- [13:11 SLT] Elite Runner: ok
- [13:11 SLT] xstorm Radek gave you Snapshot : Chat about SL tips & tricks with, Beaumont (30, 167,.
- [13:11 SLT] Kate Linden: We'd love to hear your questions about what is helpful and relevant to your SL experiences.
- [13:12 SLT] Skills Hak: the knowledge base will go wiki style?
- [13:12 SLT] Torley Linden: so yeahhhh be sure to ask Kate your curiosities!! :D
- [13:12 SLT] Jeremy Linden: Please to be not sound spamming this meeting :-)
- [13:13 SLT] Kate Linden: Right now we are in the end stage of testing the wiki as a home for the Knowledge Base
- [13:13 SLT] Jon Linden: Skills, that's what we're hoping to do!
- [13:13 SLT] Jon Linden: what Kate said
- [13:13 SLT] Youri Ashton: oh kate, i still need those links from you for the knowlage base, so i can start
- [13:14 SLT] Torley Linden: http://tr.im/kb2wiki for more info :)
- [13:14 SLT] Erinyse Planer: sorry if im in someones way or on someones head etc
- [13:14 SLT] Arawn Spitteler: Anyone get nailed by a virus, this week? I caught a nasty on monday night
- [13:14 SLT] xstorm Radek: kate i was thinking when looking at the wiki it may sound silly but what about a floating wiki help tree of the info one is looking for ?
- [13:14 SLT] Kate Linden: Youri, they are all on the wiki. That's the joy of using the wiki vs. Parature.
- [13:14 SLT] Arawn Spitteler: We all rez in the way, it's part of the fun
- [13:14 SLT] Torley Linden: moving KB stuff to Wiki has several plausible advantages, including allowing Residents to contribute actively, overall being easier to update, and if we get some desired improvements in place, better search. and oh, better linkability is a big one.
- [13:14 SLT] Kate Linden: xstorm, do you mean an index?
- [13:14 SLT] xstorm Radek: so they can have a quicker way of recording what they have or have not look at yet
- [13:15 SLT] Sasy Scarborough: with the wiki style what is to stop people from messing with it ?
- [13:15 SLT] Kate Linden: Here is the pilot info for anyone who wants to check it out http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/KB2Wiki_Pilot
- [13:15 SLT] Erinyse Planer: permission constriants
- [13:15 SLT] Torley Linden: Sasy that's a common (and understandable) concern we addressed earlier!
- [13:15 SLT] Arawn Spitteler: It's amazing, that Residents can edit the Wiki; I added the link to G-Team Office Hours, to the Office Hours Page, and the G-Team hasn't had an open hour since.
- [13:15 SLT] xstorm Radek: some thing more like a root tree of search items one has used so they may back step
- [13:15 SLT] Torley Linden: we have FlaggedRevs for revision control :)
- [13:15 SLT] Erinyse Planer: only some people can alter it
- [13:16 SLT] Sasy Scarborough: awesome :)
- [13:16 SLT] Torley Linden: historically wiki vandalism is very, very low
- [13:16 SLT] Sasy Scarborough: thank you Torley
- [13:16 SLT] xstorm Radek: ?
- [13:16 SLT] Sasy Scarborough: its my first session and im so excited i might bounce
- [13:16 SLT] Torley Linden: and also other Residents who are helpful will revert stupid ass changes
- [13:16 SLT] Biancaluce Robbiani: Will be an auto regulation in what is written on the wiki or for what will be translated?
- [13:16 SLT] Torley Linden: so if someone is going to be a jerk they'll be dealt with :p
- [13:16 SLT] Youri Ashton: vandalism in general is low, Torley ;)
- [13:16 SLT] Erinyse Planer: such language torley
- [13:16 SLT] Torley Linden: hey, i tell it like it is =)
- [13:16 SLT] Biancaluce Robbiani: ty Torley you just answered
- [13:16 SLT] Arawn Spitteler: I figure, that it's so simple to be a nuisance, that nobody bothers.
- [13:16 SLT] Mojito Sorbet: People doing translations probably only want to do relateively stable pages, or else they have to keep redoing it.
