When I search for "Clean Install" I'm getting redirected to an unrelated KB article.
I'm having to explain to an old user that wants to step over to the new (...) viewer how to do a clean install and how to set UDP. Since HTTP and old settings prevent people from stepping over from 1.23 to the new ones.

== Very nice "How to search" video on the jira ==
Just hope people actually watch it before searching. I think the biggest problem resulting in dupes on an epic scale is panic (clearly not enough ppl have heard of "The Hitchhikers Guide to The Galaxy"). "I'm a cloud!" is so popular it could have it's own database. Of course it's understandable that ppl are freaked out and feel depersonalized. Thus the panic sets in and they just want help. Big button marked "Create Issue" and jobs-a-gooden (as we say in blighty (now and then)). Searching first brings up such a daunting list of matches that I assume ppl just think something like "This is a special case" (because to them it is). Dupe fest ensues.
:On an unrelated note. I love your latest (I think it's your latest) album "Dream Journal 2". I mean it. It's excellent. I love the fact I can leave it on repeat without any continuity errors. == [[Second Life Railroad]] and related pages ==
Hi Torley. I wonder if you might review the continuing argument over the content of [[Second Life Railroad]] and (most if not all) related pages? The argument is both ugly to look at and feel (if you catch my drift). I can't see either ''side'' giving in so the ugly will probably just get uglier. Couldn't think who better than Jupiter (Bringer of Jollity) (You) to bring this to the attention of. -- '''[[User:Fred_Gandt|Fred Gandt]]''' <small>([[User talk:Fred_Gandt|talk]]|[[Special:Contributions/Fred_Gandt|contribs]])</small> 02:18, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
: Me being one of the "guilty" parties there... lol. Anyway. We (Virtual railway Consortium) setup some wiki pages as neutral as possible from our point of view with the info available to us. We welcome the other party to edit the page. The only think I will stop him from doing is to discredit the VRC or it's members in public. I am trying to play nice. : And the fun continues... grumpff... please take an other look at [http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Talk:Second_Life_Railroad Talk:Second Life Railroad]. I resent having my group being called "vrc/mole group". Some LDPW moles are part of the membership on a voluntary basis. That does NOT make us a Mole group. I resent even more that I am accused of "propaganda" and "victimization" of people inside and outside the VRC membership! That really makes me sick. The KB article at [[Viewer 2 Moves]] incorrectly describes [[Viewer 2 Moves#Clear Cache|Clear Cache]]. To clear cache in Viewer 2, you use the Clear History button (same button you use for clearing browser history also clears the web and texture cache). The Reset button described, is for resetting the cache location back to the Second Life default location (though it will also clear cache if you have actually moved your cache location and are moving it back to default). == Redirect delete? ==
Any chance you could delete [https://wiki.secondlife.com/w/index.php?title=Bug_triage/2010-05-10&redirect=no this redirect]? A few templates look at the existence of that page as evidence for whether or not the meeting happened. Also, is there anywhere else to go for these sorts of things in the future? :Would it not make more sense for the records to have a simple note on triage pages (when they don't happen as planned) describing that it was a non event, rather than having an unexplained hole in the records? No particular bother to me one way or the other. -- '''[[User:Fred_Gandt|Fred Gandt]]''' <small>([[User talk:Fred_Gandt|talk]]|[[Special:Contributions/Fred_Gandt|contribs]])</small> 09:04, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
:: Observant point, Fred. From experience I prefer stating a non-event, too. It's more specific. Harleen, what do you think? {{TorSig}} <font size="1">on 2010-05-19 @ 7:20 AM Pacific</font>
::: The problem is some pages depend on the non-existence of the page, like [https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Bug_triage Bug Triage]. When a page is created before it is known that the event is cancelled, the page is then moved to next week. This causes a redirect page to be automatically created to point the non-event date to the new date. But the bug triage page then lists the new date and the old date (which just redirects to the new date). Now if Template:Last Triage can be modified to detect the non-events somehow that might work. Example - 12:00 PM (noon) PDT [https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Bug_triage/2010-05-24 2010-05-24] Hippotropolis Meeting area [https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Bug_triage/2010-05-17 2010-05-17], here the link for 2010-05-17 redirects to the 2010-05-24 page, so both links display the same page. --[[User:Harleen Gretzky|Harleen Gretzky]] 23:49, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
:::: I'm currently not aware of an easy way on how to mod [[Template:LastTriage]] to check for cancelled events. However, it would be fairly easy when {{JIRA|WEB-1579}} would be deployed. I spoke with Yoz a couple of days ago and he said he'd consider it and relay it for a security check. It might get live in about a month or two... Maybe faster, when someone else could make a code review as well (it's a custom extension). --[[File:Zai_signature.png|45px|link=User:Zai Lynch]] <small>([[User talk:Zai Lynch|talk]]|[[Special:Contributions/Zai Lynch|contribs]])</small> 02:22, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
::::: I wasn't aware of that context, so for now, I'll delete this particular triage redirect — and hope there's a better template in the future. {{TorSig}} <font size="1">on 2010-05-20 @ 7:44 AM Pacific</font>

