Description
This is a collection of thoughts and suggestions about the Second Life Railroad ( SLRR ), for the standardization of SLRR Railroads in Second Life. It is intended as a guide for ongoing development of new and existing builds, as well as the development of vehicles.
SLRR
Second Life Railroad ( SLRR ) runs over more then 60 sims on the Heterocera Atoll (Northern) Continent. Anyone with rolling stock designed to run on the SLRR tracks can use this public facility. Along the railway line there are many stations where you can rez a train to start a journey.
The LDPW Moles will be working on extending and improving the SLRR in the future.
Some SL residents have expressed an interest in operating trains on the SLRR and other railroads, much as anyone can operate a car on the roads in SL. Standardization of the SLRR guidance, control and track will help residents develop suitable vehicles. Other rail networks may use different standards and are encouraged to make their standards public if these networks allow the public use them with their own rolling stock.
Residents have been using the SLRR for years and many train builders have created a wide variety of trains using several different methods for locomotion. The current SLRR track standards support all types of trains. Using the SLRR with its current standard is easy, well-understood and accessible to builders of all skill levels.

Other Railway initiatives
There are several other standard gage railroads in SL, some on private land, some on Linden land. This is list of some other examples of large multi sim networks with different sets of guidance, control and track system. The different systems are not necessarily compatible with SLRR standards.
