Old 2008 program meeting
Transcript September 15, 2008
- [10:59 SLT] George Linden: Heya ㋡ I'm rezzing still.. we can get started in a few!
- [11:00 SLT] George Linden: I see some folks still rezzing in/arriving, so we'll wait just a minute or two ㋡ today's meeting might not be too long, more of a touch base
- [11:00 SLT] Tom32 Anatine: yay *\O/* sounds great to me george
- [11:01 SLT] Lexie Linden: We will be doing a transcript of this meeting for the wiki if no one minds?
- [11:02 SLT] Thinkerer Melville: good iddea
- [11:02 SLT] Lexie Linden: : ))
- [11:02 SLT] Thinkerer Melville: will we be in voice?
- [11:02 SLT] Tom32 Anatine has no objections against Lexie's idea
- [11:02 SLT] George Linden: Also, please feel free to add your name to this while we're getting settled ㋡ (attendance link)
- [11:02 SLT] Lexie Linden: Text
- [11:02 SLT] Zai Lynch is a fan of wiki transcripts anyway ^^
- [11:03 SLT] George Linden: Looks like we can get started ㋡ thank you all again for coming! With just a few days notice. Really appreciate it!
- [11:03 SLT] George Linden: Today we have a few items on the agenda but mostly this will be a touch base, since our last meeting was a couple of months ago.
- [11:03 SLT] Tateru Nino: Even one additional day would have helped. I'm juggling two meetings, and it's 4am.
- [11:04 SLT] George Linden: First up... Mia Linden set up a large kiosk to this west of this amphitheatre that holds information about various RHN groups (for those who submitted their information).
- [11:04 SLT] George Linden: (Will aim to please Tateru! Sorry again for the short notice. :( )
- [11:04 SLT] George Linden: It has been suggested that because Tenera doesn't exactly have high traffic,
- [11:05 SLT] George Linden: The kiosk might be better off in another place instead.
- [11:05 SLT] Thinkerer Melville: we could put it in multile places
- [11:05 SLT] George Linden: I think we can all agree on that and are looking into options, as well as better ways to advertise the space.
- [11:05 SLT] George Linden: Surely, Thinkerer *nodnod*
- [11:05 SLT] Lexie Linden: Good point Thinkerer
- [11:06 SLT] Thinkerer Melville: I can put things in several hi traffic areas
- [11:06 SLT] George Linden: Please feel free to check out the kiosk though to see how it works and if it meets its intended function...
- [11:06 SLT] George Linden: If you feel another form of kiosk(s) would be better, let us know!
- [11:06 SLT] Thinkerer Melville: I will probably make my own giver, though
- [11:07 SLT] George Linden: Thinkerer, yeah, once we have a kind of baseline kiosk that everyone agrees meets its intention,
- [11:07 SLT] George Linden: Then maybe at our next meeting or in the future we can share the kiosk openly and those RHN groups who wish to help disperse the kiosks to high traffic places~that could work.
- [11:07 SLT] George Linden: Things to think about for sure.
- [11:08 SLT] Lexie Linden: We could also make a survey so you can all drop in kiosk location suggestions
- [11:08 SLT] George Linden: During our last meeting we were poised to ready a page in the Showcase section of secondlife.com (now in the Search browser) for the Resident Help Network,
- [11:08 SLT] Thinkerer Melville: I have entry things on my website
- [11:09 SLT] Thinkerer Melville: videos etc.
- [11:09 SLT] George Linden: That plan is no longer slated for the near future due to developer bandwidth (lots of focus right now on stability), but we're checking in regularly and making sure we're in the queue for having that option on the table asap.
- [11:09 SLT] George Linden: In the meantime.. we're in touch with Katt Linden who has been giving the forums a facelift and hoping to have an RHN section put together as soon as possible, wrinkles are being ironed out for that at the moment ㋡
- [11:10 SLT] George Linden: And once we have a good number of RHN groups together at the RHN portal, we're going to touch base with Torley to see if there'd be the possibility of a Torley Tutorial on RHN groups ㋡ this will help get the word out as well. X)
- [11:11 SLT] Zai Lynch: woot!
- [11:11 SLT] George Linden: Finally--thanks for bearing with me!--we're itching to make RHN group meetings more normalized as far as when we meet and how often.
