13:10 SLT] Justine Cazenove: wb torley!
- [13:10 SLT] Jeremy Linden: Not much, Torley! Nobody wants to ask me questions :-P
- [13:10 SLT] Torley Linden: thankyouuuu
- [13:10 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: hahaha Jeremy
- [13:10 SLT] WidgetHUD v1.2 (Mono): Tourmaline Falken has pinged you.
- [13:10 SLT] Torley Linden: what is wrong with you people ;) he heh heh
- [13:10 SLT] Justine Cazenove: lol
- [13:10 SLT] Jeremy Linden must be scary.
- [13:10 SLT] Marianne McCann is mostly listening and taking a break from parade planning
- [13:10 SLT] Torley Linden: i made a custom WindLight day cycle and i am tripping out
- [13:10 SLT] Justine Cazenove: im trying to avoid rl atm
- [13:10 SLT] Justine Cazenove: lol
- [13:10 SLT] Torley Linden: which parade this be, SL6B?
- [13:10 SLT] Laurent Bechir: I've heard about a new dashboard. What it is all about ?
- [13:11 SLT] Torley Linden: oh, rl, that dark, depressing place
- [13:11 SLT] Marianne McCann: Funny you should ask....
- [13:11 SLT] Justine Cazenove: Yuuuuuuuus!
- [13:11 SLT] Torley Linden: Laurent, can you give more context to that? who did you hear that from, any quotes? :)
- [13:11 SLT] Marianne McCann: The Bay City First Anniversary Parade and Party
- [13:11 SLT] KaLynne Silvercloud: friction and gravity blecch
- [13:11 SLT] Torley Linden: Bay City is almost 1 year old already? oh how time flies.
- [13:11 SLT] Justine Cazenove pouts cos twitter doesn't like me
- [13:11 SLT] Laurent Bechir: in fact in a localisation meeting :)
- [13:11 SLT] Marianne McCann: yup. One year this week
- [13:11 SLT] Justine Cazenove: oooo
- [13:12 SLT] Laurent Bechir: I hope it is not top secret :)
- [13:12 SLT] Torley Linden: Laurent, hmmm i am not sure offhand what that might refer to. there are some planned improvements to the My Account area of secondlife.com ... more on that when they come, tho. :)
- [13:12 SLT] Marianne McCann: Come by an check out the parade this Sunday. It promises to be wild
- [13:12 SLT] Torley Linden: Mari is there an event flyer? (i like those for the visuals)
- [13:12 SLT] Marianne McCann: There is. Hang on, I'll pass one your way
- [13:13 SLT] Torley Linden: KaLynne, are you... the Twitter bird?! :O
- [13:13 SLT] Justine Cazenove: lol
- [13:13 SLT] KaLynne Silvercloud: yes
- [13:13 SLT] Torley Linden: oh my goodness gracious
- [13:13 SLT] KaLynne Silvercloud: no
- [13:13 SLT] KaLynne Silvercloud: haha
- [13:13 SLT] Justine Cazenove: lol
- [13:13 SLT] KaLynne Silvercloud: not on twitter on that name
- [13:14 SLT] Torley Linden: your avatar just looks a lot like... the Twitter mascot. well, one of them. there's fail whale and others XD
- [13:14 SLT] Justine Cazenove: hahahaha
- [13:14 SLT] KaLynne Silvercloud: i go thtis
- [13:14 SLT] KaLynne Silvercloud: i think at the bit's and peas store
- [13:14 SLT] Torley Linden: adorable avian, in any case
- [13:15 SLT] Justine Cazenove: oh i see her now
- [13:15 SLT] Justine Cazenove: lol
- [13:15 SLT] KaLynne Silvercloud: i just wanted some thing generic for my work avatar
- [13:15 SLT] KaLynne Silvercloud: haha
- [13:15 SLT] Torley Linden: ahhhh
- [13:15 SLT] Justine Cazenove: i thought i was going crazy
- [13:15 SLT] Justine Cazenove: lol
- [13:15 SLT] Marianne McCann: I'll hafta check out that store
- [13:15 SLT] Torley Linden: Justine that's a very clever use of extended characters in your group tag OMG :)
- [13:15 SLT] Justine Cazenove: Yuuuuuuuus!
