[13:02] Daniel Voyager: hey Kate
[13:02] Yana Ember: hey Jeremy
[13:02] Yana Ember has pinged you.
[13:02] Daniel Voyager: hey Jeremy
[13:02] Daniel Voyager has pinged you.
[13:03] Jeremy Linden: Whoa, what's going on with these particles?
[13:04] Jeremy Linden: That's better.
[13:04] Jeremy Linden: Hey guys :-)
[13:04] waelya Tenk: hi
[13:04] Song Kangjon: thanks, but I don't think that will solve it. Hi Jeremy
[13:04] Song Kangjon has pinged you.
[13:04] waelya Tenk: Song how was the wstion?
[13:04] waelya Tenk: qstion*
[13:04] Song Kangjon: How do I disable the animation that goes with shout
[13:04] waelya Tenk: i want to know too : )
[13:04] Song Kangjon shouts: this animation
[13:05] waelya Tenk: yes
[13:05] Song Kangjon: ah.. didn't happen when sitting here
[13:05] Song Kangjon shouts: this anim
[13:05] Song Kangjon: sometimes I want to stay right where I am when I'm shouting
[13:06] Arawn Spitteler wondersif /me would help
[13:06] Jeremy Linden: I'm not sure that the ability to disable that animation is a basic feature of Second Life... However, I do have a workaround :-)
[13:06] Song Kangjon: OK
[13:06] Jeremy Linden: Actually... I should probably try it myself to make sure it works :-)
[13:06] Jeremy Linden shouts: Can you hear me now?
[13:06] Song Kangjon: yes
[13:06] Jeremy Linden: Erm... Guess I should stand up.
[13:07] waelya Tenk: hi Mari! : )
[13:07] Marianne McCann: Hiya
[13:07] Jeremy Linden shouts: How about now?
[13:07] Song Kangjon: didn't work
[13:07] Jeremy Linden: Nope! I'm totally wrong :-(
[13:07] Yana Ember: i think most AO's stop it
[13:07] Jeremy Linden: Typing "/0" before your text will prevent you from using your typing animation. Otherwise, you'll need to be playing a higher-priority animation, like Yana said.
[13:07] Song Kangjon: the anim has priority 2, according to the SL wiki. Can that be lowered?
[13:08] Arawn Spitteler: It can be stopped, if detected
[13:08] Jeremy Linden: You can't change the priority of the built-in animations, I'm afraid.
[13:08] Song Kangjon shouts: testing shout with /0
[13:08] Song Kangjon: so /0 had no effect
[13:08] Torley Linden: What'd I miss? :)
[13:08] Song Kangjon: and my AO has no effect
[13:08] Arawn Spitteler: https://support.secondlife.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=4417&task=knowledge&questionID=6010
[13:08] Yana Ember: trying to work out how to stop the shouting amin
[13:08] Yana Ember: anim*
[13:08] Yana Ember shouts: mine?
[13:08] Yana Ember: mine dos for a second
[13:09] Yana Ember: lol
[13:09] Jeremy Linden looks over the horizon. BRB.
[13:09] Voice not available at your current location
[13:09] Jeremy Linden: Huh. Someone took care of that one quick :-)
[13:09] Arawn Spitteler: Have a seat, Olga
[13:10] Yana Ember: i stood up to try, it delayed the shout anim for a second
[13:10] Olga Ivanova: Hello. Thank you Arawn.
[13:10] Torley Linden: ARGH...
[13:10] Song Kangjon: here's another
[13:10] waelya Tenk: oh oh
[13:10] waelya Tenk: again
[13:10] Marianne McCann: Ah, nostalgia
[13:11] Arawn Spitteler: Signs, Signs, everywhere are signs...
[13:12] Song Kangjon: The web page Arawn mentioned, SL support center, doesn't have a link to communications
[13:12] Song Kangjon: which is odd for a social networking service like SL
[13:12] Marianne McCann: Social networking service?
[13:13] Song Kangjon: SL is a social networking service
[13:13] waelya Tenk: hmm
[13:13] Song Kangjon: We come here to socialize
[13:13] Marianne McCann: Amongst many, many other things
[13:13] Marianne McCann: I mostly come here to RP and to build/sell.
