User talk:Torley Linden
Hi Torley. I wonder if you might review the continuing argument over the content of Second Life Railroad and (most if not all) related pages? The argument is both ugly to look at and feel (if you catch my drift). I can't see either side giving in so the ugly will probably just get uglier. Couldn't think who better than Jupiter (Bringer of Jollity) (You) to bring this to the attention of. -- Fred Gandt (talk|contribs) 02:18, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
- Me being one of the "guilty" parties there... lol. Anyway. We (Virtual railway Consortium) setup some wiki pages as neutral as possible from our point of view with the info available to us. We welcome the other party to edit the page. The only think I will stop him from doing is to discredit the VRC or it's members in public. I am trying to play nice. But man, is that ever so hard at the moment. --Stryker J 10:28, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
- I hear Holst! ;D Thanks for the heads-up, I posted on Talk:Second_Life_Railroad. Relevant link lists are fine. - on 2010-09-01 @ 5:00 AM Pacific
- Looking at the answer you gave on the SLRR main info page you may not have seen the SLRR History page and the 'talk' going on there. Sort of the same but much more intense. --Stryker J 12:19, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

Thanks Torley. And yes, Holst. Love that stuff. The Planets, Mahler's Symphony No.8 and Wagner's Ring Cycle (the full 16 hours!) are 3 (top of the list) pieces I would love to see live someday. Actually I'd have to add Elgar's Enigma Variations to that list too (it would be a very long list).
- Anyhoo...TY-- Fred Gandt (talk|contribs) 14:59, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
- And the fun continues... grumpff... please take an other look at Talk:Second Life Railroad. I resent having my group being called "vrc/mole group". Some LDPW moles are part of the membership on a voluntary basis. That does NOT make us a Mole group. I resent even more that I am accused of "propaganda" and "victimization" of people inside and outside the VRC membership! That really makes me sick. That is typically what I am struggling with for months now. Hope you are willing to take one last look at this and do something with it... even if it means deleting the page. Yours Truly (in tears) --Stryker J 11:22, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
KB Article Correction
The KB article at Viewer 2 Moves incorrectly describes Clear Cache. To clear cache in Viewer 2, you use the Clear History button (same button you use for clearing browser history also clears the web and texture cache). The Reset button described, is for resetting the cache location back to the Second Life default location (though it will also clear cache if you have actually moved your cache location and are moving it back to default). Extension request
Hi, how would I go by requesting an extention to be added to the wiki, or is it even allowed? --(talk) 19:40, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
- For a name like that, you have a pretty signature. Feel free to request here — we don't get many requests and can't guarantee we'll include it, but if it could be broadly useful, it's worth knowing about. - on 2010-06-01 @ 12:47 PM Pacific
- I thought it would be simple to have this [1] to replace certain strings globally for lindens use, but lindens can get requests for it.
--(talk) 21:43, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
- Good news! As shown on Special:Version we have that installed. Did you have a string replacement request? - on 2010-06-01 @ 2:53 PM Pacific
oh wow didn't know that page was there. Also not at the moment no, but abit ago I had to edit 10+ pages to change 1 word, so thought it would be a good extension. --(talk) 22:04, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
Redirect delete?
Any chance you could delete this redirect? A few templates look at the existence of that page as evidence for whether or not the meeting happened. Also, is there anywhere else to go for these sorts of things in the future? (I was looking for a non-Linden but there doesn't seem to be any non-Linden admins... :P ) Celierra Darling 19:49, 10 May 2010 (UTC)
- Yes. Deleted. I don't know who else could really help but I've done lots of this so if you can batch up a list of these requests and add them here, or contact me via email, that'd be awesome. Thanks and good to hear from ya! - on 2010-05-10 @ 2:40 PM Pacific
- There's a Template:Delete with a connected category named Category:Suggested For Deletion, though it's not yet monitored by Lindens. Maybe you can jump in? :)

Triage was canceled again, so now this page needs deleting, Thanks --Harleen Gretzky 05:01, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
- Would it not make more sense for the records to have a simple note on triage pages (when they don't happen as planned) describing that it was a non event, rather than having an unexplained hole in the records? No particular bother to me one way or the other. -- Fred Gandt (talk|contribs) 09:04, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
- Observant point, Fred. From experience I prefer stating a non-event, too. It's more specific. Harleen, what do you think? - on 2010-05-19 @ 7:20 AM Pacific
- The problem is some pages depend on the non-existence of the page, like Bug Triage. When a page is created before it is known that the event is cancelled, the page is then moved to next week. This causes a redirect page to be automatically created to point the non-event date to the new date. But the bug triage page then lists the new date and the old date (which just redirects to the new date). Now if Template:Last Triage can be modified to detect the non-events somehow that might work. Example - 12:00 PM (noon) PDT 2010-05-24 Hippotropolis Meeting area 2010-05-17, here the link for 2010-05-17 redirects to the 2010-05-24 page, so both links display the same page. --Harleen Gretzky 23:49, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
- I'm currently not aware of an easy way on how to mod Template:LastTriage to check for cancelled events. However, it would be fairly easy when WEB-1579 would be deployed. I spoke with Yoz a couple of days ago and he said he'd consider it and relay it for a security check. It might get live in about a month or two... Maybe faster, when someone else could make a code review as well (it's a custom extension). -- (talk|contribs) 02:22, 20 May 2010 (UTC)