- [13:17 SLT] Youri Ashton: i know Torley, just liked to add that :p
- [13:17 SLT] Taiki Henusaki: I can help translating into Spanish
- [13:17 SLT] xstorm Radek: ok picking my self up now off the floor seeing what torley did type
- [13:17 SLT] xstorm Radek: *GIGGLES* :)Jeremy Linden 21:01, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
- [13:17 SLT] Torley Linden: for stuff that should NEVER be changed by customers (service & policy articles) we are using a "Linden Lab Official:" namespace to protect those.
- [13:17 SLT] Kate Linden: xstorm, the test articles are in the Knowledge Base category here: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Category:Knowledge_Base If you'd like to create a HUD or inworld tool that helps Residents check off read articles, or bookmarks them, that sounds awesome.
- [13:17 SLT] Biancaluce Robbiani: we are doing a lsls translation in italian now ... but many things need to be translated yet
- [13:17 SLT] Youri Ashton: doesnt matter if its a local busstop, a window, or wiki, its all vandalism and all very very low
- [13:18 SLT] Torley Linden: the good that has come out so far by many Volunteer contributions AND yes, translations (!) on the wiki has been tremendous, and we continue to look for more help, you can never have enough
- [13:18 SLT] Mojito Sorbet: There is an issue I keep running into, that is not covered much by orientation or by the KB that I have seen
- [13:18 SLT] Torley Linden: Mojito, please do explain! :)
- [13:18 SLT] Mojito Sorbet: Trouble is, it is not technical
- [13:18 SLT] Erinyse Planer: erm where do we apply again torley?
- [13:18 SLT] Mojito Sorbet: It is cultural.
- [13:18 SLT] Mojito Sorbet: How to not behave like an idiot
- [13:18 SLT] Mojito Sorbet: Dont "friend" people you have just met, etc
- [13:19 SLT] Taiki Henusaki: oh well, if it is for translation from ENglish to SPanish, I can help
- [13:19 SLT] Mojito Sorbet: Dont try to pick up every girl you run into
- [13:19 SLT] Torley Linden: good news! we have a special Wiki page for that, Mojito!
- [13:19 SLT] Sasy Scarborough: thats why calling cards are a godsend :)
- [13:19 SLT] Torley Linden: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Sletiquette
- [13:19 SLT] Mojito Sorbet: Ah great
- [13:19 SLT] Arawn Spitteler: Step One, behave like an idiot, this is to develop expertise; step two, see how badly others behave like idiots.
- [13:19 SLT] Torley Linden: feel free to link any other guides to there which haven't been covered... social skills have many subtle nuances and while they aren't mechanical processes, they are highly beneficial to learn from and adapt to
- [13:19 SLT] Torley Linden: Arawn, that sounds like something out of Idiocracy (great movie)
- [13:19 SLT] Mojito Sorbet: Hmm, that page is not loading
- [13:20 SLT] Sasy Scarborough chuckles
- [13:20 SLT] Mojito Sorbet: ok, got it
- [13:20 SLT] Youri Ashton: thanks torley, ill read when i have the time :)
- [13:20 SLT] Torley Linden: BRAWNDO! IT'S GOT ELECTROLYTES! THAT'S WHAT PLANTS CRAVE!
- [13:20 SLT] Erinyse Planer: troely wheres the link to get permission to alter the new wiki kb?
- [13:20 SLT] Arawn Spitteler: I don't think there is one
- [13:20 SLT] Erinyse Planer: *torley
- [13:20 SLT] Torley Linden: Eriynse, "Log in" in the upper-right of the wiki. use your usual Second Life name/pass.
- [13:20 SLT] Torley Linden: on http://wiki.secondlife.com :)
- [13:20 SLT] Biancaluce Robbiani: Torley did you remember that blog post someone made on the "30 things to know before enter SL?" we could have a page like that (modified
- [13:20 SLT] Biancaluce Robbiani: )
- [13:21 SLT] Taiki Henusaki: lol
- [13:21 SLT] Erinyse Planer: so theres not restrictions in place yet?