[13:13] Song Kangjon: RP is form of socializing
[13:13] waelya Tenk: i come here to race fast like a snail
[13:14] Song Kangjon: it's totally dependent on communications
[13:14] Song Kangjon: So is selling.
[13:14] Marianne McCann: I suspect if you asked 10 SL members why they come here, you'd get 15 different answers
[13:14] Marianne McCann grins
[13:14] waelya Tenk: i think i agree with Mari
[13:14] Yana Ember: yeah
[13:14] waelya Tenk: still too is network social thing
[13:14] Thend Destiny quietly waves to everyone :)
[13:14] Song Kangjon: Almost all of which would be deeply involved in communications
[13:14] Marianne McCann: I'm not saying it is not "social networking," but it is a lot more.
[13:14] Yana Ember: he Thend
[13:14] waelya Tenk: yes a lot a lot
[13:15] Song Kangjon: Yes. But I'm sure you agree that communications is at the heart of almost everything everyone does here
[13:15] Marianne McCann: Oh, certainly, but Communication != Social Networking per se
[13:15] Song Kangjon: So why no link to support for communications issues?
[13:15] Song Kangjon: that was my main point
[13:15] Thend Destiny: It's quite essential, and the better that and accessible information works, the better SL works
[13:15] Arawn Spitteler: Social Network? All Reality is a Shared Creation.
[13:15] waelya Tenk: here, out here and probaly in moon too communication is heart of all
[13:16] Arawn Spitteler: Forest and Trees, since Everything is communicated, as something computers do.
[13:16] Song Kangjon: Yes. So one would expect fine-grained control of communications functions, and easy access to support and information to use that control.
[13:17] Daniel Voyager: WB Torley! :)
[13:17] Arawn Spitteler should have ccome wearing a noob
[13:17] Torley Linden: Pardon for my continued disappearances. XD
[13:17] Yana Ember: wb Torley
[13:17] Song Kangjon: But I don't see it on the support page. Or anywhere else I've looked on the SL site.
[13:17] Leasha Clip: kewl
[13:17] Song Kangjon: That's why I finally came here to look for an answer to my question.
[13:17] Kate Linden: Song, you should be able to get support for communication offered through Second Life, such as voice, IM, group chat etc. Is that what you mean?
[13:18] Yana Ember: hi Ziki
[13:18] Song Kangjon: Yes.
[13:18] waelya Tenk: well.. i must say too i prefer ask around here that go to web to search answers... so hard for me the web second life...
[13:18] Song Kangjon: Yes, SL web site is not easy to navigate
[13:18] Thend Destiny: The more in-world, the better
[13:18] Kate Linden: There are many articles in the Knowledge Base and our support teams provide help with those inworld features.
[13:18] Ziki Questi whispers: hi yana
[13:19] Jeremy Linden: Ironically, waeyla, we're the ones who write the information you should be searching for. We hold these office hours so you can tell us what would help you find it :-)
[13:19] Arawn Spitteler: How do we formulate Perspectives of Documentation? Internet Protocol Proffessionals will be looking for the documentation as much as Artistic Financinie Proffessionals.
[13:19] waelya Tenk: i know Jeremy... and i promise i tryed to go to wen there to search.. but i cant do it! : )
[13:19] waelya Tenk has pinged you.
[13:19] waelya Tenk: web*
[13:19] Thend Destiny: Knowledge Base, SL Wiki, etc, wasn't it said that was going to be accessible in-world too?
[13:20] waelya Tenk: ok im sorry english.... i read very slow.. go ahead people ilove to read all this : )
[13:20] Song Kangjon: Jeremy, here's my suggestion: On this page: https://support.secondlife.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=4417 put in a link to "communications", which would lead to topics about chat, IM, gestures, etc.
[13:20] Song Kangjon has pinged you.
[13:20] Kate Linden: Thend, once we move the Knowledge Base to the wiki, those articles will show through inworld search ALL tab.
[13:20] Song Kangjon: Great.