- [13:15 SLT] Justine Cazenove: hehehe
- [13:15 SLT] Justine Cazenove: my friend taught me how to do it
- [13:15 SLT] Justine Cazenove: lol
- [13:15 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: It's a shame that, on my screen at east, Kalynne's av is screened out by the namebdge :/
- [13:16 SLT] Justine Cazenove: same here tour
- [13:16 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: least*
- [13:16 SLT] Marianne McCann: Thanks, Kalynne
- [13:16 SLT] Torley Linden: i have to zoom in to KaLynne to see her in all her feathery, flapping glory
- [13:16 SLT] KaLynne Silvercloud: yw
- [13:16 SLT] Justine Cazenove: lol
- [13:16 SLT] KaLynne Silvercloud: very cool place
- [13:16 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: zooms obediently
- [13:16 SLT] Justine Cazenove: lol
- [13:16 SLT] KaLynne Silvercloud: u have to walk around to find the store
- [13:16 SLT] Justine Cazenove: i love ur avi ^_^
- [13:16 SLT] KaLynne Silvercloud: or fly haha
- [13:16 SLT] Justine Cazenove: good thing that i do not eat birds Nuuuuuuu! more
- [13:16 SLT] Justine Cazenove: lmao
- [13:16 SLT] Marianne McCann: Is there anything on the knowledgebase about how LL handles fraud? Friend of mine was taken for L$56k and was told by LL she'd get her L$ back ASAP, but she's not heard anything for a couple. I was hoping to find an article telling her what the procedures are, how long she might be waiting, etc.?
- [13:17 SLT] KaLynne Silvercloud: yikes
- [13:17 SLT] Justine Cazenove: i stick to fishies
- [13:17 SLT] Justine Cazenove: hehe
- [13:17 SLT] KaLynne Silvercloud: how does that happen?
- [13:17 SLT] KaLynne Silvercloud: some gave a friend a hud which he passed to me
- [13:18 SLT] KaLynne Silvercloud: and there was a warning that if i clicked onaccepting it it would take my lindens
- [13:18 SLT] KaLynne Silvercloud: i didn't and deleted it
- [13:18 SLT] Marianne McCann: I don't want to give details, but it was an exploit with her vendors. 'tis all I'll say
- [13:19 SLT] Jeremy Linden: There are some legitimate reasons for objects to want permission to give away your Linden dollars, but this sort of fraud is exactly the reason why we put in that confirmation message.
- [13:19 SLT] Marianne McCann: It wasn't a case where she accepted an object that snagged 'em.
- [13:19 SLT] Marianne McCann: but again, avoiding giving too many details, Patch helped with that
- [13:20 SLT] Jeremy Linden: Excuse me while I stall for a minute to see if we have anything in the KB regarding fraud. I don't think there's much we can reveal to the public about how our fraud detection and related tools work.
- [13:21 SLT] Marianne McCann nods
- [13:21 SLT] Torley Linden: i was thinking it's a troubling thing, but because each situation is different, not sure what we could say that'd be broadly helpful.
- [13:21 SLT] Marianne McCann nods
- [13:21 SLT] Marianne McCann: Ya, it's why I can't say much, either. sensitive stuff
- [13:22 SLT] Jeremy Linden: We do appear to have a fraud hotline, as shown in step 8 of this article:
- [13:22 SLT] Jeremy Linden: kb-4556
- [13:22 SLT] WidgetHUD v1.2 (Mono): http://support.secondlife.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=4417&task=knowledge&questionID=4556
- [13:22 SLT] Marianne McCann looks
- [13:22 SLT] Torley Linden: heya deg2rad, welcome to our office hours :)
- [13:22 SLT] Jeremy Linden: The article itself seems to deal with a different issue, of course.
- [13:22 SLT] deg2rad Weatherwax: friendly greetings torley - what a nice welcome
- [13:23 SLT] deg2rad Weatherwax: hi all.
- [13:23 SLT] Trunkz Tomorrow: HI Deg
- [13:23 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: Hi Deg2rad
- [13:24 SLT] Marianne McCann: Thanks, Jeremy. I'll dig further and see what I can find t'help. It's like a large chunk of our island tier, so a concern
- [13:24 SLT] WidgetHUD v1.2 (Mono): Marianne McCann has pinged you.
- [13:25 SLT] Laurent Bechir: I've seen a Jira asking to have the same reflexion object possible on objects (mirror for example) than there is on the water. Is it something difficult to develop ?
- [13:25 SLT] Jeremy Linden: Understood! I hope our support and billing teams can resolve whatever fraud occured.
- [13:25 SLT] Marianne McCann: Thanks
- [13:25 SLT] Lexis Hendrassen: hello
- [13:25 SLT] Trunkz Tomorrow: Hiya Lexis
- [13:25 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: Hello Lexis
- [13:25 SLT] Laurent Bechir: hello
- [13:25 SLT] Dirtsage Wizardly: hello
- [13:25 SLT] Torley Linden: ahhh yes Laurent, from what i understand it'd be difficult under the current graphics engine. there are, however, changes in the works.
