- [12:02 SLT] Simone Linden: :(
- [12:02 SLT] Torben Trautman: oh je
- [12:02 SLT] Lara Shepherd: oh sorry
- [12:02 SLT] Zai Lynch: ui o.O
- [12:04 SLT] Tom32 Anatine: hey danica
- [12:04 SLT] Danica Linden: hi :)
- [12:04 SLT] Zai Lynch waves :-)
- [12:04 SLT] Simone Linden: Der Grund warum das alles so lange gedauert hat,
- [12:04 SLT] Lara Shepherd: hmmm, sorry Simone tut mir echt leid
- [12:04 SLT] Simone Linden: Hi Danica
- [12:04 SLT] Torben Trautman: Hi Miss Danica :)
- [12:04 SLT] Lara Shepherd: Hi Danica!
- [12:04 SLT] Simone Linden: I am just talking about why we are not using Lingotek for now.
- [12:05 SLT] Danica Linden: hi guys!!!!!
- [12:05 SLT] Danica Linden: yes :(
- [12:05 SLT] Danica Linden: sadly
- [12:05 SLT] Danica Linden: so good to see everyone
- [12:05 SLT] Danica Linden: it's been a while
- [12:05 SLT] Simone Linden: Yes. So we will see what they come back with in a couple of weeks-months.....
- [12:05 SLT] Danica Linden: I only IM with you guys or communicate via jira's
- [12:06 SLT] Torben Trautman: I keep you updated with pictures
- [12:06 SLT] Torben Trautman: hehehe
- [12:06 SLT] Lara Shepherd: lol
- [12:06 SLT] Simone Linden: For now I am using a tool to create a translation memory thatäs called Trados.
- [12:06 SLT] Danica Linden: yes, we'll see re: Lingotek
- [12:06 SLT] Danica Linden: torben: that is true!!!
- [12:06 SLT] Simone Linden: I am using this to pull all your great tranlsations into a translation memory, so we can reuse them.....
- [12:06 SLT] Danica Linden: torben, i was so into skating over at your amusement park for a while, it was an addition... lol
- [12:07 SLT] Torben Trautman: awww
- [12:07 SLT] Lara Shepherd: hehe
- [12:07 SLT] Torben Trautman: you should see the new games we put there
- [12:07 SLT] Torben Trautman: *giggles*
- [12:07 SLT] Danica Linden: oh, no, new addiction lurking at the park... :)
- [12:07 SLT] Simone Linden: is that where I played dice?
- [12:07 SLT] Lara Shepherd: is it a free tool Simone? But I doubt it
- [12:07 SLT] Torben Trautman: yes :)
- [12:07 SLT] Simone Linden: No, Trados is NOT free.
- [12:07 SLT] Lara Shepherd: thought so :)
- [12:07 SLT] Danica Linden: and it is not shareware either
- [12:07 SLT] Danica Linden: it is a single-user tool
- [12:07 SLT] Zai Lynch: we need slurs torben, so we can invade it later ^_^
- [12:07 SLT] Danica Linden: desktop app
- [12:08 SLT] Simone Linden: there is a 30 day trial version but otherwise you have to pay.
- [12:08 SLT] Lara Shepherd: I see
- [12:08 SLT] Torben Trautman: ooo sure :)
- [12:08 SLT] Zai Lynch: :-S
- [12:08 SLT] Simone Linden: So, that was the bad news.....
- [12:08 SLT] Lara Shepherd: and the good ones?
- [12:08 SLT] Simone Linden: I am really sorry.
- [12:08 SLT] Tom32 Anatine: we all rock!!!
- [12:08 SLT] Lara Shepherd: yessss
- [12:08 SLT] Simone Linden: The good ones?
- [12:08 SLT] Tom32 Anatine: that was good news huh?
- [12:08 SLT] Zai Lynch: we'll survive it i guess ^_^
- [12:08 SLT] Danica Linden: oh, and we have a response from Support
- [12:09 SLT] Simone Linden: Did I say there where good news
- [12:09 SLT] Danica Linden: regarding wire transfers for Germany
- [12:09 SLT] Danica Linden: (adding the payment options)
- [12:09 SLT] Zai Lynch: ty @ torben ^_^
- [12:09 SLT] Torben Trautman gave you Kids Kingdom - Ceeara by Design, AmourEternal (156, 52, 24).