[13:20] Jeremy Linden: The All tab of Search already searches the wiki; we have to remain somewhat tight-lipped about other specific developments for the moment ;-)
[13:20] Thend Destiny just realized Torley was big lips and a cowboy hat O.o
[13:20] Arawn Spitteler: Actually, you could probably open the page
[13:20] Thend Destiny: Gotcha Kate, thank you
[13:20] Torley Linden: Thend, I'm pretty minimal at the moment! :D
[13:21] Song Kangjon: Anyway, did we find an answer to my question: How do you disable the animation that goes with shouting? or change its anim priority?
[13:21] Thend Destiny: And thank you too, Jeremy.. It sounds exciting
[13:21] Thend Destiny has pinged you.
[13:21] Jeremy Linden: Ah, yes. We are moving the Knowledge Base into the wiki... that's public knowledge :-)
[13:21] Thend Destiny: Lol Torley
[13:21] Torley Linden: We'll be promoting the fact you can use the Search > All tab to search the Wiki in-Viewer, I know some commenters have brought this up.
[13:21] Torley Linden: (Commenters on blogs.secondlife.com)
[13:21] Torley Linden: It's one of those tips that's simply useful to know!
[13:21] Thend Destiny: Good question, Song
[13:21] Kate Linden: You can search now for some of the pilot articles. From the ALL tab, select Wiki from the category drop down. Example article How do I walk or run?
[13:22] Torley Linden: Song, that's a specific and interesting thing to wonder about. I wonder if someone's made an AO which suppresses or replaces that in particular.
[13:22] Torley Linden: I know some people have made AOs for more realistic crying and other gesticulating.
[13:22] Niky Zenovka: Hellos
[13:23] Torley Linden: Hello and welcome!
[13:23] Song Kangjon: That's worth searching for, Torley
[13:23] Niky Zenovka: Hi Torley
[13:23] Song Kangjon: But SL doesn't give us that level of control, I guess
[13:23] Torley Linden: If we can't figure that out here, Song, you may very well want to ask in Second Life Answers! Know where that is?
[13:23] Song Kangjon: No
[13:23] Thend Destiny: About merging in-world with web, what if, to make it more recognizable for new folks already familiar with webpages, you make a Linden area that mimics the style and format of the Wiki? Like, LOOKS like a webpage?
[13:23] Torley Linden: Since the typing anim can be suppressed, it's sensible to think there may also be a switch for shouting.
[13:23] Arawn Spitteler: SL gives quite a lot of control, but not all is default
[13:23] Song Kangjon: that's what I thought, Torley
[13:24] Torley Linden: https://blogs.secondlife.com/community/answers
[13:24] Song Kangjon: thanks, Torley
[13:24] Thend Destiny: SL is the center of the new virtual uberweb, after all.. This would help bridge the gap in people's minds
[13:24] Thend Destiny: (And please excuse me for talking in-between topics)
[13:24] Torley Linden: We'll have more details on integrating the wiki with in-Viewer help to come in good time, I hope! (As initially announced at our SLCC workshop.)
[13:24] Arawn Spitteler: In the listen event, llStopAnimation("shout"); might do it
[13:24] Kate Linden: Song, this page might be helpful: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Internal_Animations
[13:25] Song Kangjon: Arawn, what do you mean?
[13:25] Jeremy Linden: Hm. I wonder if Arawn's idea would work. He's referring to an LSL scripting function.
[13:25] Song Kangjon: I looked at the internal animations page, thanks, Kate. It tells me the priority of the animation
[13:25] waelya Tenk: yes cool : )
[13:25] waelya Tenk: yay Arawn
[13:25] Arawn Spitteler: Instead of a full AO, just stop Shout, when the avatar speaks
[13:26]
[13:26] Song Kangjon: Right. That would be good.
[13:26] Song Kangjon: But not stop all of shout -- I still want the sound to carry
[13:26] Jeremy Linden is writing a test script for this.
[13:26] Arawn Spitteler: The above would simply stop the animation
[13:26] Song Kangjon: i.e., the range at which my text will be seen
[13:27] Song Kangjon: perfect, then
[13:27] Yana Ember: the range would be the same
[13:27] Song Kangjon: that would work
[13:29] Niky Zenovka: Hmmm... topic is animation? Have a question, but on other animation type.... =)
[13:29] Torley Linden: Please do ask, Niky!
[13:30] Arawn Spitteler: What's the other animation type?
[13:30] Niky Zenovka: Is it possible to animate 2 different textures, different sides, on an one prim object?