- [13:25 SLT] iso Redgrave: Hello Lexis
- [13:26 SLT] Torley Linden: for a better system to deal with environmental effects like global illumination, shadows, etc.
- [13:26 SLT] Lexis Hendrassen: hey torley
- [13:26 SLT] Torley Linden: under something like that it'd be conceivably easier; some of our graphics gurus like Runitai Linden would be key to ask
- [13:27 SLT] Laurent Bechir: ok thank you :)
- [13:27 SLT] Dirtsage Wizardly: Will the new things be interactive? Is that a priority>\\
- [13:27 SLT] Marianne McCann: I can;t wait til some of that code makes it to the mac side
- [13:27 SLT] Torley Linden: i actually attended a very awesome internal session yesterday hosted by Zen Linden where he went into detail about some horrible graphics bugs and how we've fixed them, and what lies ahead for the future
- [13:27 SLT] Dirtsage Wizardly: How about some details then?
- [13:28 SLT] Torley Linden: Mari, yes. apparently Apple is very tight about their driver specs, and some things that should work don't. we work with Apple as much as we can.
- [13:28 SLT] Torley Linden: Dirtsage, how do you mean by "interactive"?
- [13:28 SLT] Marianne McCann: Ya. I know my card is one of the good ones for shadows an all, but still no apple-happiness
- [13:28 SLT] Dirtsage Wizardly: I'm new to Second Life but not to VR,so I might get the wrong terms
- [13:29 SLT] Torley Linden: yeah, therein lies a case in which... the hardware is capable but the drivers aren't. i'd like better performance on Mac myself, because under Boot Camp on the same hardware, i get much better performance in Windows XP.
- [13:29 SLT] Dirtsage Wizardly: Movers, games, enviroments that change?
- [13:29 SLT] Oliver Szondi: Hiya!
- [13:29 SLT] Oliver Szondi: sorry was late
- [13:29 SLT] Marianne McCann: Best reisdent-created example of shadows and lights, etc. that I've seen so far (great soundtrack, too): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4S2gqZaxA0
- [13:29 SLT] Trunkz Tomorrow: ㋡
- [13:29 SLT] Trunkz Tomorrow: Hey oliver
- [13:29 SLT] Torley Linden: part of the history of us choosing OpenGL however is due to cross-platform compatibility, so we could also run on Mac and Linux. sad when something can't show full graphical glory, but better to have something working basically than nothing at all.
- [13:29 SLT] Oliver Szondi: hey trunkz
- [13:30 SLT] Oliver Szondi: Hey torley!
- [13:30 SLT] Torley Linden: i really enjoyed the Tiny Nation shadows demo with Loco Pocos, that was very creative how they showed a projector
- [13:30 SLT] Marianne McCann: Ya, that was a good one too
- [13:30 SLT] Torley Linden: aka http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IaOcF2yQvUA
- [13:30 SLT] Torley Linden: friendly greetings Oliver :)
- [13:31 SLT] Torley Linden: welcome everyone to our office hours!
- [13:31 SLT] Be Ewing: Hi Torley :)
- [13:31 SLT] IM: Oliver Szondi: hello!
- [13:31 SLT] IM: Oliver Szondi: got a Question
- [13:31 SLT] Lexis Hendrassen: well torley i hace a question for you
- [13:31 SLT] IM: Oliver Szondi: [13:30] Oliver Szondi: why do some of the clearspace login profiles have "."s between the names?
- [13:30 SLT] Oliver Szondi: :D
- [13:30 SLT] Oliver Szondi: For example oliver.szondi
- [13:31 SLT] Lexis Hendrassen: have*
- [13:31 SLT] Torley Linden: there are some things i don't see a lot of in machinima, which i view as next evolutionary phases. tighter syncing/cutting is one, more naturalistic camera motion is another
- [13:31 SLT] Marianne McCann: I've only now started to mess with machinima myself, Using Berio and iMovie - first one, on Bay City, 'natch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tcpcJcmLsOs
- [13:32 SLT] Torley Linden: also, in many of the machinima i've seen with well-designed soundscapes, they're almost always post-processed, and do not use SL's own sounds
- [13:32 SLT] Torley Linden: Dirtsage, is there a particular feature you'd like to see we don't have yet?
- [13:32 SLT] Oliver Szondi: hehe i have started to create films as well :D using ishowzu HD and iMovie
- [13:32 SLT] Marianne McCann: Ya, I've had trouble with getting SL's sounds to record on my end.
