Revision as of 12:35, 1 October 2010
The Mesh First Look (Open Beta) is coming October 13. We will be updating documentation here to help everyone get started.
Introduction
The Mesh First Look is a chance for everyone to try out an early implementation of mesh import, an upcoming feature that will allow creators to model objects in external tools and bring them into Second Life. To try out mesh first look, you will need to:
- Wait until October 13, 2010! Before that date, the mesh-enabled regions will not be accessible.
- Download the Mesh First Look viewer at <LINK>.
- Log on using the Mesh First Look viewer. By default, the Mesh First Look viewer will connect you to the aditi developer grid; as the region, specify any of the active mesh regions, for example, <REGION>. If you have any problems logging in, see these instructions on getting your account set up on aditi.
Walkthroughs
After you have downloaded the mesh open beta viewer and connected to a mesh-enabled region, you can see and create meshes. Try some of the following:
- See what mesh can do
- Uploading a mesh
- Uploading a multi-material mesh
- Uploading a rigged mesh
- Decomposing mesh for physics shape
- Understanding mesh costs
Video Tutorials
- Exporting Autodesk Maya mesh data and importing mesh data into Second Life
- A preliminary tutorial about meshes in Blender