- [13:21 SLT] Torley Linden: i have seen several like that Biancaluce, if the one you're thinking of isn't linked to the SLetiquette page, then please do add it :-)
- [13:21 SLT] Jon Linden: FlaggedRevs isn't a system of "restrictions," Erinyse
- [13:21 SLT] Jon Linden: it's more of a way to review the content of a wiki page and display the most stable, accurate version
- [13:21 SLT] Qie Niangao: (http://sl4nowt.wordpress.com/2009/01/30/30-things-every-newbie-should-know-before-starting-second-life/ is linked)
- [13:21 SLT] Biancaluce Robbiani: ok I translated also in my blog in italian too .. it is neat and polite
- [13:22 SLT] Ellla McMahon: I have a Wiki Watchlist and email notifications .. I sometimes see this "You could also reset the notification flags for all your watched pages
- on your watchlist."
- [13:22 SLT] Erinyse Planer: tright but i thought there was a process for being able to become a reviewer etc.
- [13:22 SLT] Torley Linden: Erinyse, those and more details are on http://tr.im/kb2wiki :)
- [13:22 SLT] Ellla McMahon: what does that mean ?
- [13:22 SLT] Sasy Scarborough thinks Torley is a Wiki all on his own
- [13:22 SLT] Erinyse Planer cant access the tr.im domain
- [13:22 SLT] Jon Linden: what does what mean, Ella?
- [13:23 SLT] Qie Niangao: curious: do you really need more reviewers? is there that much volume of edits?
- [13:23 SLT] Youri Ashton: lol, a few Linden's were saying that as well sasy :p
- [13:23 SLT] Torley Linden: yes Qie, generally... there is NEVER a shortage of info to be organized and distributed. especially as Second Life grows.
- [13:23 SLT] Youri Ashton: all in the good way of course! :)
- [13:23 SLT] Qie Niangao: cool :)
- [13:23 SLT] Ellla McMahon: "reset the notification flags" does it just mean going through and making sure I still want to be notified ?
- [13:23 SLT] Qie Niangao: Erinyse, that tr.im just goes to http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/KB2Wiki_Pilot
- [13:24 SLT] Jeremy Linden: Right now, we only have a single folder from the existing Knowledge Base on the wiki... the job will get much bigger if and when we move in earnest. :-)
- [13:24 SLT] Erinyse Planer: ahh thanks qie
- [13:24 SLT] Qie Niangao: "if" ?
- [13:24 SLT] Torley Linden: Ellla, hmm! i wonder what makes that ecome up, i haven't seen that yet. do you know what might cause it? or does it appear sporadically?
- [13:24 SLT] Erinyse Planer: now that i can access. ty qie *smiles soft*
- [13:25 SLT] Ellla McMahon: it comes up at the bottom of email notifications .. the whole message is There will be no other notifications in case of further changes unless
- you visit this page.
- You could also reset the notification flags for all your watched pages
- on your watchlist.
- Your friendly Second Life Wiki notification system
- [13:26 SLT] Torley Linden: ah. i haven't tried it but it sounds like it should do what it says -- reset to default, in which case, you don't get watch notifications unless you choose to on each page?
- [13:26 SLT] Torley Linden: *checks if googling yields more clues*
- [13:26 SLT] Ellla McMahon: thank you .. thought it might ... means I need to recheck EVERY watched page
- [13:27 SLT] Youri Ashton: lots and lots of itailian residents, i wonder what reason got them here. *looks curious at the itailians* :)
- [13:27 SLT] Arawn Spitteler: I suppose there was a promo in Italy. We went through a phase of Magyar, aways back
- [13:27 SLT] Opensource Obscure: blame me - I'll Im you Youri : )
- [13:28 SLT] Youri Ashton: lol, oki open :p
- [13:28 SLT] Sasy Scarborough: Kate, I was wondering should we help get the Ask Kate rolling by submitting questions ourselves ? even if the answer is known, or just leave it be ?
- [13:28 SLT] Opensource Obscure: arawn - basically - i hold a weekly meeting in italian with tips & tricks about SL, at this same time and day. today we join you ; )
- [13:29 SLT] Youri Ashton: o0o, interresting :)
- [13:29 SLT] Kate Linden: Sasy, submitting questions to kick it off is a great idea. I can add one into the intro blog post today!