- [13:32 SLT] Justine Cazenove: me too marianne
- [13:32 SLT] Robbo Mills: I cheated with some of mine by shooting right off the screen with a handicam. LOL - gave it a bit of shakey-cam verité look. :)
- [13:32 SLT] Torley Linden: i liked iShowU HD for awhile but i was disturbed by too many stability issues. so i go with ScreenFlow now (which records Mac audio fine...)
- [13:32 SLT] Torley Linden: what's your question, Lexis?
- [13:33 SLT] Torley Linden: hahaha Robbo, show me a link? i like the sound of that!
- [13:33 SLT] IM: Oliver Szondi: Oki
- [13:33 SLT] Torley Linden: *saves Mari's movie link*
- [13:33 SLT] IM: Oliver Szondi: :D
- [13:33 SLT] Marianne McCann: I could not support IShowU due to the "belief" page on their website. Maybe a silly reason, but I did nto want my $ going to those causes
- [13:33 SLT] IM: Oliver Szondi: he explained clear space dosnt understand gaps
- [13:33 SLT] IM: Oliver Szondi: hehe
- [13:33 SLT] IM: Oliver Szondi: its a rare bug
- [13:33 SLT] Laurent Bechir: Screenflow is wonderful :)
- [13:33 SLT] Robbo Mills: http://www.intehtoobs.net
- [13:33 SLT] IM: Oliver Szondi: only me and 2 others have it :D
- [13:33 SLT] IM: Oliver Szondi: its sorta like a gift lol!
- [13:33 SLT] Oliver Szondi: can i request a new viewer function?
- [13:33 SLT] Torley Linden: not silly at all, Mari. gotta stand for your values.
- [13:34 SLT] Robbo Mills: It's a mix of stuff - using the SL footage for the rocket FX.
- [13:34 SLT] Lexis Hendrassen: yeas i have a mac. and i want to ask you if there´s a suitable software to record video from the screen itself?
- [13:34 SLT] Marianne McCann grins
- [13:34 SLT] Torley Linden: you could Oliver but more effectively would be reporting it on http://jira.secondlife.com so it doesn't get lost
- [13:34 SLT] Marianne McCann: Lexis - if you don't mind somethign totally stripped down, try Berio
- [13:34 SLT] Torley Linden: oh GREAT question Lexis, there are a variety of options. right now i use iShowU because it's elegant and pretty robust. it's $99 so it's on the pricier side of things.
- [13:34 SLT] Marianne McCann: Then jes take the raw QuickTime into iMovie for prettifying
- [13:34 SLT] Torley Linden: i need to check out Berio. i'm always looking for free alternatives.
- [13:34 SLT] Robbo Mills: Berio? Do you have a link or should we just Google it?
- [13:35 SLT] Torley Linden: it's generally easier to record system sound on a Mac than Windows (where Stereo Mix/What U Hear can be a mixed bag)
- [13:35 SLT] Marianne McCann: http://www.juniortan.com/Public/Berio.html
- [13:35 SLT] Laurent Bechir: don't you talk about Screenflow for 99 $ Torley ?
- [13:35 SLT] Robbo Mills: thnx
- [13:35 SLT] Marianne McCann: You're welcome! :-)
- [13:35 SLT] Torley Linden: how do you mean, Laurent?
- [13:35 SLT] Be Ewing: okay ... obviously I'm in the middle of something once again I haven't a clue about :)
- [13:35 SLT] Lexis Hendrassen: and there´s a same option for a windows system?
- [13:36 SLT] Justine Cazenove: same here be
- [13:36 SLT] Be Ewing: and I have just a plain ole PC
- [13:36 SLT] Laurent Bechir: you said you use IshowU I thought it was Screenflow :)
- [13:36 SLT] Justine Cazenove: im confizzled
- [13:36 SLT] Oliver Szondi: Okies :D well we was talking about machinima and i thought maybe a window colour settins like a TV where we could switch from B&W etx
- [13:36 SLT] Justine Cazenove: lol
- [13:36 SLT] Torley Linden: what i like about ScreenFlow in particular is their refreshing approach to usability: instead of asking you to set resolution and all that beforehand, it just simply lets you record the screen and trim AFTER. so you don't miss anything. it's true you need more hard disk space for that, but that's relatively cheap now.
- [13:36 SLT] Be Ewing: so if I want to make video off my screen what would you best suggest Torley?
- [13:36 SLT] Torley Linden: Lexis, on Windows i'm fond of Techsmith Camtasia.