:Yeah, was an awesome editing rampage you had there! It [[User:Zai_Lynch/Wiki_Spammer_Ranking|pushed you up to #3]] ^_^
:Alerted by an edit of [[User:JamesG Comsys|JamesG Comsys]], I noticed that there are three articles currently linking to a non-existend [[Concierge Support contact information]] article. These are:
:* [[Linden Lab Official:Private Region (Island) Transfer Process]]
:* [[Linden Lab Official:What's Concierge service and how do I get it?]]
:* [[Linden Lab Official:What are the different levels of account membership?]]
:I guess [[Concierge Support contact information]] might be one of the articles that should still be in Parature, since LL only makes these available to people with the right account status. So the blank Wiki article would best be removed and the LLO article links updated to point back to parature.

== Templates == | |||
Heyas :-)<br> | |||
To remarks about templates. One is related to the [[Template:Navbox]] subpages. I think, rather than using templates inside a navbox, it would be better to use a navbox inside a template. The advantages are: More freedom to change the appearance and less to type when you want to include it in an article. <br>
So instead of | |||
<pre> | |||
{{Navbox | |||
|title={{Navbox/Adult-title}} | |||
|content={{Navbox/Adult}} | |||
}}</pre> | |||
You'd create one [[Template:Adult Navbox]] and then use a <nowiki>{{</nowiki>Navbox|title=something|content=something else}} inside of it. You'd just have to add <nowiki>{{</nowiki>Adult Navbox}} to articles (looks cleaner) and you can style changes in the Adult Navbox without having to change the Navbox template (or all articles using it).
Another thing: some tags don't like wikicode as an argument. They don't interpret it as wikicode. <nowiki><videoflash>, <lsl> and <pre></nowiki> belong to these. They need to be treated with a <nowiki>{{</nowiki>#tag|parameter|argument1=value1|argument2=value2}} kind of setup, see [http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Magic_words#Formatting the one on the bottom here]. I changed it for [[Template:KBvideo]].
cu :-) --[[File:Zai_signature.png|45px|link=User:Zai Lynch]] <small>([[User talk:Zai Lynch|talk]]|[[Special:Contributions/Zai Lynch|contribs]])</small> 18:47, 12 October 2009 (UTC)<br>
P.S: After I realized that "greets" isn't a proper way to say "sincerly yours" in a less formal way in English, I'm in the dilemma of lacking a flowery phrase to end my mails and comments :-/ ^^
: Hey Zai! I thought about "it would be better to use a navbox inside a template" too. But here's the problem: then what happens if I want to change the UNIVERSAL STYLE of all those navboxes? Or, what if I just want to include the article listing WITHOUT the box, as on [[:Category:Adult]]? Anyway, we're still in the early stages here, so if this ends up being awkward, it surely will be replaced by a better way. That's evolution.
: I'll check [[Template:KBvideo]] soon and appreciate your attention to detail.
: "Greets" or "Cheers" is cool with me... heck, invent your unique own! <font color="#ff0080">'''- [[Image:Torley-favicon.png]] [[User:Torley Linden|Torley]] on 2009-10-12 @ 11:57 AM PST'''</font>
:: I thought this through some more (nested templates demand nested logic!) and now clearly understand the [[Template:Navbox]] benefits you're pointing out to me! I also misunderstood how styles get applied, so ignore my "UNIVERSAL STYLE" question. I'm going to make your suggested ''superior'' change to the "Adult" and "Xstreet" ones shortly. Good to catch this early! <font color="#ff0080">'''- [[Image:Torley-favicon.png]] [[User:Torley Linden|Torley]] on 2009-10-12 @ 12:39 PM PST'''</font>