- [13:29 SLT] Sasy Scarborough: awesome :) thank you
- [13:30 SLT] Kate Linden: Thank you!
- [13:30 SLT] waelya Tenk: hello all!
- [13:30 SLT] Youri Ashton: hello :)
- [13:30 SLT] felice Yuitza: ciao
- [13:30 SLT] Kate Linden: Hello waelya, welcome to the Documentation Team office hour
- [13:30 SLT] Arawn Spitteler: Hi, Waelya
- [13:30 SLT] Erinyse Planer: what is that anouncement i keep hearing in the bg?
- [13:31 SLT] Jeremy Linden: I think that's ambient noise from Rodney's office.
- [13:31 SLT] Skills Hak: i blame rodney linden
- [13:31 SLT] Youri Ashton: its the black tower
- [13:31 SLT] Jeremy Linden: It caught me off guard a few weeks ago... I was all confused because we have voice disabled here :-)
- [13:31 SLT] Mojito Sorbet: Turn off voice and it goes away
- [13:31 SLT] Skills Hak: noits not voice x)
- [13:31 SLT] Erinyse Planer: ah. *eyes rodneys tower and considers dropping a note to ask him to restrict sounds to hsi parcel
- [13:32 SLT] Jeremy Linden: I don't think it's actually voice... It sounds like a recorded loop.
- [13:32 SLT] Youri Ashton: voice got disables months ago :)
- [13:32 SLT] Jeremy Linden also nods at the Dark Tower reference :-D
- [13:32 SLT] Skills Hak: it's rodney's minsilico heheh
- [13:32 SLT] Mojito Sorbet: My draw radius is only 25m, so I dont even see the tower.
- [13:32 SLT] Jon Linden: it's a great build
- [13:32 SLT] Skills Hak: ty x)
- [13:33 SLT] Skills Hak: i think its the only linden office with megaprims haha
- [13:33 SLT] Erinyse Planer: anyways i sent my app torely, though i had to rely soley on agenda edits cuase suually thats all ive done
- [13:33 SLT] Erinyse Planer: *usually
- [13:34 SLT] Youri Ashton: talking about builds, I been working on my castle again, just detail work basicly to do, then its finished :)
- [13:34 SLT] Youri Ashton: 1/4th sim, 1260+ prims
- [13:34 SLT] Sasy Scarborough: will people be able to remove from the wiki or only add ? I know that in the past you could completely take away previous information, not sure if that is still the case .
- [13:35 SLT] Arawn Spitteler: You can't take away from History, if I recall rightly
- [13:35 SLT] Skills Hak: will it be multi language?
- [13:35 SLT] Erinyse Planer: sasy i think being able to still take away would be important, though i believe it is all backed up
- [13:35 SLT] Jon Linden: you can make edits like you would to any other wiki -- stuff that's deleted is preserved in the history
- [13:35 SLT] Youri Ashton gave you BRP - TESTcastle003.
- [13:35 SLT] Youri Ashton: if anyone wanta pic, just im me for it
- [13:35 SLT] Sasy Scarborough: ah ok , thank you :)
- [13:36 SLT] Kate Linden: Skills, we are working with our Localization team about translation of KB articles.
- [13:36 SLT] Torley Linden: And every Wiki page can have a translated version.
- [13:36 SLT] Skills Hak: sounds great
- [13:36 SLT] Arawn Spitteler wonders how many volunteers have turned up, for th Klingon Translation.
- [13:36 SLT] Sasy Scarborough: lol
- [13:36 SLT] Torley Linden: and that's a big reason why we seek Reviewers with different knowledge specialties and languages.
- [13:36 SLT] Erinyse Planer: *shrugs* if im aproved to be a reviewer, one thing i intend to do is add to the wiki and link into the kb if im allowed a more updated and easier to understand jira guide
- [13:36 SLT] Arawn Spitteler: Enough People speak it, but would be prone to argue correct usage
- [13:37 SLT] Torley Linden: as you see on the front page of http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Main_Page there's a Language bar up top. that in itself was the formidable work of volunteers, both the design and content.