- [13:36 SLT] Torley Linden: there's also Jing (free, upgradable to Jing Pro) from Techsmith. doesn't do very much but for quick screencasts it's fine.
- [13:37 SLT] Torley Linden: Be, like are you trying to make a video tutorial or machinima?
- [13:37 SLT] Be Ewing: hmmm
- [13:37 SLT] Be Ewing: well Torley that all depends :)
- [13:37 SLT] Be Ewing: I'm not sure yet
- [13:37 SLT] Robbo Mills: machinamatut?
- [13:37 SLT] Jeremy Linden: Jing isn't actually very good for machinima unless you upgrade to Jing Pro, which lets you use a better codec for moving 3D content.
- [13:37 SLT] Torley Linden: i'd also see https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Movie_help and http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Machinima
- [13:37 SLT] Be Ewing: but ... if I were wanting to do this
- [13:37 SLT] Be Ewing: and have basic PC individual machine
- [13:37 SLT] Torley Linden: there are some specialized recording apps like Xfire and WeGame... i don't use them currently but they've been fun in the past
- [13:38 SLT] Be Ewing: what would you suggest for this non-techie geek over here?
- [13:38 SLT] Justine Cazenove: i used to use WeGame
- [13:38 SLT] Torley Linden: Be, i'd try several tools and figure out what you like the most. no substitute for that. likely Jing Pro, FRAPS, Camtasia (30-day trial).
- [13:38 SLT] Be Ewing: hmmm
- [13:39 SLT] Torley Linden: i always warn not to be dogmatic about a single tool. it's very dangerous because as the market moves on and you grow, your needs change
- [13:39 SLT] Be Ewing: Torley - I truly understand your answer ... and I truly appreciate it
- [13:39 SLT] Torley Linden: therefore what i use right now, may be very different next year
- [13:39 SLT] Laurent Bechir: I've seen Camstasia is goin to Mac
- [13:39 SLT] Torley Linden: you're welcome Be :)
- [13:39 SLT] Torley Linden: yes, the Camtasia Mac beta may go head to head with ScreenFlow, since they both have editor suites.
- [13:39 SLT] Torley Linden: on Windows for full-fledged editing i like Sony Vegas Pro; there are cheaper versions. it has a very nice grid cutting system and the sound processing chain is WONDERFUL
- [13:40 SLT] Laurent Bechir: just the price of Camstasia is high
- [13:40 SLT] Be Ewing: Torley - does "Windows" version mater?
- [13:40 SLT] Torley Linden: Be, i'm on Windows XP but should be fine on Vista
- [13:40 SLT] Be Ewing: meaning I still have Windows not Vista for example
- [13:40 SLT] Torley Linden: why i haven't upgraded to Vista: nothing compelling for me. i'm interested about Windows 7 though.
- [13:40 SLT] Justine Cazenove: WeGames worked fine on my vista
- [13:40 SLT] Be Ewing: that's what I have ... Windows XP
- [13:40 SLT] Lexis Hendrassen: ok that will be a great option to trim 3d content to a Mac system. thanks for the options torley
- [13:40 SLT] Justine Cazenove hates vista
- [13:40 SLT] Oliver Szondi: btw torley i love the help island kiosks you have setup
- [13:41 SLT] iso Redgrave: Hi Torley, Hi Jeremy, I was wondering if we can hope for a SL on portable devices or even for some SLim for mobile phones.
- [13:41 SLT] WidgetHUD v1.2 (Mono): iso Redgrave has pinged you.
- [13:41 SLT] Oliver Szondi: hehe justine i know your pain! im now a mac user!
- [13:41 SLT] Torley Linden: oh if they're the ones i'm thinking of, Oliver, i had help with those :)
- [13:41 SLT] Justine Cazenove: im trying to get on mac but Nuuuuuuu! money to buy one
- [13:41 SLT] Justine Cazenove: lol
- [13:41 SLT] Jeremy Linden: iso, I hope for those things all the time!
- [13:41 SLT] Oliver Szondi: lol!
- [13:41 SLT] Oliver Szondi: problem with macs is they get outdated very Quickly
- [13:41 SLT] Torley Linden: iso, there used to be vollee.com but they went out of business. like Jeremy sez tho... we continue to hope. we're in talks with some companies about possible deals but, can't reveal more at the moment.
- [13:41 SLT] WidgetHUD v1.2 (Mono): Torley Linden has pinged you.
