- [15:01] Cali Riegler: hi all
- [15:01] xstorm Radek: i did a video of a sim crossing
- [15:01] Oskar Linden: I'll wait a minute for people to show up
- [15:01] xstorm Radek: its no so much the crossing but sit scripts
- [15:01] Oskar Linden: here is the agenda for those who want to get it loaded: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Beta_Server_Office_Hours#Agenda
- [15:02] Moy Loon: :o
- [15:02] Oskar Linden: Simon is not going to be able to attend today
- [15:02] Eddi Decosta: RPS deploy?
- [15:02] xstorm Radek: aw
- [15:02] Oskar Linden: he has been pulled into a Scrum sprint
- [15:02] Moundsa Mayo: RAH!!
- [15:03] Psi Merlin: Hello /all
- [15:03] Oskar Linden: Monty is here though
- [15:03] Oskar Linden: that's good enough for me ;-)
- [15:03] kizmut Smit: collider off
- [15:04] Oskar Linden: alrighty then
- [15:04] Oskar Linden: again, here is the agenda
- [15:04] Oskar Linden: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Beta_Server_Office_Hours#Agenda
- [15:04] Oskar Linden: so who noticed all the changes we made this week to AGNI?
- [15:04] Kaluura Boa: What is RPS?
- [15:04] xstorm Radek: Oskar may i ask you some thing ?
- [15:04] xstorm Radek: later ?
- [15:04] Oskar Linden: later please :-D
- [15:05] xstorm Radek: lol
- [15:05] Oskar Linden: add it to the agenda and I'll make sure I bring it up
- [15:05] Oskar Linden: well if no one noticed anything new going to agni this week I guess it was a good deploy
- [15:05] Oskar Linden: :-)
- [15:06] Oskar Linden: ok maestro. that should make your job easy\
- [15:06] Oskar Linden: tell us what got tweaked
- [15:06] Maestro Linden: RPS is the "region presence service". it keeps track of things like which regions are where
- [15:07] Maestro Linden: so a sim will ask it "who is my neighbor to the east", and it will give the region_id and hostname:port info
- [15:07] Moon Metty: aka the space server?
- [15:07] Monty Linden: man, did I ever get the 'lucky' release....
- [15:07] Oskar Linden: remembers how much monty whined when he found he had to be lead dev for 1.40
- [15:07] Maestro Linden: anyway, it's been in mostly in use for over a year now, except for one feature
- [15:07] Oskar Linden: heh
- [15:07] Maestro Linden: which is using the RPS for map items, instead of the old service
- [15:07] Monty Linden: is still whining
- [15:08] Maestro Linden: "map items" are the agent dots, telehub icons, etc that you see on the world map
- [15:08] Kitto Flora: minimap agent dots lag. Slow updates
- [15:08] Kitto Flora: Sorry - Map, not Minimap
- [15:09] Kaluura Boa: I'm not sure it's reasonable to want to see them moving in real time...
- [15:09] Maestro Linden: so when you open the world map and have some of the layers enabled (like 'person' etc), the sim you're in will go through the RPS to locate and query the sims in your map view
- [15:09] Jonathan Yap: That explains why at a certian zoom level things are no longer displayed on the map--there would be too many queries
- [15:10] Maestro Linden: the minimap agent dots follow a different codepath. those are tracked directly by your sim (and only track agents in the sim or in immediate neighbors, I believe)
- [15:10] Maestro Linden: yes, that tends to hurt performance in the viewer and the sim, Jonathan
- [15:11] Moon Metty: i remember the new space server was deployed, it went wothout a glitch
- [15:11] Maestro Linden: anyway, nothing visible should have changed
- [15:11] Moundsa Mayo: Are they the same datasource? Or one is Interest List, the other is larger database?