Clean install
When I search for "Clean Install" I'm getting redirected to an unrelated KB article. I'm having to explain to an old user that wants to step over to the new (...) viewer how to do a clean install and how to set UDP. Since HTTP and old settings prevent people from stepping over from 1.23 to the new ones. Vick Forcella
- I see that! I'll let the Documentation Team know, thanks Vick. - on 2012-07-10 @ 10:29 AM Pacific
- Send Jeremy Linden your love! He fixed the wiki redirect and mentions: "The article on how to uninstall and reinstall Second Life should be: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-Second-Life/ta-p/1375231 / The article for using SL from behind a firewall is: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Using-Second-Life-with-a-firewall/ta-p/1304539". - on 2012-07-10 @ 11:55 AM Pacific
- Thank you Torley, Thank you Jeremy. I'd like to point out the UDP article I have on my personal page. The Debug menu has to be used since the other options are not available without a log-in. At least one user has encountered that problem. Vick Forcella 12:20, 10 July 2012 (PDT)

Philip Linden/Rosedale's user page
Wondered if you know and can explain why Philip's user page has been deleted? I can't help thinking that he did play a minor part in SL's creation (Oooh! Sarcasm) and for him not to be featured on this wiki seems a little odd. Even ex-residents don't have their pages deleted. -- Fred Gandt (talk|contribs) 16:34, 23 July 2011 (PDT)

Very nice "How to search" video on the jira
- On an unrelated note. I love your latest (I think it's your latest) album "Dream Journal 2". I mean it. It's excellent. I love the fact I can leave it on repeat without any continuity errors. It goes around and around and around.....each mood flowing into the next like syrup. Awesome! -- Fred Gandt (talk|contribs) 18:34, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
- Unlike some, I hearted the H2G2 movie. Sue Linden and I have embedded the video as a thumbnail on the front page of http://jira.secondlife.com , so hopefully it's hard to miss. Let me know if there's anywhere else it deserves to be shown in a big way.

Hi Torley. I wonder if you might review the continuing argument over the content of Second Life Railroad and (most if not all) related pages? The argument is both ugly to look at and feel (if you catch my drift). I can't see either side giving in so the ugly will probably just get uglier. Couldn't think who better than Jupiter (Bringer of Jollity) (You) to bring this to the attention of. -- Fred Gandt (talk|contribs) 02:18, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
- Me being one of the "guilty" parties there... lol. Anyway. We (Virtual railway Consortium) setup some wiki pages as neutral as possible from our point of view with the info available to us. We welcome the other party to edit the page. The only think I will stop him from doing is to discredit the VRC or it's members in public. I am trying to play nice. But man, is that ever so hard at the moment. --Stryker J 10:28, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

Thanks Torley. And yes, Holst. Love that stuff. The Planets, Mahler's Symphony No.8 and Wagner's Ring Cycle (the full 16 hours!) are 3 (top of the list) pieces I would love to see live someday. Actually I'd have to add Elgar's Enigma Variations to that list too (it would be a very long list).