- [13:41 SLT] Oliver Szondi: hardware wise
- [13:42 SLT] Justine Cazenove: the state of alabama paid for my laptop and the worst part is i had a choice of any laptop
- [13:42 SLT] Justine Cazenove: lol
- [13:42 SLT] lynsey Fleury: hello everybody:)
- [13:42 SLT] Torley Linden: no more than Windows machines, Oliver -- one exception might be the graphics card, Macs are less flexible.
- [13:42 SLT] Torley Linden: hello lynsey!
- [13:42 SLT] iso Redgrave: So I can keep hoping then :)
- [13:42 SLT] Be Ewing: well ... I've only had once Apple in my life
- [13:42 SLT] Oliver Szondi: indeed torley! good point :D
- [13:42 SLT] Be Ewing: and I grew up primarily with PCs
- [13:42 SLT] lynsey Fleury: hi Torley, gtsy!
- [13:42 SLT] Trunkz Tomorrow: hi lynsey!
- [13:42 SLT] Oliver Szondi: i want a mac touch screen xD
- [13:42 SLT] Justine Cazenove: me too
- [13:42 SLT] Justine Cazenove: lol
- [13:42 SLT] Torley Linden: some things are moot with Macs... like, there's a lot less choices, so that's simplicity. i have both a Mac and Windows box and use them for their strengths. the key thing is finding tools to do what you want and need. if you have a $50,000 computer which can't do that, freakin' useless.
- [13:42 SLT] lynsey Fleury: hello Trunkz:)
- [13:42 SLT] Be Ewing: and I believe my next purchase will be a PC
- [13:43 SLT] Oliver Szondi: id love to test that out on iphoto
- [13:43 SLT] Justine Cazenove: true torley
- [13:43 SLT] Be Ewing: seems like people with PCs have a bit more control over their computers ... granted not much
- [13:43 SLT] Lexis Hendrassen: yes correct
- [13:43 SLT] Justine Cazenove: not me my vista has a mind of its own
- [13:43 SLT] Justine Cazenove: lol
- [13:43 SLT] Torley Linden: Macs basically use the same PC parts but with polish. that integration can save you a lot of time.
- [13:43 SLT] Be Ewing: I just want to go back to DOS :)
- [13:43 SLT] Justine Cazenove: lol
- [13:43 SLT] Be Ewing: I used to understand my computer way back then
- [13:43 SLT] Jo Hema: hahaha
- [13:43 SLT] Robbo Mills: I just like all the shiny new toys.
- [13:44 SLT] KaLynne Silvercloud: oh I loved dos
- [13:44 SLT] Torley Linden: no other computer manufacturer pays as much attention to the fusion of form AND function as Apple, hence why they've also succeeded with consumer goods (iPod) and telephony (iPhone)
- [13:44 SLT] Jeremy Linden: People with PCs (myself included) also have plenty more opportunities to accidentally mess up something fundamental in their operating system with their increased control.
- [13:44 SLT] KaLynne Silvercloud: i could make that computer hum haha
- [13:44 SLT] Oliver Szondi: i loved windows 3.1 ^^
- [13:44 SLT] Torley Linden: WITH GREAT POWER COMES GREAT RESPONSIBILITY OMG
- [13:44 SLT] Marianne McCann: Be - wait for Second Life BASIC
- [13:44 SLT] deg2rad Weatherwax: sl runs better in windows 7 and supports better filtering ... i own a mac.
- [13:44 SLT] Justine Cazenove: the iPhone sucks from what i heard
- [13:44 SLT] Justine Cazenove: lol
- [13:44 SLT] Laurent Bechir: what do you mean by increased contrôl ?
- [13:44 SLT] Torley Linden: hahaha Mari, reminds me of the SL on C64 shot i once mocked up :)
- [13:44 SLT] Robbo Mills: It sucks money from my wallet.
- [13:44 SLT] Marianne McCann loves her iPhone

- [13:44 SLT] KaLynne Silvercloud: i hve an ipod touch
- [13:44 SLT] KaLynne Silvercloud: nice
- [13:44 SLT] Laurent Bechir: you have all control on your mac if you want
- [13:44 SLT] KaLynne Silvercloud: very handy
- [13:44 SLT] Justine Cazenove: oliver i want a ipod touch
- [13:44 SLT] Justine Cazenove: lol
- [13:44 SLT] iso Redgrave: loves her iPhone
- [13:44 SLT] Torley Linden: generally though, Second Life does perform better on Windows than equivalent Mac. this is easy to test in Boot Camp = same hardware, measure performance.
