Requirements to Join
Volunteers must be at least 90 days old. Volunteers should have some basic skills and knowledge of SL, and be familiar with the world of SL inside and outside of the Shelter. They should be able to guide New Residents to whatever their interests might be, or give them advice on how to achieve their objectives.
Above all, Volunteers must have the right attitude. They need to be friendly and approachable "people persons" with the right personality: gregarious, fun, helpful, kind, secure, tolerant, polite, patient, diplomatic and respectful of others.
A Volunteer must be familiar with the Shelter's goals, rules, and activities. Volunteers should understand that they are here to provide information and support to New Residents so they may enjoy all that SL and the Shelter have to offer.
Volunteers need to care about and take pride in the Shelter. In order to serve the Shelter's purpose, you have to believe in its goals.
Volunteers should greet newcomers and offer help when needed.
Volunteers are essential to maintaining a friendly and welcoming atmosphere in the Shelter. When they are actively available in the Shelter to assist, they should participate in open chat. Volunteers should help make the Shelter a fun, safe and attractive place that people will want to return to often.
A Volunteer must be a role model. They should not indulge in drama or inappropriate dress, talk or behavior. They should treat New Residents and each other with courtesy and respect.
We need Volunteers to read the forums and be familiar with events, rules, updates, clarifications, discussions.
Volunteers should encourage visitors to follow the Shelter Rules in a courteous, diplomatic and professional way. They should use banning only as a last resort.
Volunteers must be team players. For the Shelter to run smoothly, we need people to work together and cooperate with each other.
How Volunteers behave outside the Shelter is important too. If they're wearing the Shelter Volunteer tag in another sim, they should try to be good ambassadors of the Shelter. If they see New Residents elsewhere in SL, they should guide them to the Shelter.
Volunteers should encourage people to contribute to the Shelter in whatever way (including tier, donations, game prizes, freebies) fits them best.
Volunteering is largely a matter of attitude. The actual method people choose to help is a matter of individual choice and skill sets. We don't want to see Volunteers spreading themselves too thin by trying to participate in every activity or aspect of the Shelter. We would rather see Volunteers pick a niche for themselves and do all they can to improve that particular aspect of the Shelter.
Volunteers must actually be in the Shelter on a regular basis.