- And the fun continues... grumpff... please take an other look at Talk:Second Life Railroad. I resent having my group being called "vrc/mole group". Some LDPW moles are part of the membership on a voluntary basis. That does NOT make us a Mole group. I resent even more that I am accused of "propaganda" and "victimization" of people inside and outside the VRC membership! That really makes me sick. That is typically what I am struggling with for months now. KB Article Correction
The KB article at Viewer 2 Moves incorrectly describes Clear Cache. To clear cache in Viewer 2, you use the Clear History button (same button you use for clearing browser history also clears the web and texture cache). The Reset button described, is for resetting the cache location back to the Second Life default location (though it will also clear cache if you have actually moved your cache location and are moving it back to default). Extension request
Hi, how would I go by requesting an extention to be added to the wiki, or is it even allowed? --(talk) 19:40, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
- For a name like that, you have a pretty signature. Feel free to request here — we don't get many requests and can't guarantee we'll include it, but if it could be broadly useful, it's worth knowing about. - on 2010-06-01 @ 12:47 PM Pacific
- I thought it would be simple to have this [1] to replace certain strings globally for lindens use, but lindens can get requests for it.
--(talk) 21:43, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
- Good news! As shown on Special:Version we have that installed. Did you have a string replacement request? - on 2010-06-01 @ 2:53 PM Pacific
oh wow didn't know that page was there. Also not at the moment no, but abit ago I had to edit 10+ pages to change 1 word, so thought it would be a good extension. --(talk) 22:04, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
Redirect delete?
Any chance you could delete this redirect? A few templates look at the existence of that page as evidence for whether or not the meeting happened. Also, is there anywhere else to go for these sorts of things in the future? (I was looking for a non-Linden but there doesn't seem to be any non-Linden admins... :P ) Celierra Darling 19:49, 10 May 2010 (UTC)
- Yes. Deleted. I don't know who else could really help but I've done lots of this so if you can batch up a list of these requests and add them here, or contact me via email, that'd be awesome. Thanks and good to hear from ya! - on 2010-05-10 @ 2:40 PM Pacific
- There's a Template:Delete with a connected category named Category:Suggested For Deletion, though it's not yet monitored by Lindens. Maybe you can jump in? :)

Triage was canceled again, so now this page needs deleting, Thanks --Harleen Gretzky 05:01, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
- Would it not make more sense for the records to have a simple note on triage pages (when they don't happen as planned) describing that it was a non event, rather than having an unexplained hole in the records? No particular bother to me one way or the other. -- Fred Gandt (talk|contribs) 09:04, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
- Observant point, Fred. From experience I prefer stating a non-event, too. It's more specific. Harleen, what do you think? - on 2010-05-19 @ 7:20 AM Pacific
- The problem is some pages depend on the non-existence of the page, like Bug Triage. Example - 12:00 PM (noon) PDT 2010-05-24 Hippotropolis Meeting area 2010-05-17, here the link for 2010-05-17 redirects to the 2010-05-24 page, so both links display the same page. --Harleen Gretzky 23:49, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
- I'm currently not aware of an easy way on how to mod Template:LastTriage to check for cancelled events. However, it would be fairly easy when WEB-1579 would be deployed. I spoke with Yoz a couple of days ago and he said he'd consider it and relay it for a security check. It might get live in about a month or two... Maybe faster, when someone else could make a code review as well (it's a custom extension). -- (talk|contribs) 02:22, 20 May 2010 (UTC)

- One more that should probably go through the form thingy but since I'm trying to fix the localized versions:
- In Linden Lab Official:Buying land in the Land Store there's a link to Homestead in #4, that's actually linking to the void sim article. I think it should go to Linden Lab Official:About Homesteads.