Wufoo form question
Hi Torley
Zai suggested to bring this up here on your discussion page, as you'd know who would be responsible. So could you have a look at Where to file Policy Change Requests?, please? Thanks! --Boroondas Gupte 13:55, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
- Glad you asked. Yes, we can clarify this. I'll create an article and link from the form. - on 2010-03-29 @ 5:33 AM Pacific
Region table
Heyas :-)
I just noticed that this table is embedded in 3 LLO articles and should therefor probably be protected...-- (talk|contribs) 22:41, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
- You caught me at the right moment! It should be, and is now. THANKS. - Torley on 2009-11-18 @ 2:43 PM PST
- Welcome! :-)
- One more that should probably go through the form thingy but since I'm trying to fix the localized versions:
- In Linden Lab Official:Buying land in the Land Store there's a link to Homestead in #4, that's actually linking to the void sim article. I think it should go to Linden Lab Official:About Homesteads.
- -- (talk|contribs) 23:09, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
- I'll take this too. Letting me know of quickies here is just fine, saves time for both of us. If you notice a whole bunch of stuff, you know what to do with sending a batch! I prefer those because I can work intensely on related items in a list.
- And I just added a sig image link because I noticed you did yours! - on 2009-11-18 @ 3:33 PM Pacific
- Hehe ^_^ you should try to toy around with that signature setting in preferences, tho it doesn't like templates, unfortunatly :-/
- It substitutes templates with the underlaying code. That can be changed in the MediaWiki settings but is switched on by default since there is some policy in the English Wikipedia about templates in signatures.
- At batches: Ah okies :-) will try to sum up fixes before submitting :-)
- Cyas! -- (talk|contribs) 23:38, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
- Speaking of regions... I'm looking at the math used at Linden_Lab_Official:Homestead_FAQ#What's the policy for converting up an Openspace region to a Homestead region, a Homestead region to a Full region, or an Openspace region to a Full region? and it appears that if I convert 3 homestead regions into a single full region, LL would owe me $25
($1000 - ($375 + $375 + $375 ) + $100 = -$25
. This can't be correct... can it? -- Strife (talk|contribs) 22:08, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
Saw this...
Saw this made you this. -- Strife (talk|contribs) 07:41, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Inworld policy on bots
Hi Torley, I´m translating this article (CT-538) and in the section "How will this be enforced" it says "This time next week we will begin to routinely look at the Search results and where we find clear use of Bots to gain an unfair Search advantage we will be handling it as an abuse issue." Now I´m wondering if I should translate it like "We have begun to routinely..." or if I should just leave it as is as it is citing from the blog... --Torben Trautman 18:11, 2 November 2009 (UTC)
Also I was wondering about this part: "Going forward we are going to look at ways to allow you to voluntarily identify to us that an account is a Bot, so that we can remove it from Traffic completely." I guess I´ll just leave everything as is and we update the article once it´s up to date? --Torben Trautman 18:24, 2 November 2009 (UTC)
- Hey Torben! I haven't personally checked the specific status of what's happening with bot enforcement, but yes, it's generally best to word things in present tense to bring them up-to-date. - Torley on 2009-11-02 @ 10:51 AM PST
reviewer status
Torley, I was wondering why my status as a reviewer was removed? Not sure if this is related to what happened earlier today but any insight either from you or Alexa would be appreciated. GW (T|C) -- 01:41, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
- I've emailed you about this. - Torley on 2009-10-28 @ 8:06 AM PST
2 weird articles
Heyas! Me again :-)
Just stumbled about these two articles which feature the exact same content and which titles are wacko o.O. Can you fix?
-- (talk|contribs) 17:31, 14 October 2009 (UTC)
- Oh yeah! Keep adding any more you find right here, I'll be refreshing my talk page later after I get through your first (email) list... THANXARAMA. - Torley on 2009-10-14 @ 10:35 AM PST
- OK, am done Fixing all micro formatting flaws (that I could find) in main namespace KB articles.
- Not much but here's what I found, noted and didn't correct on my own but here's what I remember right now:
- What is an avatar key? is same as What is a UUID?. Should be "an" UUID anyway, or?
- Three images in Tips and Tricks: Better Building with Primfficiency! aren't working (weren't working in Parature either).
- Also, the Style Guide mentions that the first appearance of trademarked terms should have their related trademark symbols. Template:Seal contains the terms "Second Life" and "Linden Lab". Would be clever to add ® there, then we won't have to manually fix it in each article for the actual content.