- [12:09 SLT] Lara Shepherd: (I hoped for good news Simone :o))
- [12:09 SLT] Danica Linden: (I guess that is good news)
- [12:09 SLT] Tom32 Anatine smiles
- [12:09 SLT] Tom32 Anatine: ah pass my greetings to maurice danica and thanks to him for handling it that quick
- [12:09 SLT] Lara Shepherd: yes Danica!
- [12:09 SLT] Simone Linden: I just received the strings for the payment opions
- [12:09 SLT] Danica Linden: well, thank Simone
- [12:09 SLT] Danica Linden: she will be localizing
- [12:09 SLT] Tom32 Anatine: thanks simone
- [12:09 SLT] Danica Linden: :)
- [12:10 SLT] Simone Linden: There are two articles that also relate to that.
- [12:10 SLT] Simone Linden: I have not had a chance to look at them yet but will do so tomorrow.
- [12:10 SLT] Danica Linden: yes, simone do you have those from Jon yet?
- [12:10 SLT] Danica Linden: or should I ask him?
- [12:11 SLT] Simone Linden: I might decide to put them into JIRA for translation, if I do that, I will need them back very soon, so I will set a deadline.
- [12:11 SLT] Simone Linden: If I can not localize the 2 related articles, I will cry for help!
- [12:12 SLT] Simone Linden: Danica, I received them from Fritz
- [12:12 SLT] Danica Linden: ah, good
- [12:12 SLT] Danica Linden: sorry
- [12:12 SLT] Tom32 Anatine: well would you mind rezzing 2 objects for me simone? I prepared something that would speed up our work and make it more efficiant
- [12:12 SLT] Simone Linden: It was great that you caught that one, Lara and Tom!
- [12:12 SLT] Lara Shepherd: sure
- [12:12 SLT] Simone Linden: No tom. Hang on one minute.
- [12:13 SLT] Simone Linden: Before I pass over to Tom:
- [12:13 SLT] Simone Linden: Do you guys ever use KOMODO EDIT?
- [12:13 SLT] Simone Linden: http://www.activestate.com/komodo_edit/
- [12:13 SLT] Lara Shepherd: huh, what is this?
- [12:13 SLT] Zai Lynch: i use gedit...
- [12:14 SLT] Simone Linden: It is a text editor. great for xml, html files. Comes with a spellchecker.
- [12:14 SLT] Lara Shepherd: ah, nice
- [12:14 SLT] Tom32 Anatine laughs
- [12:14 SLT] Tom32 Anatine: I use ultra edit
- [12:14 SLT] Simone Linden: Does that have a spellchecker Tom and Zai?
- [12:14 SLT] Zai Lynch: it can at least highlight xml / html (and others). not sure about spellchecking
- [12:15 SLT] Tom32 Anatine: not that I know of, I use other tools for spellchecking since it is a 3 stage process on this side
- [12:15 SLT] Simone Linden: ok. Komodo does not highlight code, which is great in gedit. But tom will tell us more about his process in a sec.
- [12:15 SLT] Tom32 Anatine laughs
- [12:15 SLT] Tom32 Anatine: 1st spellcheck via open office, then I use ultra edit for synchronous scrolling of EN and DE version to make neccessary adjustments to the translation and finally I check the syntax by other tools and in the end the spelling again
- [12:16 SLT] Simone Linden: Since we are not going to use a translation tool for now, it would be great if we can work with the best tools possible (free tools!)
- [12:16 SLT] Simone Linden: Okay. Shall we all have a look at what tom prepared?
- [12:16 SLT] Zai Lynch: yay ^_^
- [12:17 SLT] Lara Shepherd: yes :)
- [12:17 SLT] Simone Linden: Tom, do you want to pass me your files?