- I'll take this too. Letting me know of quickies here is just fine, saves time for both of us. If you notice a whole bunch of stuff, you know what to do with sending a batch! I prefer those because I can work intensely on related items in a list.
- And I just added a sig image link because I noticed you did yours! - on 2009-11-18 @ 3:33 PM Pacific
- Hehe ^_^ you should try to toy around with that signature setting in preferences, tho it doesn't like templates, unfortunatly :-/
- It substitutes templates with the underlaying code. That can be changed in the MediaWiki settings but is switched on by default since there is some policy in the English Wikipedia about templates in signatures.
- At batches: Ah okies :-) will try to sum up fixes before submitting :-)

- Speaking of regions... I'm looking at the math used at Linden_Lab_Official:Homestead_FAQ#What's the policy for converting up an Openspace region to a Homestead region, a Homestead region to a Full region, or an Openspace region to a Full region? and it appears that if I convert 3 homestead regions into a single full region, LL would owe me $25
($1000 - ($375 + $375 + $375 ) + $100 = -$25
. This can't be correct... can it? -- Strife (talk|contribs) 22:08, 20 November 2009 (UTC)

Inworld policy on bots
Hi Torley, I´m translating this article (CT-538) and in the section "How will this be enforced" it says "This time next week we will begin to routinely look at the Search results and where we find clear use of Bots to gain an unfair Search advantage we will be handling it as an abuse issue." Now I´m wondering if I should translate it like "We have begun to routinely..." or if I should just leave it as is as it is citing from the blog... --Torben Trautman 18:11, 2 November 2009 (UTC)
Also I was wondering about this part: "Going forward we are going to look at ways to allow you to voluntarily identify to us that an account is a Bot, so that we can remove it from Traffic completely." I guess I´ll just leave everything as is and we update the article once it´s up to date? --Torben Trautman 18:24, 2 November 2009 (UTC)
- Hey Torben! I haven't personally checked the specific status of what's happening with bot enforcement, but yes, it's generally best to word things in present tense to bring them up-to-date. - Torley on 2009-11-02 @ 10:51 AM PST

Torley, I was wondering why my status as a reviewer was removed? Not sure if this is related to what happened earlier today but any insight either from you or Alexa would be appreciated. GW (T|C) -- 01:41, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

2 weird articles
Heyas! Me again :-)
Just stumbled about these two articles which feature the exact same content and which titles are wacko o.O. Can you fix?
-- (talk|contribs) 17:31, 14 October 2009 (UTC)
- Oh yeah! Keep adding any more you find right here, I'll be refreshing my talk page later after I get through your first (email) list... THANXARAMA. - Torley on 2009-10-14 @ 10:35 AM PST
- OK, am done Fixing all micro formatting flaws (that I could find) in main namespace KB articles.
- Not much but here's what I found, noted and didn't correct on my own but here's what I remember right now:
- What is an avatar key? is same as What is a UUID?. Should be "an" UUID anyway, or?
- Three images in Tips and Tricks: Better Building with Primfficiency! aren't working (weren't working in Parature either).
- Also, the Style Guide mentions that the first appearance of trademarked terms should have their related trademark symbols. Template:Seal contains the terms "Second Life" and "Linden Lab". Would be clever to add ® there, then we won't have to manually fix it in each article for the actual content.
- Maybe a link to the Community Translation Project would be a good idea in there. We're having no obvious link where people are encouraged to translate articles (would be of great benefit for the CT Project.
- (talk|contribs) 18:28, 14 October 2009 (UTC)
- What a journey it's been! Fixed those and added notes where necessary. "Would be clever..." is VERY CLEVER INDEED! I'll let the list know (for this and other localization tasks that are related to KB work but not in the Doc Team's direct responsibilities). Also, I want to promote CTP more but need to get Noelle & Team's approval. So let's wait on them. - Torley on 2009-10-14 @ 4:01 PM PST
- Heyas :-)
- Yeah, was an awesome editing rampage you had there! It pushed you up to #3 ^_^
- Alerted by an edit of JamesG Comsys, I noticed that there are three articles currently linking to a non-existend Concierge Support contact information article. These are:
- I guess Concierge Support contact information might be one of the articles that should still be in Parature, since LL only makes these available to people with the right account status. So the blank Wiki article would best be removed and the LLO article links updated to point back to parature.
- -- (talk|contribs) 17:06, 19 October 2009 (UTC)
- Good gosh, I can't have anyone thinking I'm slacking off here. ;) Thanx re: those Concierge articles, my able colleagues are inspecting that now. - Torley on 2009-10-19 @ 10:10 AM PST
Templates
Heyas :-)
To remarks about templates. One is related to the Template:Navbox subpages. I think, rather than using templates inside a navbox, it would be better to use a navbox inside a template. The advantages are: More freedom to change the appearance and less to type when you want to include it in an article.
So instead of
{{Navbox |title={{Navbox/Adult-title}} |content={{Navbox/Adult}} }}
You'd create one Template:Adult Navbox and then use a {{Navbox|title=something|content=something else}} inside of it. You'd just have to add {{Adult Navbox}} to articles (looks cleaner) and you can style changes in the Adult Navbox without having to change the Navbox template (or all articles using it).
Another thing: some tags don't like wikicode as an argument. They don't interpret it as wikicode. <videoflash>, <lsl> and <pre> belong to these. They need to be treated with a {{#tag|parameter|argument1=value1|argument2=value2}} kind of setup, see the one on the bottom here. I changed it for Template:KBvideo.
cu :-) -- (talk|contribs) 18:47, 12 October 2009 (UTC)
P.S: After I realized that "greets" isn't a proper way to say "sincerly yours" in a less formal way in English, I'm in the dilemma of lacking a flowery phrase to end my mails and comments :-/ ^^
- Hey Zai! I thought about "it would be better to use a navbox inside a template" too. But here's the problem: then what happens if I want to change the UNIVERSAL STYLE of all those navboxes? Or, what if I just want to include the article listing WITHOUT the box, as on Category:Adult? Anyway, we're still in the early stages here, so if this ends up being awkward, it surely will be replaced by a better way. That's evolution.
- I'll check Template:KBvideo soon and appreciate your attention to detail.
- "Greets" or "Cheers" is cool with me... heck, invent your unique own! - Torley on 2009-10-12 @ 11:57 AM PST
- I thought this through some more (nested templates demand nested logic!) and now clearly understand the Template:Navbox benefits you're pointing out to me! I also misunderstood how styles get applied, so ignore my "UNIVERSAL STYLE" question. I'm going to make your suggested superior change to the "Adult" and "Xstreet" ones shortly. Good to catch this early! - Torley on 2009-10-12 @ 12:39 PM PST