- [13:37 SLT] Arawn Spitteler: It's prbably more popular than Esperanto
- [13:37 SLT] Mojito Sorbet: Certain Lindens who do not install the fonts will never be able to read it.
- [13:37 SLT] Skills Hak: hehehe
- [13:38 SLT] Sasy Scarborough: :)
- [13:38 SLT] Erinyse Planer: if they do the klingong translation they have to do romulan, bajorian, and vulcan as well!
- [13:38 SLT] Jeremy Linden: Erinyse, even as a regular Resident you have the ability to create and edit wiki pages. The only thing that's changed is that we're adding a review process to pages that have been changed.
- [13:38 SLT] Techwolf Lupindo waits for avatars to rez...
- [13:38 SLT] Erinyse Planer: yes but not much point if i cant review them and throw em up though
- [13:39 SLT] Erinyse Planer: or sync them with the kb so the errors or out of date stuff in the kb (of which there is surprisingly allot) get corrected
- [13:39 SLT] Youri Ashton: oops, crashhhh
- [13:39 SLT] Jeremy Linden: Why is that? They'll still be visible to anyone who looks for them; they just won't be marked as the "stable version".
- [13:39 SLT] Biancaluce Robbiani: There are also Style Guides to help have the correct approach when translating existing pages
- [13:40 SLT] Jon Linden: erinyse, if our plan goes through, the KB articles on the wiki will BE the KB
- [13:40 SLT] Erinyse Planer: i know jon
- [13:40 SLT] Erinyse Planer: *Shrugs*
- [13:40 SLT] Jon Linden: so there'll be no need to "sync" them with any other source
- [13:40 SLT] Skills Hak: what will happen to support tickets?
- [13:40 SLT] Jon Linden: any changes anyone wants to make can be made to the articles themselves, directly
- [13:40 SLT] Erinyse Planer: thats why ild like to be a reviewer though cuase they are still in soemthings out of date
- [13:40 SLT] Arawn Spitteler: They should have some sync with Jira, but that can largely be done by hand
- [13:40 SLT] Skills Hak: as its in the same part of the site apparently
- [13:41 SLT] Jon Linden: skills, support tickets will not go away
- [13:41 SLT] Jon Linden: how horrible would that be!
- [13:41 SLT] Skills Hak: haha ofc
- [13:41 SLT] Skills Hak: but it seems to be using the same tech as the kb
- [13:42 SLT] Torley Linden: By the way... we started updating the front page of the Knowledge Base ( http://secondlife.com/kb ) with a featured article of the moment. Obviously right now, age verification is a hot topic. If you have suggestions, including about stuff your friends have been bringing up a lot in conversation, please let us know.
- [13:42 SLT] Jon Linden: we haven't finalized the full transition plan, skills, but it'll probably be as simple as deactivating some folders
- [13:42 SLT] Jon Linden: the functionality will still be there, we just won't use it
- [13:42 SLT] Erinyse Planer: who knows skills maybe with all the new kb stuff we could create a page for linden eyes only : outstanding support tickets that needed fixed last year!" >.>
- [13:42 SLT] Jon Linden: and all of the info will live on the wiki
- [13:42 SLT] Torley Linden: That's good thinking Skills — stuff we were just discussing earlier about making the transition.
- [13:42 SLT] Skills Hak: coolies
- [13:42 SLT] xstorm Radek: OMG!! will there people that are 40 years and older get in ?
- [13:43 SLT] Youri Ashton: there are a lot that dont even try to understand LL's side of the story torley, you really want to get that topic heated up agian?
- [13:43 SLT] Torley Linden: How's Insilico doing, Skills? I had such a good time at the Blue Ant but haven't visited in awhile. Love the cyberpunk vibe, tho.
- [13:43 SLT] Qie Niangao: xstorm: like, with walkers 'n' stuff?