- [12:17 SLT] Tom32 Anatine: rez those 2 objects please
- [12:17 SLT] Tom32 Anatine: you might need to rotate them a bit to make the stuff visible
- [12:18 SLT] Simone Linden: one sec
- [12:18 SLT] Tom32 Anatine laughs
- [12:18 SLT] Tom32 Anatine: no worries training OH for simone
- [12:18 SLT] Lara Shepherd: :o)
- [12:18 SLT] Simone Linden: That good?
- [12:18 SLT] Tom32 Anatine: can you raise the tree a bit
- [12:18 SLT] Tom32 Anatine: so that the note is readable?
- [12:19 SLT] Simone Linden: that one?
- [12:19 SLT] Tom32 Anatine: thanks alot
- [12:19 SLT] Tom32 Anatine: 1 second
- [12:20 SLT] Tom32 Anatine: everyone can see that?
- [12:20 SLT] Tom32 Anatine: yummy pineapple
- [12:20 SLT] Lara Shepherd: yep
- [12:20 SLT] Simone Linden: Just to explain to everyone. tom suggests this workflow. We want to discuss it tonight to see how we can use it or make corrections, amendments, etc
- [12:21 SLT] Tom32 Anatine: well... learning from the past, the present and stipulated to the fact that we won't have the translation tools on hands too soon, I have ccome to the conclusion that it could have a really highly positive impact on the efficiance of our work if we tuned the processes a bit
- [12:21 SLT] Tom32 Anatine: we always had problems that we had to put articles
- [12:21 SLT] Tom32 Anatine: on hold since something needed to be fixed
- [12:21 SLT] Tom32 Anatine: or we had alot of work due to the fact that we had to review links after a certain period of time
- [12:22 SLT] Tom32 Anatine: so I would propose, that we have a close look at the architecture and linking of an issue that should be translated right away, as shown in the workflow
- [12:22 SLT] Danica Linden: sure
- [12:23 SLT] Danica Linden: so
- [12:23 SLT] Tom32 Anatine: when an english issue is chosen to be localized, one of the checks that should be done right away is if it links to other articles or not
- [12:23 SLT] Danica Linden: what you are proposing is to have a "localizability assessment" of the content
- [12:23 SLT] Danica Linden: and the links
- [12:23 SLT] Danica Linden: and outline quesetions ahead of starting the translation
- [12:23 SLT] Danica Linden: right?
- [12:23 SLT] Tom32 Anatine: if it is linking, the article is added to the "list" and later put into a tree like it is shown on the right
- [12:23 SLT] Simone Linden: yes. you want to check the links before sending the articles for translation
- [12:23 SLT] Tom32 Anatine: if no links are in the article it can be translated right away
- [12:24 SLT] Tom32 Anatine: th e big advantage, if we work through the tree from bottom to top, we can release the entire chunk at 1 time without having to do any further checks later
- [12:24 SLT] Danica Linden: well, is that something that can be part of the translation: assign a task to yourself, check the content for issues, review links, etc.
- [12:25 SLT] Danica Linden: if there are issues, bring them up to Simone/me and we'll solve them x-functionally here at Linden (if possible)
- [12:25 SLT] Danica Linden: or suggest a workaround
- [12:25 SLT] Tom32 Anatine: Danica, if it is a part of the translation it is DEFINITVLY unproductive, it should be checked right away so that we can work efficiantly
- [12:25 SLT] Danica Linden: that is what I am say8ing
- [12:25 SLT] Danica Linden: saying:
- [12:25 SLT] Danica Linden: before you start translating
- [12:25 SLT] Danica Linden: you review your text frist
- [12:25 SLT] Torben Trautman: maybe we could use office hours to work it out
- [12:25 SLT] Danica Linden: right?
- [12:26 SLT] Danica Linden: sure
- [12:26 SLT] Tom32 Anatine: yes, and then we would have to make a comment or alert somebody and wait again, it would be better if that is done a bit faster, or are we allowed to set in our own issues?
- [12:26 SLT] Danica Linden: or just ping me
- [12:26 SLT] Danica Linden: and simone
- [12:26 SLT] Simone Linden: Yes. That sounds good.