Note! OptiPNG FTW! | |
A Resident has noticed you've been uploading PNG images lately. Please consider using a lossless recompression tool such as OptiPNG to reduce the file size without compromising on quality. Alternatively, consider uploading the PNG images as JPEGs! |
A vidtut on how to use OptiPNG can be viewed on Template:OptiPNG FTW!
- Please point me to any problematic images. I sometimes upload large screenshots but have them dynamically resized by MediaWiki into smaller JPGs, so the original PNG isn't shown in the page, anyway. - Torley on 2009-05-06 @ 6:00 AM PST

- I found em when I searched for ban (I'm trying to populate wiki articles with KB article links) and they showed up in the search although not related... Although they're from 2007, there were hardly people who looked at them (had 20 page views before I spread the link via twitter...). I then tried to find others by manually adding KB ID's at the end of the link but with no success so far.

Office Hours
Heyas! =)
Marv 'n I finally went the last step to fully replace the old office hour scheduling system with the new one. All current office hours are already transfered to the new system, though people who'd like to change their current OH or who'd like to schedule a new one, will need to become familiar with the new system. Doing it the old way won't have any effect on the Office Hour page anymore. The manual for the new system is stored at Template:Office Hours/Documentation. It would be great if you could give your colleagues at LL some heads-up :-)

History of Second Life
Hey hey :-)
Inspired by your culture category, I toyed around in my sandbox and came up with an article named History of Second Life. I spent quite some time to collect links for the right dates when things happened but I'm not really happy with the output yet. My rezday is in the beginning of 2007, so I missed quite much about SLs history. The article would need some ♥ from people who were around when the stuff happened. So the skeleton is online, maybe you know someone who you can poke to flesh it out :-)