- [13:45 SLT] Justine Cazenove: basically ipod touch and the iphone has the same motherboards in them
- [13:45 SLT] Justine Cazenove: hehe
- [13:45 SLT] Oliver Szondi: Id love LL to make an OS

- [13:45 SLT] Torley Linden: Be, hm, not sure offhand... 2010? lots of blogs have more info
- [13:45 SLT] Robbo Mills: Is "hardware love" considered illicit and needed to be legislated against?
- [13:45 SLT] Torley Linden: nice meeting you too Lexis!
- [13:45 SLT] Torley Linden: glad you could join us?
- [13:45 SLT] Robbo Mills: Just curious.

- [13:46 SLT] Justine Cazenove: i use my laptop for everything
- [13:46 SLT] Justine Cazenove: lol
- [13:46 SLT] Torley Linden: whenever someone develops feelings for an inanimate object, well, that just goes to show the extra love and care that went into making it
- [13:46 SLT] KaLynne Silvercloud: waiting for it to show up
- [13:46 SLT] Justine Cazenove: !

- [13:46 SLT] Justine Cazenove: i have a dell and i have more problems with mine than my mom does

- [13:47 SLT] Robbo Mills: I love California but it's purely tectonic.
- [13:47 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: I have a Dell - but it has an Intel Card. Only top of the range Dell laptops have Nvidia

- [13:50 SLT] WidgetHUD v1.2 (Mono): Torley Linden has pinged you.
- [13:50 SLT] Oliver Szondi: We should get torley to make a face chart along with the differnt emotons xD
- [13:50 SLT] Justine Cazenove: lol
- [13:50 SLT] Torley Linden: Oliver, i think i once knew a guy who did a webpage along those lines...
- [13:50 SLT] Torley Linden: "Eric does an emotion" or something
- [13:50 SLT] Be Ewing: hmmm .... too many political similarities for even me to comment upon :)

- [13:52 SLT] Torley Linden: it's hilarious to hear these personalities when they aren't using their TV announcer voice
- [13:52 SLT] Justine Cazenove: lol
- [13:52 SLT] Torley Linden: it's like, they don't really speak like that all the time
- [13:52 SLT] iso Redgrave: he can talk???

- [13:52 SLT] Justine Cazenove: hahahahaha
- [13:52 SLT] Oliver Szondi: :D
- [13:52 SLT] Torley Linden: but catchphrases really help. REALLY help to make you memorable and easy to approach.
- [13:53 SLT] Torley Linden: i'm serious.
- [13:53 SLT] Justine Cazenove: true
- [13:53 SLT] Oliver Szondi: Torley small Q are you still doing the IBM to Opensim thing?

- [13:53 SLT] Torley Linden: HAHAHAHA
- [13:53 SLT] Trunkz Tomorrow: lol
- [13:53 SLT] Oliver Szondi: LOL
- [13:53 SLT] Justine Cazenove: lol
- [13:53 SLT] Be Ewing: okay ... I'm hearing this background noise
- [13:53 SLT] Torley Linden: Oliver if they request another video i will, but i've been out of the loop on that at the moment
- [13:53 SLT] Oliver Szondi: same torley eheh
- [13:53 SLT] Laurent Bechir: Salut salut
- [13:53 SLT] Laurent Bechir: :)
- [13:53 SLT] Torley Linden: this is why infomercials, despite being so cheesy -- they succeed
- [13:53 SLT] Be Ewing: HI Jeremy :)
- [13:53 SLT] WidgetHUD v1.2 (Mono): Be Ewing has pinged you.
- [13:53 SLT] Torley Linden: they pound a simple message into your head, repeatedly, and then command you to buy!
- [13:53 SLT] Torley Linden: there's no ambiguity about it.
- [13:53 SLT] Justine Cazenove: lol
- [13:54 SLT] Oliver Szondi: like the develpers thing?
- [13:54 SLT] Be Ewing: sounds like French voice perhaps in background
- [13:54 SLT] Oliver Szondi: steve balmer?
- [13:54 SLT] Oliver Szondi: :D
- [13:54 SLT] Justine Cazenove: lol
- [13:54 SLT] KaLynne Silvercloud: shamwow
- [13:54 SLT] Be Ewing: so what is it coming from?
- [13:54 SLT] Robbo Mills: SHAMWOW
- [13:54 SLT] Torley Linden: DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS DEVELOPERS yeah, Steve Ballmer is masterful at that. and so's his Apple rival, Steve Jobs
- [13:54 SLT] Justine Cazenove: ORANGE GLOW!
- [13:54 SLT] Jeremy Linden: Be, do you hear the voice right now?
- [13:54 SLT] Robbo Mills: SpamWow
- [13:54 SLT] Torley Linden: SLAP CHOP!