- [11:12 SLT] George Linden: Right now we've done it once every quarter, but once every couple of months or once a month could work too. Do Mondays work okay for most here or do you think we can stick with Monday RHN meetings down the road?
- [11:12 SLT] George Linden: We can't accommodate every time zone but can try to vary the times a bit from meeting to meeting. But settling on a day might be a good baseline to start with.
- [11:13 SLT] Thinkerer Melville: Noday ok w/me
- [11:13 SLT] George Linden: Once we have prepared the RHN meetings in a series, with the advanced notice it makes a lot of sense to open up the agenda for this meeting so that all RHN groups have the ability to submit topics for discussion,
- [11:13 SLT] Tateru Nino: Mondays are easy for me. Can't speak for anyone else, mind.
- [11:14 SLT] George Linden: And/or share group events/activities that are supportive of helping new residents. All topics except for support issues of course would be welcome. XD
- [11:14 SLT] George Linden: Okay cool - just wanted to make sure Mondays weren't explicitly -bad- for any one group ㋡
- [11:14 SLT] Reina Quine sure hopes she isn't sitting on someone
- [11:15 SLT] George Linden: And in terms of frequency, which sounds better.. once every 1 month, 2 months, or 3 months sound good for the future?
- [11:15 SLT] Zai Lynch: ^^
- [11:15 SLT] Tom32 Anatine: you are sitting on george actually
- [11:15 SLT] Tateru Nino: Alas, you're on George, dear.
- [11:15 SLT] Lexie Linden: : ))
- [11:15 SLT] Reina Quine: oh just my luck
- [11:15 SLT] George Linden: XD what are the odds
- [11:15 SLT] Carl Metropolitan: It depends on whether we have something to talk about.
- [11:15 SLT] Reina Quine: sorry, rez first, sit later
- [11:15 SLT] Carl Metropolitan: Meeting for the sake of meeting is a waste of time.
- [11:15 SLT] Thinkerer Melville: Depends on what you do
- [11:15 SLT] Reina Quine: wow, Carl and Tat, this is a big meeting this time! XD
- [11:16 SLT] George Linden: Agreed completely, so why don't we stick with 2 months, and we'll find a Monday in November that works for everyone and please do feel free to submit agenda items for discussion,
- [11:16 SLT] Thinkerer Melville: Can meet 1/month, but need to have agenda
- [11:16 SLT] George Linden: By then we should know more about the forums as well and might have some good news on the Showcase page.
- [11:16 SLT] Lexie Linden: Sounds good
- [11:17 SLT] Lexie Linden: We can post an agenda on wiki also
- [11:17 SLT] George Linden: We'll start with every 2 and then see if more or less would be more appropriate depending on how the agendas flesh out ㋡
- [11:17 SLT] Thinkerer Melville: and on fourm?
- [11:17 SLT] Thinkerer Melville: agendas on forum?
- [11:17 SLT] Lexie Linden: Yes I think forum when we are all set up there
- [11:17 SLT] George Linden: Sure, once we get the RHN forum set up we can use that for transcripts, discussions, agendas, and the like ㋡
- [11:18 SLT] George Linden: Next up, Lexie, would you like to go through the RHN group renewal process? X)
- [11:18 SLT] Lexie Linden: Sure
- [11:18 SLT] George Linden: After that, would love to hear casually from you all how your groups are doing, what's new in your efforts, and then take any remaining Q&As
- [11:19 SLT] Lexie Linden: I'm just going to go over the renewal process briefly in case anyone has questions on it
- [11:19 SLT] Lexie Linden: Every 6 months the approved RHN groups will be reviewed. The group wiki page, meeting attendance and profile page will be checked to confirm they are all still meeting the requirements for the RHN program.
- [11:19 SLT] Lexie Linden: Some specifics about the requirements:
- [11:20 SLT] Lexie Linden: The group wiki page should be kept current and updated as needed by the groups documentarian on a monthly basis.
- [11:20 SLT] Lexie Linden: The group profile page/charter must be kept PG and abide by Community Standards at all times.
- [11:20 SLT] Lexie Linden: Each group should have a representative attend at least one RHN meeting within the 6 month timeframe. Attendance Sign In ..is offered during the meetings to document compliance with this requirement.
- [11:20 SLT] Lexie Linden: (Reading meetings transcripts will not satisfy this requirement)
- [11:20 SLT] Lexie Linden: For example...