- [15:12] Moy Loon: Minimap is displays all the dots from all the agents in all the sims your connected too only from the courseupdate thingie
- [15:12] Maestro Linden: I think it's a different source. I don't know the details about minimap agent dots
- [15:12] Moundsa Mayo: k
- [15:13] Latif Khalifa: mini map dots are sent by the sim itself via CoarseLocationUpdate, which is the same thing viewers like Emerald use to display "radar"
- [15:13] Maestro Linden: I don't think we flipped the switch to the new service on aditi yet, but that should be in place for the next beta server deploy to this grid
- [15:13] Latif Khalifa: it's sent automatically every secnd or so
- [15:13] Eddi Decosta: radar?
- [15:14] Maestro Linden: thanks Latif :)
- [15:14] Eddi Decosta: hmm, interesting
- [15:14] Flynn Tigerpaw: Emerald has radar
- [15:14] Entering god: mode, level 200
- [15:14] Jessica Lyon: o.0
- [15:14] Eddi Decosta: yep Maestro, emerald have a radar xui and that radar are very useful
- [15:14] Eddi Decosta: hi Jwaa
- [15:14] Eddi Decosta: Jess*
- [15:14] Moy Loon: blinks
- [15:14] Latif Khalifa: Well it's the same thing as minimap just presented in the list form
- [15:14] Jessica Lyon: waves!
- [15:15] Eddi Decosta: ik
- [15:15] Eddi Decosta: sorry my typos jess :p
- [15:15] Moy Loon: Acctualy, emeralds radar uses the minimap data only for avs out of sight
- [15:15] Jessica Lyon: what Moy said
- [15:15] Moy Loon: The rest it just grabs from the avatar object
- [15:15] Geo Meek: sorry
- [15:16] Maestro Linden: Anyway, it seems that the deploy to agni went super smoothly, so that's good :)
- [15:16] Oskar Linden: I'm sure we can all thank monty for that
- [15:17] Moundsa Mayo: Thank you, Monty!
- [15:17] Oskar Linden: propposes monty as dev lead for everything
- [15:17] Latif Khalifa: i've seen some tweets about map tiles being broken, ie showing ocean where there should be land
- [15:17] Oskar Linden: anyone want to second that?
- [15:17] Monty Linden: there's a plan that will lead to sorrow
- [15:17] Maestro Linden: what was the timing, latif?
- [15:17] Latif Khalifa: 2 hrs ago
- [15:17] Oskar Linden: lead you to sorrow but the grid to ossm
- [15:17] xstorm Radek: yes me
- [15:17] xstorm Radek: i see that too
- [15:17] Maestro Linden: interesting!
- [15:17] Jonathan Yap: Where these well established regions or new ones?
- [15:17] Oskar Linden: do you have a link to said tweets? or a repro?
- [15:18] xstorm Radek: its not loading right
- [15:18] xstorm Radek: looks like a stall
- [15:18] IzzieBellah Hinterland: i too have seen the "holes" in the map
- [15:18] Latif Khalifa: [1]
- [15:18] Latif Khalifa: LL's map tile generation is busted. slurl.com, maps.secondlife.com, Snowglobe's and Viewer 2's map all showing empty ocean.
- [15:18] Jonathan Yap: I saw lots of holes when Linden Homes was going online
- [15:18] Latif Khalifa: from tweet
- [15:18] xstorm Radek: hhhmmm
- [15:18] Maestro Linden: hm, but actually the map tiles are handled by a different service
- [15:19] xstorm Radek: mini map is not refreshing
- [15:19] xstorm Radek: ok what person broke it
- [15:19] Maestro Linden: these map items would just be the layers that overlay on the world map, like people, telehubs, and land for sale
- [15:19] IzzieBellah Hinterland: not regions missing on maps, but regions having holes in them like islands all patchy
- [15:20] xstorm Radek: yes the land is missing and i see blue water
- [15:20] IzzieBellah Hinterland: they usually fill in with some time
- [15:20] Maestro Linden: thanks, we'll take a look
- [15:20] xstorm Radek: i will tp out and come back to see if that fix it or not
- [15:21] Maestro Linden: if you have any tips about specific regions missing or having corrupt map tiles, that might help
- [15:21] IzzieBellah Hinterland: or i am at the edge of a region and the next one over totally dissapears form sight in front of me
- [15:21] Cinder Roxley: The region Loti does it a lot
- [15:21] Jessica Lyon: Izzie, I've seen that alot.. going back almost a year.