[13:30] Jeremy Linden: Ok, time to test this :-)
[13:30] Jeremy Linden shouts: I am shouting now!
[13:30] Niky Zenovka: (llTextureAnimation....=
[13:30] Yana Ember: you did it Jeremy
[13:30] Yana Ember has pinged you.
[13:30] Jeremy Linden shouts: Looks like I'm not animating :-)
[13:30] Jeremy Linden: Arawn, for the scripting win :-)
[13:30] Arawn Spitteler: Not unless you can use the textures clevery. You can only have one TExture Animation, on a prim
[13:30] Torley Linden: Oooh! Nice.
[13:30] Torley Linden: And here we have a moment!
[13:30] waelya Tenk: yay Arawn!
[13:31] Torley Linden: *clapclapclap*
[13:31] Yana Ember: wtg Arawn
[13:31] waelya Tenk: that was good idea
[13:31] Song Kangjon claps
[13:31] Ziki Questi applauds
[13:31] Daniel Voyager: great job! :) claps
[13:31] Song Kangjon: What did you do?
[13:31] Niky Zenovka: Let me explain... I have a big sphere, which is Earth, and it is hollow... the inner side is the continents, and outer is the clouds layer... I wanted to rate them opposite side
[13:31] Marianne McCann: Woo!
[13:31] Arawn Spitteler: He built a quick override for the shout animation
[13:31] Song Kangjon: In that box?
[13:32] Jeremy Linden: Yup. I can hand out the script, full-perms, to anyone who wants it.
[13:32] waelya Tenk: pls!
[13:32] Yana Ember: yes please :D
[13:32] Song Kangjon raises her hand. "Please!"
[13:32] Thend Destiny: Jeremy, your typing anim Ao wouldn't be affecting your shout, would it?
[13:32] Thend Destiny has pinged you.
[13:32] Niky Zenovka: I could accomplish via llTargetOmega plus llTextureAnim.... but.... it does not bring the effect on my previous 2 prim Earth
[13:32] Daniel Voyager: yes please!
[13:32] Arawn Spitteler: Scripts exist in Objects, to function, and the basic object is a box
[13:32] Ziki Questi: yes please!
[13:32] Thend Destiny: And thank you :)
[13:32] Torley Linden: Well let's see Song test it and see how it goes!
[13:32] Marianne McCann: Hi Melchizedek
[13:32] Jeremy Linden: I thought I might, Thend, so I overrode it for one of the test shouts :-)
[13:32] Song Kangjon: I'd love to
[13:32] Song Kangjon accepted your inventory offer.
[13:32] Thend Destiny: Cool, nicely done ;)
[13:32] Melchizedek Blauvelt: Hi all, sorry for the lateness (blames Nyx)
[13:33] waelya Tenk accepted your inventory offer.
[13:33] waelya Tenk: ty Jer!
[13:33] Thend Destiny: Hello Mel
[13:33] Daniel Voyager accepted your inventory offer.
[13:33] Yana Ember: hi Mel
[13:33] Daniel Voyager: ty
[13:33] Thend Destiny accepted your inventory offer.
[13:33] Song Kangjon: so now I can put that script into some object that I'm wearing and it will suppress my shout animation?
[13:33] Thend Destiny: Ty :)
[13:33] waelya Tenk: yes! : )
[13:33] Jeremy Linden: In theory, yes. :-)
[13:33] Arawn Spitteler: Tardiness, if you please, Mulch; Late represents a very different fan club.
[13:33] Song Kangjon: except I can't build or rez an object here
[13:34] Jeremy Linden: I do not endorse or condone this as an official Linden Lab solution, though... just one guy handing out a toy :-)
[13:34] Thend Destiny: Heh heh
[13:34] Daniel Voyager: hey Youri
[13:34] Youri Ashton: hello!
[13:34] Song Kangjon: OK, I put it into this bracelet
[13:34] Song Kangjon shouts: test test
[13:34] Thend Destiny: Hello Youri
[13:34] waelya Tenk: test it Song : )
[13:34] Thend Destiny: It works Song!