- [11:21 SLT] Lexie Linden: Those of you here have a next review date of February 2009.
- [11:21 SLT] Lexie Linden: Before that date each group should have had a representative attend a meeting.
- [11:21 SLT] Lexie Linden: We plan to have these meetings 2-3 times in each 6 month segment, so that should make it fairly easy to meet the requirement.
- [11:21 SLT] Lexie Linden: If a group does not meet the requirements at the 6 month review, the group owner/representative will be notified and be given 30 days probation to resolve the item that did not pass.
- [11:22 SLT] Lexie Linden: Sidenote to this...
- [11:22 SLT] Lexie Linden: If a group is given the 30 probation notice to meet the requirements, that does not extend the next normal review date 30 days. The next review will still be 6 months from the normally scheduled review date.
- [11:22 SLT] Lexie Linden: If a group still does not meet requirements after the 30 day probation, that group may be removed from the Resident Help Network.
- [11:22 SLT] Lexie Linden: If this action is taken, the group owner/representative will be notified.
- [11:22 SLT] Carl Metropolitan: What do you mean by updating the Wiki monthly? What if there are no relevant changes in a month long period?
- [11:23 SLT] Lexie Linden: As needed Carl
- [11:23 SLT] Lexie Linden: Any other questions on this process?
- [11:23 SLT] George Linden: Yeah ㋡ realistically the pages will not likely be checked on a monthly basis, it's set more as a guideline.. as February rolls around though, if a group's size jumps a couple hundred that's an easy change to make on the wiki to show it's being updated
- [11:23 SLT] Lexie Linden: exactly
- [11:24 SLT] George Linden: This is more to keep the wiki a solid reference point for when we're able to raise visibility to the groups with greater ease,
- [11:25 SLT] George Linden: Reeks of administration, but really it's just to make sure ducks are in order in case we have new options for advertising and that sort of thing ㋡
- [11:25 SLT] George Linden: ducks are in order.. lol.. ducks in a row*
- [11:25 SLT] Lexie Linden: : ))
- [11:25 SLT] Amber Linden: (rows can be orderly :) )
- [11:26 SLT] George Linden: If there aren't any questions.. what's new with you?!! Open agenda for now or we can move on to questions/answers.
- [11:26 SLT] Tom32 Anatine prefers ducks from the asian restaurant
- [11:26 SLT] Carl Metropolitan: New with us?
- [11:26 SLT] George Linden: Any classes or events in the works, educational builds, tools or tips to share?
- [11:26 SLT] George Linden: New with you, yes ㋡ how are things going with your group.
- [11:27 SLT] Thinkerer Melville: did you give link top wiki?
- [11:27 SLT] Lexie Linden: Please remember to sign in here to document you attended today: (Attendance Link)
- [11:27 SLT] George Linden: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/RHN
- [11:27 SLT] Carl Metropolitan: NCI is going to open Caledon Oxbridge, an Orientation Island created in colaboration with Caledon, in a week or two. The island is finished, we are basically waiting on Linden Lab.
- [11:27 SLT] Lexie Linden: That's great Carl!
- [11:28 SLT] George Linden: Cool, Carl - in queue for RegAPI then?
- [11:28 SLT] Carl Metropolitan: Yes.
- [11:28 SLT] Carl Metropolitan: Desmond Shang is handling that end of the project.
- [11:29 SLT] Carl Metropolitan: We also are building two new InfoNodes: one at Clementina (we have land there now), and one at Maryport (across the bridge from Pooley stage).
- [11:30 SLT] George Linden: Great.. would have loved to have orientation even near Caledon when I started; huge fan of the steampunk genre
- [11:30 SLT] Amber Linden: (can't wait to see it!)
- [11:30 SLT] George Linden: Those are right near some of the core welcome areas, good places to set up InfoNodes
- [11:30 SLT] Lexie Linden: (If any of you would like to recommend other good help groups for the Network please feel free to let us know about them and even give that groups representative the RHN wiki link : ))
- [11:30 SLT] Carl Metropolitan gave you University of Caledon Oxbridge, Caledon Oxbridge (98, 178, 27).
- [11:30 SLT] Lexie Linden: Thanks Carl
- [11:30 SLT] Amber Linden: thanks Carl!
- [11:30 SLT] George Linden: Any other groups using land or other ways to set up stations?