- [13:54 SLT] Justine Cazenove: lol
- [13:54 SLT] Oliver Szondi: they should make a secondlife version of that

- [13:54 SLT] Trunkz Tomorrow: Torley school us on the art of catchphrases
- [13:54 SLT] Torley Linden: here's what Steve Ballmer would be like if he was a cat in Second Life: http://www.flickr.com/photos/torley/2581614505/
- [13:54 SLT] Laurent Bechir: yes, please :)
- [13:55 SLT] Be Ewing: Sounds stops the plane noise

- [13:55 SLT] Be Ewing: excuse me
- [13:55 SLT] Oliver Szondi: LOL!
- [13:55 SLT] Bacon Hellershanks: Which reminds me to try out that evaluation copy of MURKU 1.4... ScreenFlow is OS X Leopard only. Guess I'll have to buy a new iMac.
- [13:55 SLT] Torley Linden: Trunkz, the first step is admitting things are simpler than they seem. a good catchphrase is the kind of thing you'd hear parodied on the Simpsons. other people need to be able to repeat it back to you on their own accord.
- [13:55 SLT] Be Ewing: I occasionally divert to what I am focussing in on the moment :)
- [13:55 SLT] Trunkz Tomorrow: WooT!
- [13:55 SLT] Trunkz Tomorrow: lol
- [13:55 SLT] Torley Linden: here's an article i wrote on The Power of Personal Catchphrases, i had a feeling it'd come up someday at our Office Hours :) http://www.lifehack.org/articles/communication/friendly-greetings-the-power-of-personal-catchphrases.html
- [13:56 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: haha
- [13:56 SLT] Jeremy Linden: Hahaha. I just watched the video here for the first time. I think we have the most dramatic office hour ever now.
- [13:56 SLT] Tourmaline Falken: Ii think mine would be "tsk"

- [13:56 SLT] Trunkz Tomorrow: ㋡
- [13:56 SLT] Trunkz Tomorrow: thanx
- [13:56 SLT] Torley Linden: humor is so important. if you make people feel good, they'll associate your message with healthy emotions
- [13:56 SLT] Oliver Szondi: one catachphrase i saw today was from wacky waiving inflatable arm flailing tube man
- [13:56 SLT] Oliver Szondi: :D
- [13:56 SLT] Torley Linden: YES! OLIVER! i just got one of those guys from Xstreet!
- [13:56 SLT] Be Ewing: Torley - so very, very true
- [13:56 SLT] Oliver Szondi: LOL
- [13:56 SLT] Oliver Szondi: :D
- [13:57 SLT] Be Ewing: laughter helps to heal people
- [13:57 SLT] Torley Linden: i love loading Xstreet and browsing for completely crazy stuff.
- [13:57 SLT] Torley Linden: yes Be :) laughter is the best medicine, so say some people
- [13:57 SLT] KaLynne Silvercloud: yes x street is great fun
- [13:57 SLT] Becky Pippen: great treatment of catchprases, Torley :-)

- [13:57 SLT] Torley Linden: https://www.xstreetsl.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=89376 <-- free Wacky waving inflatable tube man on SL
- [13:57 SLT] Be Ewing: very true Torley ... and well-documented now in medical research I believe -- though I'm not in that industry either
- [13:58 SLT] Torley Linden: Xstreet recently changed so you login with your normal Second Life account. you don't need a separate account to get in.
- [13:58 SLT] Be Ewing: releases endorphins ... natural feel-good things into your system
- [13:58 SLT] Be Ewing: to help your natural self-healing energies
- [13:58 SLT] iso Redgrave: I saw that in action in Pleasantville...crazy!
- [13:58 SLT] Oliver Szondi: i noticed torley does it use openid?
- [13:58 SLT] Torley Linden: it's interesting because on Second Life, we can't smell each other (and other senses), so to make friends here, you need to use your text and voice chat to the best of your ability, in addition to visual cues like avatar presentation
- [13:58 SLT] KaLynne Silvercloud: i watched a presentatin on some research that was done on peopl ein vw the researchers found that they had a better bmi than other adults
- [13:59 SLT] Robbo Mills: Haven't shopped at Xstreet in a while so I haven't noticed that change.
- [13:59 SLT] Oliver Szondi: i saw the request for openid
- [13:59 SLT] Torley Linden: it does Oliver
- [13:59 SLT] Oliver Szondi: grovey

- [13:59 SLT] KaLynne Silvercloud: wacky
- [13:59 SLT] Be Ewing: Torley - I do it differently