- [12:27 SLT] Tom32 Anatine: I mean if we are set the number of 5 articles per week, we should be given the possibility to do it in a way that does not create a mess thereafter
- [12:27 SLT] Danica Linden: ok
- [12:27 SLT] Simone Linden: 5 is a relative number.
- [12:27 SLT] Danica Linden: I don't think we can do 5 a week
- [12:27 SLT] Danica Linden: frankly
- [12:27 SLT] Tom32 Anatine smiles
- [12:27 SLT] Tom32 Anatine: at LL everything is relative e=mc^2 *giggles jokingly*
- [12:27 SLT] Danica Linden: ok, moving on
- [12:28 SLT] Simone Linden: Thanks, Tom, for bringing this up.
- [12:28 SLT] Simone Linden: So this means that the next articles I have ready to put into JIRA will be put into JIRA by me tomorrow...
- [12:28 SLT] Danica Linden: btw, zai and everyone: thank you for looking into the English article to German article correlating
- [12:28 SLT] Zai Lynch: very welcome (^_^)
- [12:28 SLT] Danica Linden: :)
- [12:29 SLT] Simone Linden: Then, whoever grabs them, will let me know ASAP if there are any stumbling blocks. Sound good`?
- [12:29 SLT] Danica Linden: it is mega helpful, Zai!
- [12:29 SLT] Zai Lynch: woot! lara did a big chunk of work on it as well
- [12:29 SLT] Lara Shepherd: yes, SImone. It worked fine like this time
- [12:29 SLT] Simone Linden: Because of the time difference between UK and SF, I can get the email to the people in SF first thing their mroning.
- [12:30 SLT] Danica Linden: (Lara rocks!!)
- [12:30 SLT] Lara Shepherd gives Zai a "Kopfnuss"
- [12:30 SLT] Simone Linden: So, we can hopefully get these things out of the way before we get stopped in our tracks
- [12:30 SLT] Zai Lynch: ^^ yuss!
- [12:30 SLT] Simone Linden: In terms of Workflow in the JIRA. What do you all think about the milestones? Too many?
- [12:31 SLT] Simone Linden: Or does that work for you all?
- [12:31 SLT] Zai Lynch: i think it's fine that way. although my mailbox is really stuffed at times ^^
- [12:31 SLT] Lara Shepherd: hm, what is happening exactly in the QA process? It was never so much clear
- [12:31 SLT] Torben Trautman sets up his confused face
- [12:31 SLT] Simone Linden: good question!
- [12:32 SLT] Torben Trautman: which milestones?
- [12:32 SLT] Simone Linden: when you set the JIRA to translation or editing in progress, in QA, testing, etc.
- [12:32 SLT] Torben Trautman: oh right
- [12:32 SLT] Torben Trautman: hehehe
- [12:33 SLT] Simone Linden: I thought in the QA process, that that means it is when I do a last proof-read, punctuation, etc. because, then there is another milestone called "testing", I guess that is for testing links, etc?
- [12:33 SLT] Simone Linden: Sorry, my brain is a bit dead tonight. What a sentence!!!
- [12:33 SLT] Lara Shepherd: yes, also reviewing once more the punctuation etc
- [12:34 SLT] Simone Linden: OK. But I thought testing was after it was published?
- [12:34 SLT] Torben Trautman: Maybe we can have one that says Updating
- [12:34 SLT] Lara Shepherd: yes, it is after being published
- [12:34 SLT] Simone Linden: Instead of testing?
- [12:34 SLT] Simone Linden: Or a new one.
- [12:34 SLT] Simone Linden: Thanks, Lara.
- [12:35 SLT] Torben Trautman: a new one
- [12:35 SLT] Lara Shepherd: but still, sometimes there are some bugs in
- [12:35 SLT] Torben Trautman: with the new workflow testing should be reduced to a minimum workflow
- [12:35 SLT] Simone Linden: Yes. That would be the best.
- [12:35 SLT] Torben Trautman: but with updating we could mark an article that has an update in the english version
- [12:35 SLT] Simone Linden: To reduce the steps.
- [12:36 SLT] Tom32 Anatine: I do not think that I got to that part of explaining the "new workflow" torben since I was interupted, but it really doesn't matter
- [12:36 SLT] Simone Linden: Oh, I see.