[13:34] Song Kangjon shouts: test again
[13:35] Ziki Questi: that's very cool :)
[13:35] Arawn Spitteler sees Sopng shouted, but didn't see her shouting
[13:35] Song Kangjon: it suppresses most of the anim -- watch closely
[13:35] Song Kangjon shouts: test
[13:35] waelya Tenk: haha
[13:35] Song Kangjon: now it didn't suppress it at all
[13:35] Thend Destiny: Hmm, saw a flash of shout there
[13:35] Jeremy Linden: Yeah, it's not perfect... the scripting engine has to take a few beats to figure out you said something, then react to it.
[13:35] waelya Tenk: : ) try turn AO off?
[13:35] Youri Ashton: daniel back to non-human avi i see :)
[13:35] Yana Ember: your mouth opens, but it would do if you shouted anyway
[13:35] Song Kangjon shouts: so maybe a longer shout would give a better result?
[13:36] Song Kangjon: oh, yeah, that worked great!
[13:36] Song Kangjon: Thank you, Jeremy!!
[13:36] Song Kangjon has pinged you.
[13:36] Song Kangjon: Thank you everyone!
[13:36] Torley Linden: Here at the Doc Dock, come see the most silent shouts ever. :)
[13:36] Thend Destiny is impressed
[13:36] Torley Linden: This has been a fantastic demonstration!
[13:36] Jeremy Linden: Keep in mind that it won't work as well in laggy Regions, since it'll take more time for the server to react :-)
[13:36] Song Kangjon: Of course.
[13:36] Daniel Voyager: yes Youri. I like change! :)
[13:37] Song Kangjon fidgets with pleasure at her new shouting ability
[13:37] waelya Tenk: hehe nice!
[13:37] Youri Ashton: :)
[13:37] Jeremy Linden: Speaking of scripting, did anyone here get a chance to read my blog post a few weeks ago, about LSL scripts?
[13:38] Thend Destiny: Nuts, I missed it
[13:38] Jeremy Linden: It's still up :-)
[13:38] Thend Destiny is learning scripting from the ground up atm
[13:38] Thend Destiny: I'll check it out, thx ;)
[13:38] Thend Destiny: Hello Ardy
[13:38] s scripted objects are often ground-up
[13:38] Ardy Lay: Oh boy. Center stage again. How embarasing
[13:38] Laurent Bechir: what url, please ?
[13:39] Jeremy Linden: https://blogs.secondlife.com/community/community/tnt/blog/2009/08/12/hello-avatar
[13:39] Jeremy Linden: That should be the one.
[13:39] Yana Ember: Jeremy, could i get a copy of that shout script please?
[13:39] Yana Ember has pinged you.
[13:39] Laurent Bechir: ty
[13:39] Yana Ember accepted your inventory offer.
[13:39] Jeremy Linden: Sure thing.
[13:39] Yana Ember: thankyou :D
[13:40] Song Kangjon: I just sent it to some friends. It'll soon be circulating around SL.
[13:40] Youri Ashton: talking about links, the pictures taken last week by me are on my blog, for those that like to have them
[13:40] Ziki Questi accepted your inventory offer.
[13:40] Nicholas Hawthorne: hello everyone :)
[13:40] Thend Destiny: Neat Jeremy, a good starter introduction
[13:40] Thend Destiny has pinged you.
[13:40] waelya Tenk: hola!
[13:40] Thend Destiny: Hello Nicholas
[13:40] Youri Ashton: hello nicholas!
[13:40] Thend Destiny: Hello avatar!
[13:41] Yana Ember: hi Nicholas
[13:41] Nicholas Hawthorne: forgot it was wednsday lol
[13:41] Daniel Voyager: lol
[13:41] Jeremy Linden: I got some good responses from experienced scripters in the comments, but not very many new scripters asked me any questions :-)
[13:41] Song Kangjon: Well, thanks again everyone. Sorry to take up so much of office hours! I appreciate the help very much. Now I'm off.
[13:41] Youri Ashton: i actually just got home, local thing going on here
[13:41] waelya Tenk: bye Song!
[13:41] Thend Destiny: Those new to scripting are way too nervous about it, probably lol
[13:41] Youri Ashton: thought i wouldnt make the meeting o_0
[13:42] Yana Ember: bye song
[13:42] Thend Destiny: The concept of scripting really puts many off, like, they think it's too way out there for them
[13:42] Thend Destiny: Seeya Song
[13:42] Youri Ashton: daniel, dont make me take out my dragon avi :)
[13:42] Kate Linden: Here isa single prim with one rotation scripts and four different rotating textures.