- [15:22] xstorm Radek: ok if you TP out and come back its fix
- [15:22] Maestro Linden: that could be a bug in the RPS, unless there was some unrelated network issue or the neighboring region actually crashed
- [15:22] Oskar Linden: doesn't think it's related but we'll keep an eye on it
- [15:22] Maestro Linden: either way, it's bad if it happens regularly =)
- [15:22] Cinder Roxley: I think Loti may have other issues as well, but that's one that typically doesn't show on minimap.
- [15:22] Latif Khalifa: ;)
- [15:22] Oskar Linden: anyway
- [15:22] IzzieBellah Hinterland: i've been in a region and a friend in the next one and one go away, but clearly still on since we didn't crash.
- [15:22] Oskar Linden: let's talk about server 1.42
- [15:23] Oskar Linden: I sent out a mail yesterday
- [15:23] Moon Metty: [2]
- [15:23] Jessica Lyon: raises hand! Quote, "1.42 has UploadBakedTexture caps enabled" Question, is this going to do anything for the fail baking issues plaguing the grid as of the last few weeks?
- [15:23] Oskar Linden: maybe
- [15:23] Jessica Lyon: I so hope so.....
- [15:23] Latif Khalifa: it should, upload is much more reliable
- [15:23] Oskar Linden: Galactus Crimson IM's me daily to tell me he hasn't baked yet
- [15:24] Jonathan Yap: What viewers can make use of this new cap?
- [15:24] Latif Khalifa: lol
- [15:24] metaVOTER: You've: already voted for this landmark(vote value 1)
- [15:24] metaVOTER: You've: already voted for this landmark(vote value 1)
- [15:24] Oskar Linden: was certain he was always baked
- [15:24] IzzieBellah Hinterland: send him to Russia
- [15:24] Jessica Lyon: Emerald support has been absolutely hammered with this problem, every day. I see from the LL Jira, it isn't local to Emerald either.
- [15:24] Serenity Rosencrans: it seems to be worse in emerald
- [15:24] Oskar Linden: well I'm sure that Emerald is doing fancy stuff to exacerbate the issue ;-)
- [15:24] Moon Metty: :)
- [15:25] Oskar Linden: who let fractured touch the code again?
- [15:25] Serenity Rosencrans: but i have seen it with every viewer
- [15:25] Latif Khalifa: "temp textures", now 20 times faster ;)
- [15:25] Moy Loon: Yeah, Emerald always has had it's bake issues in the past
- [15:25] Jessica Lyon: possibly >.> Though we have 'tried' several methods to reduce it.
- [15:25] Jessica Lyon: lol, I blame Phox this time >.>
- [15:25] Oskar Linden: heh
- [15:25] Oskar Linden: that phox
- [15:26] Jessica Lyon: but since fractured lets phox code... it's still frac's fault
- [15:26] Oskar Linden: ok
- [15:26] Serenity Rosencrans: i logged in with emerald 1.4 on 1.42 and watched the console window and it did not get the repeated failures that it does on the main grid
- [15:26] Oskar Linden: so 1.42
- [15:26] Latif Khalifa: script kiddies ;)
- [15:26] Jessica Lyon: promising Serenity
- [15:26] Oskar Linden: Simon is pretty confident that his release is going to be better than simons
- [15:26] Oskar Linden: I mean monty's
- [15:26] xstorm Radek: lol
- [15:27] Moon Metty: lol
- [15:27] Jonathan Yap: Does Snowglobe 1.x support this new baking method?