- [11:30 SLT] Tateru Nino: Steampunk and Victorian are quite in vogue at the moment. About the only more popular genre in the mainstream right now is gothloli. The RL stores are full of it for the Spring fashions.
- [11:31 SLT] Carl Metropolitan: We will have 12 InfoNodes when those two are completed.
- [11:32 SLT] George Linden: Tateru, excuse my ignorance XD gothloli?
- [11:32 SLT] Lexie Linden: I hope as your groups become involved in new projects that you add those to your group wiki pages too! Thats a great way to let everyone know what your current focus is : ))
- [11:32 SLT] George Linden: Only thing I can think of is a mix between candy raver and goth XD
- [11:32 SLT] Lexie Linden: lol
- [11:32 SLT] Tateru Nino: (Gothic Lolita - It's semi victoriana in itself)
- [11:33 SLT] Reina Quine: gothic lolita...think frilly clothes befitting a doll that Wednesday Adams would own
- [11:33 SLT] George Linden: Oooh
- [11:33 SLT] George Linden: I see, cool, thanks!
- [11:33 SLT] Lexie Linden: ahhh
- [11:33 SLT] Carl Metropolitan: It was originally a japanese thing.
- [11:33 SLT] Reina Quine: as most sources of wondrous puzzlement are!
- [11:33 SLT] Tateru Nino: You might know it as Harajuku.
- [11:33 SLT] George Linden: XD
- [11:34 SLT] Tateru Nino: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:A_girl_with_a_lolita_fashion.jpg
- [11:34 SLT] Carl Metropolitan: I wonder if there is some sort of island dedicated to that here in SL.
- [11:34 SLT] George Linden: Harajuku.. nope, that's news to me too. SL, brimming with culture. O.o
- [11:34 SLT] Tateru Nino: Heh. This is RL culture, dear one :)
- [11:34 SLT] George Linden: Are there any other topics about RHN groups or group activities? Hate to switch gears X) but want to make sure everyone gets a say if they have an update!
- [11:35 SLT] Lexie Linden: : ))
- [11:35 SLT] Reina Quine: I need FE here to do the whole "this is what the Shelter is working on!" horn tooting, but I can just say that we're a little sidetracked from a big vendor project at the moment due to the illness of one of our longtime volunteers
- [11:36 SLT] George Linden: Ahh okay, hope she feels better..! We'll stay tuned on Shelter
- [11:37 SLT] George Linden: If that's a wrap, won't keep you here! Glad so many could make it today and we'll send out a note with dates for upcoming meetings, a tentative schedule.
- [11:37 SLT] Thinkerer Melville: see hobo wiki about hobo island
- [11:37 SLT] Lexie Linden: We wil keep you all updated as things develop. Thanks for coming today : )
- [11:38 SLT] Reina Quine: thank you Lexie, Amber, George! sorry for squashing you George, won't happen again
- [11:38 SLT] Amber Linden: Marvelous to see you all here :)
- [11:38 SLT] George Linden: Haha! The casualties of rezzing speeds. No harm no foul X)
- [11:39 SLT] George Linden: Thank you all! Will be in touch. Do check out the kiosk at the west end of Tenera!
- [11:39 SLT] George Linden: Any feedback at all is appreciated, notecard format may be best :D
- [11:39 SLT] Lexie Linden: Thanks everyone
- [11:39 SLT] Lexie Linden: Yes feedback always welcome!
- [11:39 SLT] Zai Lynch: so we set up a meeting for monday in two month?
- [11:39 SLT] Zai Lynch: with an open agenda?
- [11:40 SLT] Zai Lynch: (just to make sure i got it right...)
- [11:40 SLT] George Linden: November, with an open agenda everyone can contribute to, but also by then we might have forums set up!
- [11:40 SLT] Lexie Linden: right
- [11:40 SLT] Reina Quine: wooo!
- [11:40 SLT] Zai Lynch: ah kewlz =)
- [11:40 SLT] Carl Metropolitan: Goodbye. I have to get back to RL work.
- [11:40 SLT] George Linden: Likely will be toward the beginning of the month to avoid conflict for USA residents who take off for turkey day later in the month X)
- [11:40 SLT] Tateru Nino: Take care, Carl.
- [11:40 SLT] Lexie Linden: We will send out a reminder, one way or another : ))