[13:43] Daniel Voyager: hehe
[13:43] Nicholas Hawthorne: xD
[13:43] Kate Linden: *script
[13:43] Yana Ember: it is quite confusing if your not used to it
[13:43] Marianne McCann: Hey Naxos!
[13:43] Melchizedek Blauvelt: I thought for months Linden Office Hours were probably like dentist appointments, Jeremy
[13:43] Melchizedek Blauvelt has pinged you.
[13:43] Jeremy Linden: Yeah, that's been my experience too, Thend. Lots of people seem to think of LSL as some kind of black magic, when really it's just a very specific set of instructions :-)
[13:43] Daniel Voyager: I prefer this one.
[13:43] Naxos Loon: hello
[13:43] Nicholas Hawthorne growls...
[13:43] Arawn Spitteler had http://blip.tv/file/304481 load with his FireFox: If anything, Scriptng is oo simle, an designed to eep usout of Trouble.
[13:43] Ziki Questi smiles at Naxos
[13:43] Naxos Loon: zikilina
[13:43] Jeremy Linden: Uh. Does that mean that you only attend office hours every six months, or when your teeth hurt? :-)
[13:43] Thend Destiny: Exactly Jeremy.. I describe it like simply learning a foreign language, and with all the effort that would that inclusive
[13:43] Thend Destiny has pinged you.
[13:44] Thend Destiny: Lol
[13:44] Nicholas Hawthorne: xD
[13:44] Marianne McCann: Dentist visits? "Is it safe?"
[13:44] Niky Zenovka: Interesting Kate... how did you do that? More interesting, you are rotating 4 diff textures in one side!
[13:44] Thend Destiny: That's a really neat prim, Kate
[13:44] Kate Linden: It's a twisted prim.
[13:44] Thend Destiny: Ahh
[13:44] Niky Zenovka: Ok...
[13:44] Jeremy Linden: Ooh... I bet I know how she did it.
[13:44] waelya Tenk: wow
[13:44] Daniel Voyager: Dentist visits lol
[13:45] Marianne McCann: Love prims like that. I used them both in my home and in Nova Albion for displaying photos
[13:45] Niky Zenovka: I thought I could control the texture animations on a Sphere too, by specifying the inner and outer sides?
[13:45] Torley Linden: Alas Jon won't be able to make it to our Office Hours today, he's immersed in an exciting new project!
[13:45] Thend Destiny: Aww, and cool, Torley
[13:45] Niky Zenovka: But what you did is really cool
[13:45] Torley Linden: We're just full of cool demos today!
[13:45] Marianne McCann: saw another yesterday that used the same prim abuse but with a slideshow script keyed into the different faces. Really smart work
[13:45] Nicholas Hawthorne: AWWW MAN.......
[13:46] Torley Linden: Hey I reconize that texture...
[13:46] waelya Tenk: heeh
[13:46] Niky Zenovka: ~~~* lmao *~~~
[13:46] Marianne McCann: Makes me want to pull out some of the fun sculpts I've been doing for my BL build
[13:46] Kate Linden: We have a blog post on TNT with links to a twisting prim guide by Ayumi Cassini: https://blogs.secondlife.com/community/community/tnt/blog/2009/07/30/ultimate-guide-to-prim-twisting-by-ayumi-cassini You should definitely check it out.
[13:46] Torley Linden: Lots of great resources to go around. :)
[13:46] Arawn Spitteler: Scripting is essentially telling he object how to respond to events
[13:47] Marianne McCann: Found an inworld tool that allows you to build using basic prims, and generates a sculpt map from the result. Not too detailed work, but great for quick scaffolds and such
[13:47] Thend Destiny: Wowee, nice Kate.. I know a jewelry maker that might be interested in that.. Plus can use any tips I can get too
[13:47] Ardy Lay: Kate's hair isn't loading. Texture console says that Kate's hair texture would occupy zero pixels on screen. :-(
[13:47] Thend Destiny: Wow Marianne