- [13:43 SLT] Biancaluce Robbiani: a need is an explanation on how premium accounts work... many new residents don't really have a clue of that and of the advantages
- [13:43 SLT] Skills Hak: oh i hardly go there lately, its too much work x)
- [13:43 SLT] Skills Hak: im working on viewers atm
- [13:43 SLT] Erinyse Planer thinks the over 60 crowd need thier own grid *nods*
- [13:43 SLT] Sasy Scarborough: i love being premium :) im 2006 you pay me :P
- [13:43 SLT] xstorm Radek: qie no picking on older people
- [13:43 SLT] Torley Linden: Biancaluce, what could be better explained here? http://secondlife.com/whatis/plans.php
- [13:44 SLT] Youri Ashton: insilco? i know that name sounded vermilliar skills!
- [13:44 SLT] waelya Tenk: i agree with Biancaluce
- [13:44 SLT] Biancaluce Robbiani: Hi sSAsy :)))
- [13:44 SLT] Skills Hak: but its doing fine of course :) ty
- [13:44 SLT] Sasy Scarborough: hi Bieancaluce :)
- [13:44 SLT] Youri Ashton: i boughed that railgun last week from you
- [13:44 SLT] Sasy Scarborough: -e
- [13:44 SLT] Torley Linden: By the way, I believe that Premium info page should become more visible/attractive in a future site redesign.
- [13:44 SLT] Biancaluce Robbiani: yep
- [13:44 SLT] Sasy Scarborough agrees
- [13:44 SLT] waelya Tenk: agrees again
- [13:44 SLT] xstorm Radek: yes yes please
- [13:44 SLT] Torley Linden: Good to know, Skills. It always took me awhile to load but worth it for the atmosphere. You know Vangelis' music and the Deus Ex soundtrack? (I know we were listening to DnB earlier.)
- [13:45 SLT] Skills Hak: i think so yes, blade runner theme?
- [13:45 SLT] Torley Linden: Sasy, good memory on that!
- [13:45 SLT] Torley Linden: Skills, yes, exactly. Such signature sounds, I love that.
- [13:45 SLT] Youri Ashton: the one you played on youtube torley? ow i love it! hoep you will add that to your music reportoir soon :)
- [13:46 SLT] Sasy Scarborough: i think more pro info about sl needs to be front facing, im tired of the negative as im sure many are
- [13:46 SLT] Torley Linden: Youri, that's the one — the end titles — it has such a great melody. I hope we'll have more environmental audio in Second Life.
- [13:46 SLT] Youri Ashton: agreed sasy
- [13:47 SLT] Erinyse Planer: disagreed sasy. i think the pro and con should be equally fronted
- [13:47 SLT] Torley Linden: Sasy, what specific pro info? Various Lindens have been blogging about case studies and positive stories but I know we can never have enough.
- [13:47 SLT] Sasy Scarborough: thats my point Erinyse it isnt equal
- [13:47 SLT] Youri Ashton: Torley: I hope you are willing to add that one to your website, sure would love to have that one!
- [13:47 SLT] Erinyse Planer: i would argue that too much pro is still fronted.
- [13:47 SLT] Erinyse Planer shrugs
- [13:47 SLT] sensory Hax greetings all go rl
- [13:47 SLT] Torley Linden: Youri, as an MP3? I don't plan to perform it again but there are ways to download YouTube videos into MP3s. :)
- [13:48 SLT] Torley Linden: I know many Residents have requested more Lindens to stand out, which is why we've had a Customer Relations series introducing more Lindens.
- [13:48 SLT] panelope Vella: bye bye and thanks to all for the info!
- [13:48 SLT] Skills Hak: its going to be hard work for wiki moderators with all that unconstructive bawww from pessimistic resis
- [13:48 SLT] Kate Linden: Thanks for joining us today Penelope
- [13:48 SLT] Jon Linden: so far, there hasn't been much of that, Skills
- [13:48 SLT] Sasy Scarborough: premium accounts, content creation, i dont know, everything
- [13:48 SLT] Youri Ashton: lol, aww, to bad torley. you made it sound even better then the orriginal already was. know already about deusex 3 coming btw? looks great so far!
- [13:48 SLT] Erinyse Planer would like to see a really good self critique by each of the major divisions of LL on the blogs. honest upfront with both the good and the bad
- [13:49 SLT] Youri Ashton: hey tech :)
- [13:49 SLT] Ando Karu: Hello
- [13:49 SLT] hayd Adder: hey
- [13:49 SLT] Torley Linden: Erinyse, obviously you've missed a number of posts where we quite transparent about that.