- [12:36 SLT] Lara Shepherd: You mean you would like to throw out testing?
- [12:36 SLT] Lara Shepherd is now confused, lol
- [12:36 SLT] Simone Linden: NO. I was just wondering if they all make sense and are necessary >)
- [12:36 SLT] Lara Shepherd: ah ok :)
- [12:36 SLT] Torben Trautman: I think testing is great
- [12:36 SLT] Danica Linden: ok, so after something is published, you guys test
- [12:36 SLT] Lara Shepherd: right
- [12:36 SLT] Torben Trautman: it allows to see the document live
- [12:36 SLT] Lara Shepherd: yes
- [12:37 SLT] Lara Shepherd: which is very good
- [12:37 SLT] Torben Trautman: but when we have all links localized
- [12:37 SLT] Danica Linden: if you need something fixed by Linden, you mark "Verified Needs Fixing"
- [12:37 SLT] Torben Trautman: it will be quick
- [12:37 SLT] Danica Linden: if you have fixed something, you mark it "Verified Fixed"
- [12:37 SLT] Danica Linden: if you looked it over and it looks fine, you mark Verified
- [12:37 SLT] Danica Linden: Then, I take it to JON and have him republish
- [12:37 SLT] Lara Shepherd: yessss :) Danica, you passed the test
- [12:37 SLT] Torben Trautman: hehe
- [12:37 SLT] Zai Lynch: i think we should set a legend in the wiki which explains the milestones a little
- [12:37 SLT] Danica Linden: and then it can be set back to "Testing"
- [12:37 SLT] Simone Linden: Thanks, Danica :)
- [12:38 SLT] Danica Linden: (I created most of those milestones)
- [12:38 SLT] Lara Shepherd: ah, we can set it back to testing, didn't realize that
- [12:38 SLT] Torben Trautman: isn´t there a wiki article about it?
- [12:38 SLT] Danica Linden: you can set back to previous tasks almost everything
- [12:38 SLT] Torben Trautman: in the CT project area
- [12:38 SLT] Simone Linden: is there?
- [12:38 SLT] Danica Linden: and you can sort the articles according to what milestone they are set to
- [12:38 SLT] Tom32 Anatine: I will leave, see you whenever folks
- [12:38 SLT] Simone Linden: I guess I should read that one ASAP
- [12:38 SLT] Zai Lynch: oh? i'm not sure... there is one that explains the initial setup on how to localize an article. i'm not sure if the new workflow options are part of it
- [12:39 SLT] Lara Shepherd: oops
- [12:39 SLT] Torben Trautman: mhm
- [12:39 SLT] Torben Trautman: I´ll look it up
- [12:39 SLT] Danica Linden: no, it needs to be updated
- [12:39 SLT] Lara Shepherd: We got once a notecard by Lexie explaining the testing
- [12:39 SLT] Danica Linden: zai you are right
- [12:39 SLT] Danica Linden: I'll update the wiki
- [12:39 SLT] Danica Linden: to add the new options
- [12:39 SLT] Zai Lynch: oki :-) ty
- [12:40 SLT] Danica Linden: and explain how to set the milestones to previous
- [12:40 SLT] Danica Linden: but also
- [12:40 SLT] Danica Linden: if you think that there are too many milestones
- [12:40 SLT] Danica Linden: let me know and I'll fix that
- [12:40 SLT] Danica Linden: for me, I think, the milestones around testing could be fewer
- [12:41 SLT] Torben Trautman: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/German_KB_Translation_Project
- [12:41 SLT] Torben Trautman: that´s the page I meant
- [12:41 SLT] Danica Linden: yes, torben
- [12:41 SLT] Danica Linden: this is the page we need to update
- [12:41 SLT] Danica Linden: to reflect the new milestones and flow around testing
- [12:42 SLT] Danica Linden: also, torben, I just read this comment above: but with updating we could mark an article that has an update in the english version
- [12:42 SLT] Torben Trautman: oh yes :)
- [12:42 SLT] Danica Linden: I think this is a huge bit for us
- [12:42 SLT] Torben Trautman: hehe too true
- [12:42 SLT] Danica Linden: as Documentation team still does not have a way to alert us when they update an article
- [12:42 SLT] Danica Linden: they are working on it
- [12:43 SLT] Simone Linden: But they will try to alert us, that's waht they said :)
- [12:43 SLT] Zai Lynch: so for the moment, they could do it manually via mail?