ImageMapping
Heyas =)
Since I remember you sayin' you'd like the ability to use images as links, I wanted to let you know that Sue and Rob made it possible yesterday. We now got the ImageMap Extension available. So it can even link different parts of a picture to different pages. Like having multiple avatars on one picture and by clicking at an avatar, you get to that persons profile page. Or so. Here is a manual and here is an easy to use tool to create image maps. Using it that way, the extension will produce a line break before and after the image. But by placing picture and text in between <div class="imagemap-inline"></div>, it will be usable as an inline element. Just wanted to let you know :-)

Help Portal help request
Heyas! =)
Gally 'n me stumbled upon 2 problems related to the new Help Portal, where we wanted to come back to your offer to ask for help. So the one thing is, that we'd like to have a representation of the portal at the Main Page, which is Sysop-locked so we can't alter it on our own. A Template:Main Page/Help is ready for that purpose. The second thing is, that the newer VidTuts are hosted at BlipTV, while the Wiki's videoflash extension isn't supporting it by now. Marv wrote a patch to fix this issue and posted it in the Jira (WEB-761). We'd then be able to make all VidTuts look like this one =)
Can you help us out with these issues?
Greetz, Lynch (talk|contribs) 07:20, 13 August 2008 (PDT)
- Happy you asked. Thanx for continuing to excellentize our wiki. =^_^=
- I'll ask Rob and Sue Linden about this, as they're the designated masters-in-transition of the public wiki. I can make the change myself, but want to be sure to give them, and VTeam (since this is connected to Scribes contributions) and Documentation Team (obviously why!) a heads-up.
- All video tutorials continue to be uploaded to YouTube. I prefer blip.tv, and earlier asked if http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Widget could be added to this public wiki, since it appears elegant and easily-extensible. However, there may be some security concerned, so it's (internal DEV-18567) currently assigned to Yoz Linden to check out. If Marv's patch is a quicker, short-term solution that is really no-fuss, I'm for it! - Torley on 2008-08-13 @ 7:50 AM PST
- Yay, @#1: Glad you're spreadin' it! The more people becoming aware of the new portal, the more might contribute and improve it so yuss, that's good news!
- @#2:The widget extension sounds neat... As far as I understand it, it seems to enable some simplified PHP code for a special namespace and yeah, that might be a security risk (I'm not entirely sure, since I'm not a programmer). So maybe not enable it for anyone but for some you can trust? I'd think that for example Strife and Marv would be people you could give editing access to such a namespace. I don't want to step on anyones feet but I think it would improve/speed-up problem resolution in the Wiki alot. For example the requested RSS feature (WEB-590) is pending since 4 month although 3 Lindens (Amber, Lexie & Mia) voted on it as well. Since there is also a widget for that feature I'm sure it would be already implemented in case (some) Residents had editing access to such a widget namespace. So in the end, it would save work for LL (less feature request Jira's) and improve the Wiki at the same time.
- However, thx for taking care of it! :-)
- Greetz, Lynch (talk|contribs) 08:38, 14 August 2008 (PDT)
- Hello Torley ! thanks a lot for your interest on this projet ! I share Zai's point of view, the more people will be involved, the better the portal will be :)
- About the videoflash I have finally used youtube codes, I will update them with bliptv codes when they are supported by the wiki. (Almost) All your vidtuts are now available here : Category:Video Tutorials :))
- Gally Young 10:47, 14 August 2008 (PDT)
- PS: I have just noticed you added the portal on the main page! THANKS A LOT ! :)))
RE: twitter
I have a patch for Extension:VideoFlash- which is used for embedding the YouTube vidtuts in the wiki (I've left a note on the author's talk page about the patch)- the patch adds support for blip.tv videos to the extension. The blip.tv flash player includes "episode navigation", so rather than including a link to each individual episode, the article could be cleaned up by just displaying the latest clip in each volume.