- [13:49 SLT] Mark84 Guisse: Halllooooo
- [13:49 SLT] Mark84 Guisse: hayd
- [13:49 SLT] Erinyse Planer: i think we disagree on how transparent LL is torley
- [13:49 SLT] Torley Linden: Youri, I am terribly excited about that.
- [13:49 SLT] Erinyse Planer smiles sadly
- [13:49 SLT] Sasy Scarborough: 90
- [13:49 SLT] Sasy Scarborough chuckles
- [13:49 SLT] hayd Adder: ello
- [13:50 SLT] Arawn Spitteler: Too transparent is never enough
- [13:50 SLT] Torley Linden: The first Deus Ex game was responsible in part for getting me into Second Life.
- [13:50 SLT] Torley Linden: I originally came in here looking for cyberpunk-style RPG.
- [13:50 SLT] Youri Ashton: as am i torley! if it has a co-ops, we should play it together ;)
- [13:50 SLT] Sasy Scarborough: i came to salsa :)
- [13:50 SLT] Torley Linden: I found out about Nexus Prime through New World Notes, and started to expand my horizons. Sasy, do you salsa dance in first life too?
- [13:50 SLT] Youri Ashton: just hope ATI has their drivers sorted with that time tho
- [13:51 SLT] Sasy Scarborough: nope but my friend showed me SL on his webcam, and he was dancing at the old transylvania so when my pc died i went shopping with SL requirements in hand :)
- [13:51 SLT] Kate Linden: I love hearing stories about why people joined Second Life.
- [13:51 SLT] Torley Linden: I find it really intriguing to see what elements/atmospheres from other games and environments people bring into Second Life. Like the different folks who made a Sims-style plumb bomb. Or crates that look like Half-Life's.
- [13:51 SLT] Torley Linden: Me too, Kate!
- [13:51 SLT] Torley Linden: Er, plumb BOB.
- [13:51 SLT] Qie Niangao: (just scanning through this Style Guide. Some really good stuff in there... e.g., "Terminology"... would be good for the Second Life Answers channel, and for the Forums.)
- [13:52 SLT] waelya Tenk: i was waiting 3 months to save money to go shop to buy pc with second life requiriments...
- [13:52 SLT] Techwolf Lupindo: I've built my new computer with SL in mind. High end graphic card and LOTS of memory for the resorce hog. :-)
- [13:52 SLT] Torley Linden: Qie, yup. Some of the info's already out there but needs to be promoted more. From word-of-mouth and Linden announcements. I abhor when there's cool stuff but it's hard to find.
- [13:52 SLT] Erinyse Planer: theres some really good stg game based sims (differant form the movie/shwo based ones) and ive seen someone trying to make a sim based upon the rapellz mmorpg
- [13:52 SLT] Youri Ashton: perhaps a good thing to have on the knowlage base, as extra info on each person on SL (if they want to add that) sure would give a great amount of interresting information!
- [13:53 SLT] Torley Linden: Cool, Techwolf — hope it does ya well. How much memory? (And if over 3GB, are you running Windows 64-bit?)
- [13:53 SLT] Biancaluce Robbiani: Yeah we put also the translation aspect in them Qie... like decimal use, titles, day names etc
- [13:53 SLT] Torley Linden: Some of the biggest knowledge gaps are the most basic and take a few minutes to correct.
- [13:53 SLT] Techwolf Lupindo: 8Gigs, 64 bit client on 64 bit Linux OS>
- [13:53 SLT] Torley Linden: Sounds like you're savvy about what you want, Techwolf.
- [13:53 SLT] Erinyse Planer: youri the problem with that is depending on the information posted that would be akin to invasion of privacy
- [13:53 SLT] Techwolf Lupindo: :-)
- [13:53 SLT] Mojito Sorbet: Dont scrimp on the coolers
- [13:54 SLT] Youri Ashton: 4gigs, 64bit, vista, 3870X2 :)
- [13:54 SLT] Youri Ashton: dont forget just over 2TB on harddrive space :)
- [13:54 SLT] Qie Niangao: oh yes, Biancaluce, the wiki translation info was a huge help when I set up my SL6B build for multiple languages. that language bar alone is great stuff.