- [12:43 SLT] Torben Trautman: on the parature website I saw a rss feed feature
- [12:43 SLT] Torben Trautman: maybe that could help
- [12:43 SLT] Danica Linden: interesting point, torben
- [12:43 SLT] Danica Linden: I never played with that rss feature
- [12:44 SLT] Danica Linden: but that could help us see if an article has been (re)uploaded
- [12:44 SLT] Torben Trautman: yay
- [12:44 SLT] Lara Shepherd: oh that would be awesome!
- [12:44 SLT] Simone Linden: I know that DY has some kind of process to compare the pages
- [12:44 SLT] Simone Linden: I will ask him how he does it on his pages.
- [12:45 SLT] Torben Trautman: and until then Zai and I will be the third world working bees, trying to keep the archive up to date
- [12:45 SLT] Danica Linden: well, plain diff
- [12:45 SLT] Torben Trautman: *giggles*
- [12:45 SLT] Danica Linden: oh, me too
- [12:45 SLT] Danica Linden: (3rd world)
- [12:45 SLT] Torben Trautman: hehe
- [12:45 SLT] Lara Shepherd: And I keep an I on the spreadsheet lolol
- [12:45 SLT] Zai Lynch: ^_^
- [12:45 SLT] Simone Linden: LOL
- [12:45 SLT] Danica Linden: hehe
- [12:45 SLT] Simone Linden: YOu guys are great!!!
- [12:45 SLT] Zai Lynch: woot!
- [12:45 SLT] Danica Linden: yey
- [12:46 SLT] Lara Shepherd: Am on it right now to collect all articles - no worries, not to give them out or share, just for the links, updated date etc. I have to say, lol, sorry, that the folders in the KB are a little disaster, hehe, sorry
- [12:47 SLT] Danica Linden: oh, you are right
- [12:47 SLT] Lara Shepherd: like an article appears in like 10 folders
- [12:47 SLT] Danica Linden: Jon promised to clean up the folders, btw
- [12:47 SLT] Lara Shepherd: yay!!!
- [12:47 SLT] Torben Trautman: WOOOHOOO!!!!
- [12:47 SLT] Danica Linden: lara: you are so right!
- [12:47 SLT] Simone Linden: Yes, actually, Jon said that if I would translated the English folders, we'd mirror the English site
- [12:47 SLT] Danica Linden: (yeah, seriously!) :)
- [12:47 SLT] Lara Shepherd: And some articles just have a sentence: please refer to this or that page for the info
- [12:47 SLT] Danica Linden: i know
- [12:47 SLT] Danica Linden: lol
- [12:47 SLT] Lara Shepherd: I laughed about that with Zai already, hehe
- [12:47 SLT] Simone Linden: But that will take some time.
- [12:47 SLT] Lara Shepherd: yes, of course
- [12:48 SLT] Zai Lynch: ^^
- [12:48 SLT] Lara Shepherd: Just sharing my impression I had :)
- [12:49 SLT] Danica Linden: true
- [12:49 SLT] Lara Shepherd: Oh Simone, you asked for articles which we think could be translated next, did you get any ideas?
- [12:49 SLT] Simone Linden: No >(
- [12:49 SLT] Lara Shepherd: ups
- [12:49 SLT] Danica Linden: well, we have the 2 articles for wire transfer that will be next
- [12:49 SLT] Danica Linden: right?
- [12:49 SLT] Simone Linden: But I requested new ones from Jon,
- [12:49 SLT] Torben Trautman: that new user folder would be a great start
- [12:49 SLT] Simone Linden: I will post them tomorrow.
- [12:50 SLT] Lara Shepherd: The SL for Beginner's Torben?
- [12:50 SLT] Simone Linden: I have 5 new ones from Jon, plus the two wire transfer