- [15:27] Oskar Linden: just yesterday he was like "where's all the bugs from your 'crew' oskar? I thought they were good"
- [15:27] Serenity Rosencrans: i think emerald, snowglobe and viewer 2 all do...
- [15:27] Latif Khalifa: (there was a bug with baking textures reloading over and over again if you have http textures enabled. snowglobe has fix upstream, emerald should pull those in)
- [15:27] Moon Metty: where are the release notes?
- [15:27] xstorm Radek: i have to make more bugs
- [15:27] Monty Linden: I blame my release on kelly ;)
- [15:27] Oskar Linden: so in an effort to save face I threw out the challenge to break 1.42
- [15:28] Oskar Linden: hmm. good point. where are those release notes
- [15:28] Moon Metty: [3]
- [15:28] Flynn Tigerpaw: does breaking TCMalloc count?
- [15:28] xstorm Radek: im trying to load a cpu on a server
- [15:28] Oskar Linden: breaking tcmalloc does NOT count
- [15:28] Kaluura Boa: "There is currently no text in this page."
- [15:28] xstorm Radek: lol
- [15:29] Jessica Lyon: GG on the release notes >.>
- [15:29] Flynn Tigerpaw: anyway TCMalloctest3 is offline still
- [15:29] Eddi Decosta: Oskar, when im tp on some region like abbots, i think its more fast to download the prims and textures , but some time i get some invisible prims for 10 or 15 sec, its usual or?
- [15:29] Oskar Linden: uhm, yeah. looks like lil never published the release notes
- [15:29] Flynn Tigerpaw: it took a beating last night
- [15:29] Oskar Linden: we've talked about the changes in here though
- [15:29] Oskar Linden: they were fairly light
- [15:29] Moon Metty: release notes are essential to testing
- [15:29] xstorm Radek: ?
- [15:30] Moon Metty: the more detail, the better the testing
- [15:30] xstorm Radek: what?
- [15:30] xstorm Radek: ? sounds like viewer problems
- [15:30] Oskar Linden: yes and no moon
- [15:30] Eddi Decosta: xstrom, i dont know ..
- [15:30] Oskar Linden: this is where there will be issues
- [15:30] Eddi Decosta: with the viewer 2.1.1
- [15:30] Oskar Linden: and this is what I emailed the group and talked about before
- [15:30] Oskar Linden: - region crossings
- - objects crossing regions
- - teleports
- - vehicle region crossings
- - scripted object region crossings
- - objects rezzings/derezzing
- - texture baking
- = changing outfits a lot and getting updates
- = hit rebake a ton
- [15:31] Serenity Rosencrans: i did those last ones a real lot :)
- [15:31] Moon Metty: alright, that notice was on agni, right?
- [15:31] xstorm Radek: well i have been working on crossings
- [15:31] Oskar Linden: I sent the notice on AGNI and also emailed the beta list
- [15:31] xstorm Radek: every thing i can think of crossing in
- [15:31] Oskar Linden: https://lists.secondlife.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/server-beta
- [15:32] Moon Metty: i have to join the group again on agni ...
- [15:32] Oskar Linden: :-)
- [15:32] xstorm Radek: and i ended up with odd things goiing on with crossings
- [15:32] Oskar Linden: how odd?
- [15:32] Eddi Decosta: Oskar, do you have a list with the TC malloc server?
- [15:32] xstorm Radek: tons of odd stuff
- [15:32] Oskar Linden: it's in the email Eddi
- [15:32] Gooden Uggla: (digest on the mailing list is broken - it's undigested)
- [15:33] Oskar Linden: anything reproducibly odd?