- [13:55 SLT] Mojito Sorbet wonders how much disk space is needed to cache everywhere she has ever been...
- [13:55 SLT] Torley Linden: What I like about the wiki stuff is it's really an in-the-moment, do-it-yourself ethos: spot an error? Take a few seconds or minutes to correct it so you and others don't trip over it in the future.
- [13:55 SLT] Sasy Scarborough: oo a wiki page of people willing to help translate woudl be an awesome page and help
- [13:55 SLT] Biancaluce Robbiani: Coming back to ATI will they fix VBO artifacts with the next drivers release?
- [13:55 SLT] Torley Linden: Mojito, well, Second Life limits disk cache. And having too big a cache probably gets fractured and offsets the retrieval time.
- [13:55 SLT] Sasy Scarborough: in woerld i mean, people willing to get a random IM from people needing to understand a customer or whatever
- [13:55 SLT] Sasy Scarborough: world*
- [13:56 SLT] Torley Linden: I don't know about those, Biancaluce. In the past our devs have reached out directly to ATI, NVIDIA, Apple, etc. to get driver bugs sorted out.
- [13:56 SLT] Sasy Scarborough: would that be allowed ? as a Wiki page ?
- [13:56 SLT] Torley Linden: Sasy, there may be a list like that, I think. And yeah, you can create just about anything (beneficial) on the wiki.
- [13:56 SLT] Erinyse Planer likes that idea sasy. but only if people add remove themselves
- [13:56 SLT] Skills Hak: 1.23 is much better with ati now as its using opengl 3
- [13:56 SLT] Sasy Scarborough: right
- [13:57 SLT] Biancaluce Robbiani: Zen posted Jira he was waiting for Ati fixing these days... hope so
- [13:57 SLT] Skills Hak: anyway i gotta run see you guys :)
- [13:57 SLT] Torley Linden: Zen's great. I like his monk avatar too. :)
- [13:57 SLT] Torley Linden: Take care Skills, glad you could join us!
- [13:57 SLT] Sasy Scarborough: but it could be blogged etc that the page existed :)
- [13:57 SLT] Erinyse Planer: zen is very intresting *nods*
- [13:57 SLT] Sasy Scarborough: bye Skills
- [13:57 SLT] Youri Ashton: aight, im off to a hellen keller day meeting :)
- [13:57 SLT] Torley Linden: The wiki is acting slowly right now — we're keeping an eye out for instances of those.
- [13:57 SLT] Erinyse Planer: though i dont reccamend peaking under his robes
- [13:57 SLT] Youri Ashton: bye bye all, thanks for the meeting doc team!
- [13:58 SLT] Kate Linden: Nice to see you Skills
- [13:58 SLT] Torley Linden: Youri, I thought HKD was awhile ago? Is this a followup? Thanks for coming!
- [13:58 SLT] Kate Linden: Youri, thanks for joining us!
- [13:58 SLT] Youri Ashton: we still working :)
- [13:58 SLT] Biancaluce Robbiani: Ciao ◕ ‿ ◕ Ciao
- [13:58 SLT] Biancaluce Robbiani: Skill
- [13:58 SLT] Torley Linden: Haha, that's a great face! Looks like little pie charts.
- [13:58 SLT] Youri Ashton: we having a meeting now to talk about what happened and what we gonne do next year
- [13:58 SLT] Jon Linden: everybody have an excellent rest of the week! thanks for coming by!
- [13:58 SLT] Torley Linden: Wiki pages are also really useful for extended profiles, if you can get it to load (it's not for me at the moment), http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Malwina_Dollinger
- [13:58 SLT] Arawn Spitteler: The Calendar isn't in braille, yet, and somebody moved the dates around.
- [13:58 SLT] Sasy Scarborough: thank you so much Jon, Kate and Torley , and everyone else :)
- [13:59 SLT] Torley Linden: =D
- [13:59 SLT] Youri Ashton: perhaps even find a suitable date for that meeting i was talkinga bout last week