- Maybe a link to the Community Translation Project would be a good idea in there. We're having no obvious link where people are encouraged to translate articles (would be of great benefit for the CT Project.
- (talk|contribs) 18:28, 14 October 2009 (UTC)
- What a journey it's been! Fixed those and added notes where necessary. "Would be clever..." is VERY CLEVER INDEED! I'll let the list know (for this and other localization tasks that are related to KB work but not in the Doc Team's direct responsibilities). Also, I want to promote CTP more but need to get Noelle & Team's approval. So let's wait on them. - Torley on 2009-10-14 @ 4:01 PM PST
- Heyas :-)
- Yeah, was an awesome editing rampage you had there! It pushed you up to #3 ^_^
- Alerted by an edit of JamesG Comsys, I noticed that there are three articles currently linking to a non-existend Concierge Support contact information article. These are:
- I guess Concierge Support contact information might be one of the articles that should still be in Parature, since LL only makes these available to people with the right account status. So the blank Wiki article would best be removed and the LLO article links updated to point back to parature.
- -- (talk|contribs) 17:06, 19 October 2009 (UTC)
- Good gosh, I can't have anyone thinking I'm slacking off here. ;) Thanx re: those Concierge articles, my able colleagues are inspecting that now. - Torley on 2009-10-19 @ 10:10 AM PST
Templates
Heyas :-)
To remarks about templates. One is related to the Template:Navbox subpages. I think, rather than using templates inside a navbox, it would be better to use a navbox inside a template. The advantages are: More freedom to change the appearance and less to type when you want to include it in an article.
So instead of
{{Navbox |title={{Navbox/Adult-title}} |content={{Navbox/Adult}} }}
You'd create one Template:Adult Navbox and then use a {{Navbox|title=something|content=something else}} inside of it. You'd just have to add {{Adult Navbox}} to articles (looks cleaner) and you can style changes in the Adult Navbox without having to change the Navbox template (or all articles using it).
Another thing: some tags don't like wikicode as an argument. They don't interpret it as wikicode. <videoflash>, <lsl> and <pre> belong to these. They need to be treated with a {{#tag|parameter|argument1=value1|argument2=value2}} kind of setup, see the one on the bottom here. I changed it for Template:KBvideo.
cu :-) -- (talk|contribs) 18:47, 12 October 2009 (UTC)
P.S: After I realized that "greets" isn't a proper way to say "sincerly yours" in a less formal way in English, I'm in the dilemma of lacking a flowery phrase to end my mails and comments :-/ ^^
- Hey Zai! I thought about "it would be better to use a navbox inside a template" too. But here's the problem: then what happens if I want to change the UNIVERSAL STYLE of all those navboxes? Or, what if I just want to include the article listing WITHOUT the box, as on Category:Adult? Anyway, we're still in the early stages here, so if this ends up being awkward, it surely will be replaced by a better way. That's evolution.
- I'll check Template:KBvideo soon and appreciate your attention to detail.
- "Greets" or "Cheers" is cool with me... heck, invent your unique own! - Torley on 2009-10-12 @ 11:57 AM PST
- I thought this through some more (nested templates demand nested logic!) and now clearly understand the Template:Navbox benefits you're pointing out to me! I also misunderstood how styles get applied, so ignore my "UNIVERSAL STYLE" question. I'm going to make your suggested superior change to the "Adult" and "Xstreet" ones shortly. Good to catch this early! - Torley on 2009-10-12 @ 12:39 PM PST

Can you fix a kinda embarassing word choice error of mine that got archived please?
a while ago, I was under the mistaken impression that the slang "bollocks" could be used in the same way as the slangs "damn" and "crap", though more recently I've read it is supposed to be used for a different meaning, would it be possible to replace the instance of that slang that got archived with the last version of my comment about my first link the Joss Stone video with your colortheme having become invalid, with "balls" please? PNGs
Note! OptiPNG FTW! | |
A Resident has noticed you've been uploading PNG images lately. Please consider using a lossless recompression tool such as OptiPNG to reduce the file size without compromising on quality. Alternatively, consider uploading the PNG images as JPEGs! |
A vidtut on how to use OptiPNG can be viewed on Template:OptiPNG FTW!
- Please point me to any problematic images. I sometimes upload large screenshots but have them dynamically resized by MediaWiki into smaller JPGs, so the original PNG isn't shown in the page, anyway. - Torley on 2009-05-06 @ 6:00 AM PST

- They're gone ;_;
- I found em when I searched for ban (I'm trying to populate wiki articles with KB article links) and they showed up in the search although not related... Although they're from 2007, there were hardly people who looked at them (had 20 page views before I spread the link via twitter...). I then tried to find others by manually adding KB ID's at the end of the link but with no success so far.