- [15:33] xstorm Radek: yes
- [15:33] Eddi Decosta: i read, the emails but i never see that, wait i reload the mails
- [15:33] Maestro Linden: and.. not found in old server versions :)
- [15:33] xstorm Radek: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-6104
- [15:33] Issue Helper: [#SVC-6104
- http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/svc-6104
- [15:33] xstorm Radek: cool long video
- [15:34] Oskar Linden: eddi: https://lists.secondlife.com/pipermail/server-beta/2010-July/000079.html
- [15:34] Eddi Decosta: Maestro, ok
- [15:34] xstorm Radek: but what you need is at 400 on the video
- [15:34] Latif Khalifa: xstorm you should put 1.42 as affected version
- [15:34] xstorm Radek: true
- [15:34] xstorm Radek: but its not
- [15:34] xstorm Radek: its all
- [15:34] Latif Khalifa: oskar and friends only watch 1.42 xD
- [15:35] xstorm Radek: lol
- [15:35] Oskar Linden: well if it affects 1.40 as well it is lower in priority
- [15:35] xstorm Radek: he best not lol
- [15:35] Oskar Linden: at this stage we have to focus on newly introduced issues
- [15:35] xstorm Radek: it effects all
- [15:35] Oskar Linden: then it is lower priority
- [15:35] Moon Metty: and after that priority drops below 0
- [15:35] xstorm Radek: Second Life Beta Server 1.42.0.207951
- [15:36] xstorm Radek: i did the test on this server
- [15:36] Oskar Linden: and you said the issues are the same on 1.40?
- [15:36] Gooden Uggla: assigns xstorm an intern for a video editor
- [15:37] xstorm Radek: lol
- [15:37] xstorm Radek: it sends a person one sim over to 0,0,0
- [15:37] xstorm Radek: lol
- [15:37] Oskar Linden: so 1.42 will be piloting out as is to agni next week
- [15:38] Rex Cronon: hi. did i get here too late:(
- [15:38] Oskar Linden: so this really is the last time to get anything that is worrying you brought up
- [15:38] Oskar Linden: hi rex
- [15:38] Latif Khalifa: hmm, now that you metnion it i've seen scripts crash on rez with my bike ;) something about bike being derezzed while in motion
- [15:38] Moon Metty: yes Rex, as usual :)
- [15:38] Oskar Linden: derezzed in motion?
- [15:38] Rex Cronon: hi oskar, moon
- [15:38] Eddi Decosta: xstorm you use fraps for your video?
- [15:38] xstorm Radek: hi Rex
- [15:38] Rex Cronon: hi xstorm
- [15:38] xstorm Radek: nope
- [15:39] Eddi Decosta: what you use?
- [15:39] xstorm Radek: dubs
- [15:39] Eddi Decosta: hmmm, on windows?
- [15:39] Oskar Linden: I've been using this new metric that I like
- [15:39] xstorm Radek: yes
- [15:39] Oskar Linden: it's called BFAT
- [15:39] Eddi Decosta: aw i dont know that soft
- [15:39] Oskar Linden: Bad Feeling About This
- [15:39] Gooden Uggla: cookies and beer?
- [15:39] Maestro Linden: xstorm, is svc-6104 pretty consistent?
- [15:39] Moy Loon: Mmm
- [15:39] Issue Helper: [#SVC-6104
- http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/svc-6104
- [15:39] xstorm Radek: BFAT ?
- [15:39] Oskar Linden: if my BFAT emter goes above 50 I know there are problems
- [15:39] Jessica Lyon: i lol'd
- [15:39] Eddi Decosta: lol Oskar
- [15:39] xstorm Radek: yes it is
- [15:39] Oskar Linden: my BFAT meter is always at about 25
- [15:39] Oskar Linden: and I'm ok with that
- [15:40] Oskar Linden: I have no real bad feeling about 1.42
- [15:40] Gooden Uggla: oskar... are you saying that you think something is lurking in 1.42?
- [15:40] Maestro Linden: and does it mostly happen with that spaceship?
- [15:40] Oskar Linden: so I'd peg my BFAT meter at around 35
- [15:40] xstorm Radek: the script is seen wrong by the handoff
- [15:40] Maestro Linden: as opposed to.. other vehicles
- [15:40] Oskar Linden: I think there is something lurking only because it has been so quiet on the issues front
- [15:40] Oskar Linden: but I am mostly ok with it going to the grid next week?