re:Wacom Intuos3 6x8
How much does it cost to get one of these ?
I'm stuck with a rather cheap-ass graphics tablet at the moment- this is the second one of the same model I've had, due to problems with the first generation model being even more cheap-ass than this one. But as you've seen it still plays nice with ArtRage 2 :-)
SignpostMarv Martin 08:04, 29 January 2007 (PST)
P.S. I'm suspecting you might've got it cheaper from elsewhere, since manufacturers tend to list padded prices.
- Mine was 'round CAD$350 and I got it from NCIX. Wacom seems to have quite the hold on graphics tablets — I appreciate their elegance but also wish there was more diversity. I wonder what other alternatives are more affordable but... not cheap in the quality-lacking sense.
- --Torley Linden 12:56, 30 January 2007 (PST)
- Mine cost GBP£25.
- It works, but the graphics pen is rather fragile, and breaks easily. The coating on the pen tends to rub off, and the coating on the first edition of the tablet itself suffered from the same issue.

A clever soul suggested (by forum PM) an official FAQ on SL and Vista. Said I would pass it along. I did sticky a thread in the RA forum though. In retrospect might have been better to PM; opps. Strife Onizuka 21:03, 31 January 2007 (PST)

Are you..
Are you gay? 'cos i see all the pink on your userpage and I just turn all warm and fuzzy inside.. --Felixe Thorne 11:40, 8 February 2008 (PST)
I'm definitely gay in a happy way. But don't forget the green and black, and sometimes yellow. ;) But srsly, in First Life I'm committed to a lovely lady.--Torley
LLQuaternion
I know you don't deal with this, but I don't know who to bug.
Could you possibly ask whoever deals with the Second Life Protocol to update this page to reflect how an LLQuaternion is represented now. When the client sends an "AgentUpdate" request, it sends 12 bytes not 16, as an LLQuaternion should be. Thanks, --Felixe Thorne 11:56, 8 February 2008 (PST)
I'd suggest asking on SLDev. :)--Torley
*cough*
He's back as Special:Contributions/Jumpman_Landau (changes to User:Jumpman_Lane). You even made his enemies list. I think though I'll remain incognito on this one. -- Burnt Page 00:14, 13 May 2008 (PDT)
- Thanks for the heads-up! Vandalizing the wiki and using it to air personal grievances is, of course, inappropriate. I'll let our GTeam and Rob Linden know. - Torley on 2008-05-15 @ 8:45 AM PST

I'm wondering if this change was intentional.

- it's in the release notes and everything. We are on E-Zee-Street with this prim windfall! --Cerise Sorbet 11:12, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
Fix linking of >255 prim objects. Linking should work for 256 prims, fail for >256 prims. (Previously failed to link 1 prim to a 255-prim linkset.)
- Hay thanks for the heads-up! Appreciate the update. - Torley on 2009-04-17 @ 9:52 AM PST
- Since it's in the release notes, I'll insert foot in mouth. -- Strife (talk|contribs) 18:43, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
Decentralized Moderation
I got a PM on the forums with this link. Looks very interesting. http://scobleizer.com/2009/04/20/decentralized-moderation-is-the-chat-room-savior/ -- Strife (talk|contribs) 14:50, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
I'm sorry...
... to drag you back into the problem that is the forums but this requires action. I don't know where the line is for TOS 4.1.iv but it has been crossed and the TOS shat on. I have split the offending posts from the parent thread. Here is a thread containing my incoming PM record from the last two weeks: [2]. Here are the threads where I dumped the offending posts: [3] [4]. Be advised you might be sick after viewing... or just downright angry at the LL's forum mod for being asleep at the switch. -- Strife (talk|contribs) 14:11, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for continuing to care — you already reported this and so did the complainant? I'll ask our RESI Team gurus what to do, we've recently been improving policy re: inworld abuse and the blogs, and the forums came up in discussion too. - Torley on 2009-04-23 @ 7:40 AM PST
- I haven't checked my email but I've heard anecdotally that ARs were filed. I believe it. I'm told (by one of the suppose alts) they are an acquired taste. It's folks like this who make people loose faith in the AR system. Thanks for prodding the appropriate folks about this. I really didn't want to have to do this. :-/ -- Strife (talk|contribs) 22:36, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