- [15:40] Jessica Lyon: pending doom!
- [15:40] Gooden Uggla: no maestro, that is "big spaceship" that hits 66 on the BFAT meter...
- [15:40] Oskar Linden: how do you all feel?
- [15:41] Maestro Linden: :D
- [15:41] Oskar Linden: now is your time to say "OSKAR PAY ATTENTION TO THIS HUGE ISSUE THAT WILL KILL US ALL!!!"
- [15:41] Jessica Lyon: if it 'might' fix or help baking issues.. Do it!
- [15:41] Moon Metty: lol aliens
- [15:41] xstorm Radek: i think there is a big nasty bug thats going to take down sims
- [15:41] Moundsa Mayo: I am always suspicious about apparently 'perfect' software.
- [15:41] Serenity Rosencrans: well from what i have seen so far i am hoping sooner than later
- [15:41] Moy Loon: I have a showstopper, Raycasting isn't in it :(
- [15:41] Moy Loon: =p
- [15:41] Oskar Linden: heh
- [15:41] Jessica Lyon: lol
- [15:41] xstorm Radek: ?
- [15:42] xstorm Radek: did some one miss Moy ?
- [15:42] Oskar Linden: so you think there is a big nasty bug xstorm?
- [15:42] xstorm Radek: yes i do
- [15:42] Gooden Uggla: vehicle crossing issues aren't big enough for ya?
- [15:42] Oskar Linden: moy is teasing xstorm
- [15:42] Oskar Linden: which issue xstorm?
- [15:42] Gooden Uggla: the train people beeen testing?
- [15:42] Moundsa Mayo: I have, but haven't been sitting in the unit. Will later!!!
- [15:43] Gooden Uggla: my motorcyle jumping across sim lines had less crashes than usual, (until i used the nightly viewer)
- [15:43] xstorm Radek: well if a number of thing have happen when teleporting and crossing sending people to 0,0,0 then there is some thing bigger to it
- [15:43] Oskar Linden: you said up above that issue is in 1.40 as well
- [15:43] Moy Loon: Sounds like packetloss xstorm
- [15:44] xstorm Radek: i was thinking its packet loss to but no go on packet loss test
- [15:44] Jessica Lyon: I think Oskar is mostly concerned with new issues introduced with 1.42 Xstorm.
- [15:44] Gooden Uggla: hmmm... that's probably why our greeter bot is at 0,0,0 after a sim restart
- [15:44] Moy Loon: No, that's another issue
- [15:44] Oskar Linden: the bot issue was unrelated
- [15:45] Moy Loon: That's if you send an agentupdate before another event, it makes you appear at 0,0,0
- [15:45] Gooden Uggla: kk
- [15:45] Gooden Uggla: we don't mind... 0,0,0 is undersater :)
- [15:45] Gooden Uggla: and underwater*
- [15:45] Liisa Runo: (update the bot to fix it)
- [15:45] Moy Loon: Before the 'RegionHandshakeReply' from what I've read :o
- [15:45] Oskar Linden: xstorm if your issue repros in 1.40 as well then we won't be fixing it in 1.42
- [15:45] Latif Khalifa: yup
- [15:45] Gooden Uggla: gotcha ty ty
- [15:45] xstorm Radek: i remember back when people got up from sitting they got sent to 0,0,0
- [15:46] Moy Loon: That's packetloss xstorm
- [15:46] xstorm Radek: but that never happen from a teleport befor
- [15:46] Gooden Uggla: oskar... that's bad bad news for every estate owner
- [15:46] Moon Metty: it always occured when sitting or standing
- [15:46] Oskar Linden: what is bad news?
- [15:46] xstorm Radek: when a person teleport in to a sim and ends up at the wrong place thas not good
- [15:47] Gooden Uggla: i'll wait for the bottom of agenda
